Dear Parents and Students, This handbook presents essential information about our high school, its opportunities, and guidelines. The student handbook is a guide to rules and regulations of the High School. New Board Policy, Administrative decisions, and New York State Law may override the Handbook outline. Should this occur, communication will be made through the Principalâ€™s Office. Please become familiar with its contents. It is important that you become aware of the rights, privileges, and responsibilities of attending school, so that a positive educational environment can exist. We believe that teaching and learning are the primary purposes of school. Preparing young people to be educated, responsible and productive citizens for our community is our goal. This can only be achieved through cooperative involvement among parents, students and staff. We want to provide the best possible education at Oneida High School and therefore welcome the support and advice of parents. The opportunities for personal growth and success are here. ONEIDA HIGH SCHOOL MISSION STATEMENT WE BELIEVE The mission of Oneida High School is to provide students the opportunity to acquire the skills and knowledge necessary for the career of their choice, to become contributing members of society, and to develop a sense of self-esteem. Everyone needs to be accountable and responsible for his/her decisions and actions. Everyone needs to treat each other with respect. Communication should be open and honest. Students need to be academically challenged by courses where high expectations exist. Students need to be prepared for success beyond high school. Students need to be educated to value healthy living and lifelong learning. SEXUAL HARASSMENT OF STUDENTS Sexual harassment violates federal and state law and may subject the harasser to personal civil and/or criminal liability. In addition, it is the policy of the Oneida City School District to maintain a school environment that is free from sexual
harassment. As such, any form of sexual harassment is strictly prohibited and will result in appropriate disciplinary action. Sexual harassment includes unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors and other verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature when: 1. Submission to such conduct is made either explicitly or implicitly a term or condition of a student’s school environment; or 2. Submission to or rejection of such conduct by a student is used as the basis for decisions affecting such student’s grades, class assignments, opportunity to participate in extracurricular activities or other aspects of the student’s learning experience; or 3. Such conduct has the purpose or effect of unreasonably interfering with a student’s performance or creating an intimidating, hostile or offensive learning environment. Each supervisor and administrator shall take all reasonable efforts to ensure that sexual harassment does not occur. Suspected incidents of sexual harassment are to be reported to the administrator or supervisor. If any supervisor or administrator is aware, either by receipt of a formal or informal complaint or by observation, of any possible incident of sexual harassment, it shall be promptly investigated. Any student who feels that he or she is subject to harassment in school from a teacher, fellow student, or any other person in the school environment, should immediately report the
alleged incident to either his or her guidance counselor, building principal, A s s is tant S uperintendent or Superintendent of Schools. Reports may be made verbally and/or in writing. A sworn affidavit may be requested. All reports shall be confidential and disclosed only on a “need to know” basis consistent with the District’s obligation to investigate the report and take appropriate action. All reports shall be immediately and objectively investigated by the Administrator, Supervisor, Assistant Superintendent or Superintendent of Schools to determine the appropriate corrective action (if any) which shall be taken. Conduct found to be in violation of this policy will result in immediate and appropriate disciplinary action. Any student who believes that there has been a violation of his or her right to learn in an environment free of sexual harassment and that such violation has not been corrected through the procedure outlined above may appeal to the Board of Education. COURSE CREDIT Students may obtain credit for their courses by earning an overall passing average in each course. This average is called the "promotional average" and is determined by averaging the mid-term exam and final exam along with each report card marking period grade. Passing only the high school exam or Regents exam does not guarantee passing the course. A promotional average of 65% or higher is necessary to pass a course. EXAMPLE:

COURSE CHANGES Much work has been put into the proper development of each student's schedule prior to the beginning of the school year. The schedule is the product of a cooperative effort involving counselors, students and parents. It is therefore expected that students remain in the courses that have been selected as part of their schedule. It is believed that the decision to enroll in specific courses involves a commitment to those courses. If a student withdraws from a semester course after three weeks or from a full year course after five weeks, then a withdrawn failing (W.F.) grade will be recorded on the student's permanent record card. Schedules may be changed without penalty of a withdrawn failing (W.F.) for the following reasons: scheduling error, course needed for graduation, or academic level change. The request will be made in writing using the appropriate form. All students must be enrolled in six (6) courses/credits each
semester.* Students may not enroll in semester courses after three weeks of the semester has expired nor in full year courses after five weeks of the school year has expired. *Due to special circumstances this may be waived by the principal.
