From Your Principal, Dean Ledford
Hello Senators!!! I am very excited for the 2019-2020 school year. We were able to accomplish all of our goals during the 18/19 school year. Fletcher High School gained 63 points and maintained moved to an “A” School. We showed increases in all 10 categories including maintaining our 97% graduation rate. Some of the highlights included double digit gains in Overall and Bottom Quartile Learning Gains in Reading. We contribute this success to the collaboration among our faculty, parents, and community members. Continuing this trend can make the 2019/2020 school year Fletcher’s greatest year ever. Our Senators have already begun accomplishing great things this school year. The Fletcher Girls and Boys Swim/Dive Team both won 1st place at the Gateway Conference Championship Meet on Saturday, Oct. 12. Individual and Relay winners include, Molly McCarthy - 100 Freestyle, Sam Florey - 100 Breast Stroke, Drew Salls - 50 Free and 100 Free, Boys 200 free relay (Drew Salls, Sam Florey, Ethan Runyan, and Chance Conde) and Boys 400 Free Relay (Drew Turrentine, Sam Florey, Chance Conde, Drew Salls). Bradley Ashmore was named 1010XL Scholar-Athlete of the Week. Our Volleyball Team was the Gateway Conference Championship for the 5th year in a row. And finally our Boys Golf Team finished 1st in the Gateway Conference Tournament. We are determined to improve student performance by providing educational excellence in every classroom, for every student, every day. This goal cannot happen without your help. Our communication this year will be through parent emails, parent phone links, and through our school’s website. Please go online and register for our parent portal. You can find registration information on the Duval County Website. You are our frontline in your student’s education. Our Fletcher High School PTSA, who earned Best PTSA among High Schools in Duval County, is doing a terrific job of providing volunteers for the school when we need them. They assisted with our student orientation, preplanning and opening of school this past month. These volunteers are wonderful assets for our school. We will always welcome volunteers. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, please contact Ms. Angela Stcherbinine at extension 1030. As we move towards the end of our 1st semester, please ensure your student is taking advantage of our after school tutoring program. The schedule is located in the Fletcher Files. We will be giving progress monitoring assessments throughout the year. These assessments will be used by teachers to assess student progress and drive their lessons for the 2nd Semester. Again we want to thank each of you for your support, and we look forward to making the 2019- 2020 school year our best yet. Please feel free to contact the school at any time. You can reach me at email@example.com. Thanks for all that you do…and as always….Go Senators!

SCHOLARSHIPS Many scholarships are offered directly from the colleges to which you are applying. The FAFSA (opens October 1st, 2019) should be filled out by ALL seniors. Beware of scholarship scams! You should NEVER have to pay for scholarship information. Financial Aid web resources: www.fastweb.com www.studentaid.ed.gov www.nationalservice.gov www.students.gov www.va.gov www.scholarships.com UNDERCLASSMEN (9TH – 11TH) REMEMBER: • Schedule changes have been completed for the first semester. You should not be in any classes you have already passed and received credit for in high school. • Every grade you make in grades 9-11 will be what appears on your initial transcript that colleges see when you are applying for college your senior year! So, keep in mind that EVERY GRADE MATTERS! • Bright Futures – Your academic classes, including world language, grades 9-12, are what will determine your GPA for Bright Futures Scholarship eligibility. This is one of the scholarships for which you don’t have to compete against other students – you earn it – you get it! • Juniors can sign up for college seminars in Guidance when they are announced. continued
