How U.S. topped China

With 46 gold, 29 silver and 29 bronze, the U.S. is taking home the most hardware from London BY ALEX BORDENS | Tribune Olympic Bureau LONDON — After China dominated the 2008 Beijing Games, the U.S. has reclaimed the top position in the medal count, 17 total medals ahead of China and eight ahead in golds. In London, China held an early lead, racking up medals in gymnastics, badminton and table tennis, but the U.S. caught up after piling up the golds in swimming, track and field and tennis.