HIGH HONOR AND HONOR ROLL Each marking period, students who have earned high honor roll and honor roll recognition will have their names posted. To be recognized on the high honor roll, a student must have an academic average of 90% or better and be taking at least six (6) academic courses/credits.* Honor roll recognition is determined by an academic average of 85% to 89% and is based upon a student's academic class load of six (6) academic courses/credits.* Students with a grade of incomplete will not be considered for Honor Roll. RECEIVING CREDIT FOR FAILED COURSES A student may earn credit for a previously failed course in the following ways: 1. The student may attend summer school and pass the course. 2. The student may repeat the course for an entire school year and pass the course. 3. In courses where the Regents exam is the final exam, a student may repeat the course for only one semester, if the student has already passed the Regents exam. 3. A student may â€œtest outâ€? of a course he/she is repeating. The student must have a passing grade in the 1st and 2nd marking period, and pass an exit
exam. If a passing grade is not achieved during the 1st marking period, the student will have to repeat the entire class. COURSE CREDIT WITHOUT COURSE ENROLLMENT It is recognized on a statewide level that students may earn a maximum of 6 1/2 units of credit for either Regents or local level course study without being enrolled in those courses. (i.e. challenge a course). It is also recognized that the criteria for approval to honor such requests will differ from school to school throughout the state. At Oneida High School, the criteria for admission of such pupil requests has been determined and adopted after input was received from the faculty, department chairpersons, counselors, assistant principal, principal and superintendent. Although each department will have its own specific criteria for admission and specific requirements for credit approval, the general set of criteria which a student must first meet for qualification is as follows: 1. Written submission of the completed "Course Challenge Form" for each course requested. 2. Signed approval by the High School Principal (Course Challenge Form). 3. The requested course must be an advanced course to any that have been completed prior to the request. 4. The student must have successfully completed at least one full semester at our high school. 5. A minimum average of 90% must have been maintained in the discipline area of the request. 6. A minimum score of 85% on the final examination in the course must be earned in addition to a cumulative
passing average and successful completion of specific department requirements. 7. Standardized test scores must reflect a potential for success in the discipline as interpreted by the counselor. 8. All final examinations will be administered at normal/ routine testing calendar dates. 9. Granting of credit will be awarded by the principal after consultation with the teacher of the course, department chairperson and counselor after successful completion of all criteria is determined. EARLY GRADUATION Some students may be interested in accelerating the date of their high school graduation. Parent involvement and consent as well as approval should begin by 10th grade. Eligibility must be determined with the appropriate counselor. Applications must be completed by the student and parent/guardian, reviewed in a parent conference with the principal, and reviewed by the superintendent before approval is granted. RELEASE OF INFORMATION The Federal Student Privacy Law prohibits school districts from releasing student transcripts without the student and/or the parentâ€™s permission. Students who wish to have the school provide transcripts to colleges or employment offices must obtain the proper release form from the guidance office. In order to protect the integrity of all transcripts, only mailed transcripts will be official. All transcripts hand-carried will be marked unofficial. In addition, students and parents have a right to opt out on
the release of information to military recruiters. Parents and students will be afforded this right in a mailed form in August. The form is mailed to Juniors and Seniors. REPORT CARDS Report cards are issued to students quarterly. Any parent who wishes to have additional information regarding academic status should contact the Guidance Office at 363-6901, Option 2. SUMMER SCHOOL Summer school is through BOCES and is for remediation. For a student to be eligible to attend summer school, he/she must have met attendance requirements for the course, achieve a minimum grade of 55%, must have completed the course research paper, and must have taken the final exam. (Special circumstances may warrant administrative review.) Preference will be given to upper classmen. WEIGHTING OF GRADES Grades in Advanced Placement courses are weighted. A weighting factor of 1.06 is used with all A.P. courses. The unweighted grades will determine passing or failing of a course. The weighted grades would be used in determining class rank and grade point average. CALCULATION OF CUMULATIVE AVERAGE FOR SENIORS 1. A grade for every course will be used in calculating a student's cumulative average. 2. In a course with a Regents exam, the higher grade of the final average or the Regents exam grade may be used in determining cumulative average.
