JOY in our hearts JOY in our lives JOY in our city

I’ll never forget giving Bethany a gift for the first time. I was sweating buckets. Why? I don’t know the science behind it but I know how nervous I was. What if she didn’t like it? What if she thought it wasn’t a good idea? What if . . . (this or that) ? She always wanted what I got her. She needed what I gave her. So she opened the gift and . . . she was filled with so much joy! She didn’t expect it and isn’t there so much joy from seeing someone open their gift? Especially if you thought it out carefully. Or you heard the person hoping that it to be. Or the sacrifice you made but you knew it would bring them so much joy! Our series, Joy To The World, is about the joy that God gave to the world. He has witness our great joy of opening the greatest gift in His Son, Jesus. He thought it out carefully and in His perfect timing. When the news broke, there was a great JOY! The sacrifice that God would make, began to be a reality. (Luke 1:14; Luke 2:10-11; Acts 2:22-28; Revelations 13:8; Ephesians 1) John 3:16 (ESV), 16 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have eternal life.” God’s great love was personified. He walked on the very same earth that we are on now. He loves us now on that very same earth. From the first time, we realized His grace, we were filled with JOY! He continues to provide joy in our lives! May this Christmas be one of JOY! May JOY be shared from the JOY that’s in our hearts and lives! As we give towards sharing and proclaiming our God’s love for our community. There will be opportunities for you to participate in that great JOY. (Psalm 4:5-8; Acts 20:35; 2 Cor 9:7) Discover the JOY of giving! Merry Christmas from the Mejias!

STEP 4 COURAGE In Step 4 we made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves. This means we take an honest look at ourselves so therefore this takes courage. Neh. 9: 1-3 ‘Now on the twentyforth day of this month the children of Israel were assembled with fasting, in sackcloth and with dust on their heads. Then those of Israelite lineage separated themselves from all foreigners; and they stood and confessed their sins and the iniquities of their fathers. And they stood up in their place and read from the book of the Law of the Lord their God for one-fourth of the day; and for another fourth they confessed and worshiped the Lord their God. As we make our moral inventory, we will probably find ourselves listing our destructive habits, our defects of character, the wrongs we have done, the consequences of wrong choices that we now live with, and the hurts we have caused others. It’s like sifting through all the garbage in our past. This is painful, but it is a necessary part of throwing away those rotten habits and behaviors that, if not dealt with, will almost certainly spoil the rest of our life. There have probably been times when we have ignored our own sins and problems and pointed a finger at someone else. We may be out of touch with our internal affairs because we are still blaming others for our moral choices. Or perhaps we avoid self-examination by making moral inventories of the people around us. When God asked Adam and Eve about their sin, they each pointed a finger at someone else. “Have you eaten the fruit I commanded you not to eat?” “Yes”, “Adam admitted, it was theChoices woman youoffers gave me who brought me our the fruit, and hang-ups, I ate it.” “The Life's but Healing freedom from hurts, serpent tricked me, she replied” (Gen. 3: 11-13). It seems to be human nature to blame others and through eight healing choices that promise true happiness as our first line habits of defense.

and life transformation.

We also may avoid our own problems by evaluating and criticizing others. Jesus tells us, “And why worry about a speck in your friend’s eye when you have a log in your own?”…Hypocrite! First get rid of the log from your own eye; then perhaps you will see well enough to deal with the speck in your friend’s eye.” Mat. 7: 3, 5. While doing this step, we must constantly remember that this is a season of self examination. We must guard against blaming and examining the lives of others. There will be time in the future for helping others after we have taken responsibility for our own life.
