Each workshop participant (ages 5 to 16) will have the chance to play a lead role in the show, as well as be part of a “tech team” – either sets, props, costumes, sound or lighting and special effects. We will learn about theatre craft, both on and off the stage, and put it all together by going on tour for three days in our own private bus! We will travel to local schools (maybe even yours!) and perform our show for local youths, then do a final evening performance for family and friends.

Music Theory Class

Understanding music theory means knowing the language of music. To this end, we will be studying exciting concepts such as keys, intervals, chords, major and minor scales, rhythm, transposition and musical analysis. All this may sound rather daunting, but it's quite fun, and gives you a whole new appreciation for what music is and how it works.

Eva Perringer

The class will cover all requirements for both the RCM "Basic Rudiments" and the RCM "Intermediate Rudiments" exams. All ages are welcome, including adults!

Class: Thursdays from 6:35—7:30 pm , January 16—May 8 at St. Paul’s United Church, Perth Optional RCM exam: Saturday, May 10

The new “Academy for Musical Theatre After 17 successful years of PAMT in Perth, it is time for us to expand, and share the beauty of what we have all created at PAMT with the rest of the world. It is also time to create more viable careers in the arts in Canada, and encourage our arts-talented youth to pursue careers in their field. To this end, I have decided to open our second branch (of what may be, if all goes well, many more in future) of the newly renamed "Academy for Musical Theatre" in Ottawa, at the prestigious and beautiful Gladstone Theatre (former home of the Great Canadian Theatre Company). We will be running seven weeks of programs (through July and August) at the Gladstone this summer, as well as eight weeks of programs in Perth at our exciting new location, the Full Circle Theatre on Craig Street, with our excellently trained and professional staff who have been with us over the years.

Les Misérables comes to Perth Seen by nearly 65 million people worldwide in 42 countries and in 22 languages, Les Misèrables is undisputedly one of the world's most popular musicals ever written. And now, local theatre-goers have a chance to see for themselves what all the fuss is about, as a highly talented group of actor/singers and musicians (including several PAMT alumni) present a powerful and intimate version of this amazing show at Code’s Mill in Perth. Based on the widely acclaimed 19th century novel by Victor Hugo, Les Misèrables tells the story of Jean Valjean, and his quest for redemption after serving 19 years in jail for stealing a loaf of bread, who breaks parole to start a new life, but is relentlessly chased by a police inspector Javert. It depicts the life of the poor in early 19th-century Paris, and the revolutionary spirit that existed amongst the students and working class who were frustrated by the inequalities and cruelties perpetuated by the ruling class and the rich. Set during the Paris rebellion of 1832, the play climaxes during an epic battle between revolutionary students and the army. It is also a story about the great themes of justice, charity, redemption, mercy, and love. Performances of Les Misèrables will take place at Code’s Mill on the Park, located at 17 Wilson St. E. in Perth, on February 6, 7, 8, 13, 14, and 15 at 8 p.m., and February 9, and 16 at 2 p.m. Ticket prices range from $24 for a single reserved seat to $160 for a table of 8, and all seats are $15 on opening night (plus HST and ticket vendor fees). Tickets are available through Tickets Please (in Jo’s Clothes at 39 Foster St.), by calling 485-6434, or by visiting www.ticketsplease.ca.
