A Message from the Principal I am proud to be living the Warhawk way. Because our school spirit is second to none, we have been invited by the mayor of Seminole to be ambassadors for the great City of Seminole’s 50th Anniversary Celebration this year. Our senior class, student government, and athletic student leaders are cultivating a culture of positive vibes and school-wide team spirit! The Warhawk Nation has experienced a surge in attendance and boast capacity crowds at athletic events, Arts-based events, clubs and community events. This Warhawk pride has expanded throughout the community with our new tradition of sponsoring a multi-generational family drive-in movie event each month. As our last event we had 60+ cars in attendance. We just had our annual “Taste of Seminole” event where over 30 restaurants, and local chefs transformed the Warhawk Gym into a fantastic culinary experience for all. In a few short months the dedicated alumni of Seminole high School will be staging the World’s Largest Alumni Event, in tandem with the city of Seminole and Seminole Parks and Rec. They are going for a world record! Our Warhawk Marching Band sponsored the 43rd Annual Seminole Sound Spectacular a few weeks ago, with bands attending from all over the southeast! SHS received the “Golden School Award” for 20192020 from the Department of Education for leadership in school volunteerism. Seminole High School, in competition with major corporations and adult nominees, were the recipients of the GTE Financial Community Partner of the Year Award! We won our Homecoming Game and had an amazing Homecoming Dance in September Athletically, the Seminole Warhawk Nation has experienced an amazing 2019-2020 season so far. The Girls’ Soccer Team was a part of the Sweet 16; our Baseball Team were Elite Eight Finalists; and the Boys’ Soccer Team were in the Final Four for the State I And just a few weeks ago, the Warhawk Boys’ 200 Freestyle relay team shattered an SHS and PCAC record by 3 seconds. Each one of our Visual and Performing Arts groups qualified and performed at state level competition, excelling in every genre’ - vocal, instrumental, orchestral, visual, and theatrical. Our color guard achieved World Guard International Finalist status. The visual arts students presented their work at Carnegie Hall. Our Warhawk Marching Band is #1 in their class for the state of Florida. Seminole High School’s partnerships with the Dali Museum, the Florida Orchestra, and the Straz Center for Performing Arts remains strong. Seminole High School is 1 of only 8 schools in the nation designated as a Model School of Excellence for 2019, by the International Conference for Leadership and Education. This honor is due to Seminole High’s mission and success in getting students connected, while achieving, and sustaining academic, social, and emotional success. We are the only Pinellas County School to broadcast live all stadium and gymnasium athletic events through a Pixellot technology partnership, aligned with the Seminole Sports

A Message from the Principal continues... Career Institute Academy. This broadcast and print journalism coverage and commentary is presented by students, in tandem with professional mentors. At every football game students from the sport academy will cover the game, interview coaches and host spirt events. The E-commerce Academy has been named an Academy of Distinction through 2020. The creation of, and innovative implementation of, our online school store, ‘’The Warhawk Shop,” was a student-driven effort. This innovation has streamlined virtually all financial services at our school. To date, the Warhawk Shop has sold over $388,000.00 in products like Warhawk Gear, tickets to school events, and other items. The Warhawk shop is student led with students fully managing the store! The Warhawk Shop Plus was born out of a need for our community to have access to the Warhawk Shop in a “brick and mortar’’ format. Another innovative idea that resulted from students’ voice and choice came “Wally’s Food Joint.” Students had to face many obstacles to make Wally Food Joint a reality. They persevered because it’s what they felt our students needed to improve safety, academic well-being, and attendance. Students met with local vendors/chefs and conducted taste tests, met strict food and nutrition standards to start Wally’s, as a result of their hard work and effort Wally’s Food Joint has 3 local restaurants and chefs providing tasty and nutritional options for students! A win-win! Because of the students and teachers amazing vision and success, the Ecommerce Academy at Seminole High School received the “Florida Association for Career and Technical Education’s INNOVATION AWARD!” And this Academy has been asked to present to the Florida School Boards Association in December! Our CEL, students continue to “lunch bunch” with Bauder Elementary students to encourage 4th and 5th graders to attend school every day with a focus on literacy. They also mentor and work 1 to 1 with Bauder Elementary students in their literacy circles to infuse the love and importance of reading. As a part of CEL Students volunteer at Ronald McDonald House and conduct positive projects throughout our school and community. CEL has opened the door to Educational pathways and scholarship opportunities with SPC and USF. Over the past 2 and a half years our CEL students have earned over 1. 75 MILLION dollars in Scholarships. Academically at Seminole High School, we have over 10 National and International Honor Societies. In 2019 we had a National Merit Finalist in graduate Julia Doyle. Chase Wiley is a senior who earned a perfect score on his US History EOC this past Spring. And we were just notified Amanda Kelly received a Letter of Commendation from the National Merit Scholarship Program. Seminole High School overall has demonstrated unprecedented academic growth and gains in learning this year, particularly in the areas of Science and English. Our overall graduation rate continues to soar in the high 95th percentile, and our African-American Graduation rate is 100% for the 5th year in a row I To live your life with purpose, respect, and grit is the “Warhawk Way.” We, as the Warhawk nation, claim this vision with a relentless team spirit.

The students took 2nd place in the competition. Additionally, the students received an honorable mention for placing in their first ever AWWA competition.
Thanks for your Generosity!
Seminole HS and the English Department would like to thank Slyce Pizza Bar for their generosity. Because of their donations, our 1st reading incentives almost doubled our initial projections, and tripled from last year’s gains. Our students are reading more and doing it with mastery comprehension. Please, families and community support local businesses who support our school, like Slyce Pizza Bar at Indian Rocks. Thank you so much Slyce Pizza Bar; because of you, we broke records within our school and throughout the district.

AVID has helped me improve my organization skills and provided academic support from my class mates and teacher, Mrs. Martin. My organization skills were improved when I started using a binder to keep track of my class work and an agenda that allowed me to note down important dates. AVID also benefited me by providing support from other class mates in the same class. I enjoy having a period where I can talk to my classmates, discuss classes we share, and collaborate if I’m struggling or studying for a test. AVID has helped me become college ready. Steve Morales, AVID student
On Thursday, October 24th, administration announced a new way of rewarding students: The new currency, called Lucas Loot, will be exchangeable all throughout the school by the end of the year. Administration wanted to award the students doing the right thing and inspire other students to jump on the Warhawk Way bandwagon. Students with principal’s list, honor roll, perfect attendance and no referrals will be given Lucas Loot. “We feel this momentum building where our campus looks better, people are being nicer to one another [and] more kids are on time and in classes. We thought, WOW, we shouldn’t just take that for granted. We need to reward it with some cold hard cash, some Seminole gear [and] huge prizes,” Principal Lucas said. “We don’t want to just do something like, ‘hey, here’s a lollipop’, you know? We want to do something that really resonates with you guys and ladies.” The only confirmed use of Lucas Loot at the moment is at the coffee cart; however, the hope is to introduce “things that are offered in the Warhawk Shop, and online, Warhawk Shop Plus, and in the Pop-Up shop we see at places... we’ll be pulling from their inventory,” Lucas said. “We’re working being able to use the Lucas loot to buy football game tickets or basketball is coming up, or different plays.” Jade Bergamini Hawk Talk Features Editor
