MARCH

JOY in our hearts JOY in our lives JOY in our city

HAPPY BIBLE APPRECIATION MONTH!

Yes, March is Bible Appreciation Month. But shouldn’t we appreciate the Bible every day? Do you try to appreciate your friends and family every day and on Thanksgiving? Do you try to appreciate your spouse everyday and on Valentine’s Day? Do you try to appreciate Jesus coming, dying and raising from the dead everyday and during the Christmas and Easter seasons? We really should! Just like Paul the apostle appreciating others and praying for them in 1 Thessalonians 1:2. I appreciate the Bible! My wife, girlfriend at the time gave me my first Bible. I opened up the first page and it said, Psalm 119:105 (ESV), “Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” I did not know how true that would be. I began to really dig deep into His Word. While reading the Bible, I came across a scripture and God stopped me and spoke to my heart saying, this is your life verse - Acts 17:28 (ESV), “28a for “‘In Him we live and move and have our being’;’”. I hold tight to the goodness of God that I witness in my life and what I read of Him in scripture (Luke 11:28). I am amazed how His Word is so deep and rich (Romans 11:33). The Word of God has transformed me and continues to blow my mind on a daily basis (Hebrews 4:12; Proverbs 30:5). My wife and I go back and forth about scriptures and how to apply them individually, together and corporately as a church. We don’t really like the same things but we both love the Bible. We appreciate each other more when we appreciate God’s Word. We live better (Ephesians 4:2). We love better (John 15:12). We are better (1 Peter 4:8). She heard this once and quotes it as often as she can, “There’s nothing more attractive than a man who is Biblically active.” We laugh but God’s Word has kept us together, close and growing strong and healthy. His Word can do that for you too. This month, Bible Appreciate Month, why don’t we pause and appreciate what God’s Word has done for us. Or maybe it’s about dusting off that Bible and reading it more. Try memorizing a verse or two. Focus on one and live it out. Let’s appreciate God’s Word individually, together and corporately. Biblically active, Tony Mejia Fun Facts: The longest chapter if the Bible is Psalm 119 with 176 verses. The shortest chapter is Psalm 117 with only 2 verses. Incidentally, the middle chapter of the Bible is Psalm 118. also Psalm 117. The longest book of the Bible is Psalms with 150 chapters, or psalms. It contains 43,743 words. The shortest book is 3 John with only 1 chapter and 299 words. The longest verse in the Bible is Esther 8:9 with 90 words. The shortest verse is John 11:35 with only 2 words, “Jesus wept.”

Kathleen Holt Community is very important to Kathleen. She has lived through loss, depression, and the up and downs of life. When asked how she was able to get to the other side, she said “Jesus and her church community”. Being with women who surrounded her with prayer. We had been collectively praying as a church for families to come in, and Kathleen and her family were one of the first fruits of those prayers. Kathleen serves Jesus with a humble heart and is the Chairwoman of the board. She has also served as our treasurer for about 6 years. She wasn’t looking for ministry when she came to ALCC with her husband Rob and kids (Maribeth and Jayden), but God gives us skills/talents/gifts to be used or they will dry up. There is a depth of intercession prayer/discernment that Kathleen has. We as church are the recipients of her time spent with God praying for her church family (YOU) and whatever He lays on her heart.

STEP 9: SELF DISCIPLINE We made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others. Some of us become so focused on our personal failures in recovery that we don’t deal with the pain we have suffered at the hands of others. Some of us, on the other hand, focus too much on the ways we have been mistreated and use these as excuses for our behavior. Either approach to past abuse leaves us with emotional baggage that will hinder our progress in recovery. Forgiving others is an important part of turning our will over to God. Jesus taught his disciples: “Pray like this: Our Father in heaven, may your name be honored. May your kingdom come soon. May your will be done here on earth, just as it is in heaven. Give us our food for today, and forgive those who have sinned against us. And don’t let us yield to temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will forgive you. But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not forgive your sins.” (Matthew 6: 9-15). Being forgiven for the wrongs we have done to others does not excuse us from our actions or make our actions right. When we forgive others of the wrongs they have committed against us, we do not excuse what they have done. We simply recognize that we have been hurt unjustly and turn the matter over to God. This helps us face the truth about our own pain. It also rids us of any excuse to continue our compulsive behavior because of what has been done to us. Come and join us on Thursday evening @ 7:00 p.m. to begin the process of experiencing freedom from the hurts, habits and hang-ups from your past.
