I went to East Park with youth and children. We were all excited and the main goal was to go down “The Bullet”. It’s the park’s “famous 55’ high slide”. Last time that I went, I didn’t do it. This time, I had everyone encouraging me. I witnessed children half my age enjoying the thrill of the slide. I climbed those stairs with confidence that I was going to do this time! Then, one of the youth told me that he was nervous too (Thanks, kid . . .). He told me that he never has been able to do it and I told him that we’d do it together. We got to the top and took a deep breath. Then I looked down and let the other 13 year olds to pass me in line. At this point, I had our youth and children chanting my name at the bottom of the slide. The pressure was on. Then I saw the youth who was nervous too, waiting for me. So I sat on the top of the slide and starting talking to the person in charge of the slide. I started asking questions like, “Has anyone ever got hurt? Died? Can you fall off?” I wasn’t doing myself any favours. The person in charge just said to keep my arms crossed and stay laying down. I got off the slide and said I needed a second. A second turned to minutes and the chants disappeared. Then I saw that youth again. I laid down and asked them to give me a little push. And there I went. Although, I tried to slow myself down with my arms and then thought, I’m going to die and crossed my arms again. The few who were there to witness my courage, celebrated and shared it with everyone. Then I turned around and the youth who was nervous with me, went down. We enjoyed that slide a few more times! Joshua the new appointed leader of God’s people was told to be strong and courageous. He was encouraged to not be discouraged. So he speaks to the people and they had to make a choice. They chose to be courageous and said, “18 . . . Only be strong and courageous.” They went to do amazing thing and enjoyed the plans that God had for them individually and together. (Josh 1:1-18) I’ve spent too much time stopping myself from what I can do. How about you? Are you not praying the prayers that are in your heart? Are you not giving as God is asking you to? Are you not participating in what God has in store? The real question is:
What are we waiting for?
When fear comes, it’s an opportunity to be courageous. When hesitation hits, it’s an opportunity to be courageous. When procrastination halts, it’s time to be courageous. (1 Corinthians 15:58; Ephesians 6:10; 2 Timothy 1:7; Proverbs 3:5-6) There are many of us who are praying those prayers and giving with full trust in God and participating in God’s will for their lives. May be courageous as them! May we be strong and courageous as God leads us to pray, give and participate! May we have courage to enter into what God has for us - separately together! Tony Mejia

For our next upcoming series, we are doing one called "Hey God!" which is about teaching our kids about prayer! What a great thing to teach at this time. I will be posting the videos here every week! And to connect with the kids, we will be having the Zoom Calls every Sunday night from 6:00pm to 6:30pm with a different ALCC kids leader.
If there is one thing I know about teaching our kids to pray, is that they need to see us doing it! Lets fill our homes with prayer this season and teach our littles its value with this series, Hey God!
Elementary Kids: Introduce a prayer journal Pre-school Kids: Take time to pray at meals & bedtime