3. Average is rounded to the nearest hundredth. Cumulative average will be recalculated at the end of the first semester. Semester averages will be used for full year courses final averages will be used for one semester courses. III. STUDENT ATTENDANCE PHILOSOPHY The Board of Education, administration and staff of Oneida High School in accordance with Section 104.1 (c) of the Regulations of the Commissioner of Education, believe that regular attendance in classroom instruction is an integral part of the learning process. Insistence on good attendance serves as a clear and constant reminder of the importance of the instructional business at hand. The objectives of this policy are to ensure the maintenance of an adequate record verifying the attendance of all children, to establish a mechanism to examine patterns of pupil absence and to develop effective intervention strategies to improve school attendance. Successful implementation of this policy requires cooperation among all members of the educational community, including parents, students, teachers, administrators and all staff members. POLICY The Board of Education, administration, and staff of Oneida High School recognize that regular classroom attendance is an essential part of a successful educational program and that there is a critical relationship between academically engaged time and student performance. This belief is reinforced by research that shows a significant, positive relationship between academically engaged time and student achievement. A student that is frequently absent from class or regularly
arrives tardy to class, not only affects his/her educational success but she/he also negatively impacts the teaching/ learning climate of the classroom. Therefore: A student that has developed a poor attendance pattern and/ or is regularly tardy in arriving to school, will have an attendance "contract" cooperatively developed, by which the student and the student's parent/guardian will agree to abide. The "contract" will establish clear and individually specific guidelines and limitations in order to alter detrimental behaviors. Failure of the student to adhere to the specifics of the "contract" may result in the student being ineligible for course credit. The building principal or designee will have the responsibility for implementing student attendance contracts. Student Absences Excused Absences Students who are absent from class for any schoolsponsored or sanctioned event shall not be considered absent. This would include class or school-sponsored field trips, guidance-approved college visits, school-sanctioned sporting events, school-sponsored musical events, or course requirements that require the student to be away from school. Successful implementation of the attendance policy requires cooperation among all members of the educational community, in clu d in g p ar en ts , s tu d en ts , teach er s , administration, and support staff. Absence due to illness, health condition, family emergency or religious purposes. Unexcused Absences - Most absences not mentioned
above will be considered unexcused. B. Expectation for student attendance - Students are expected to attend scheduled classes in order to: Learn subject matter and earn good grades Develop responsible work and study habits, and Prepare for the world of work C. Parent/Guardian Responsibilities ** Under New York State Education Law Section 3205, parents are responsible for the regular attendance of their children for instruction It is the responsibility of parents to ensure that their children attend school regularly and on time. When a student is absent from school, parents must contact the school to report the absence and/or provide appropriate excuses when required (doctor's verification). Parents must provide a written explanation of the absence for their child to be turned into their homeroom teacher upon the student's return to school. Parents are required to provide their current home address, telephone number, emergency number(s), and a list of adults to contact in their absence. D. Student Responsibilities Students must attend school daily and be on time. Students must attend all classes and participate fully. Students are expected to make timely arrangements with their teachers to make up assignment and class work they have missed during their absence. E. Teacher Responsibilities ** Teachers can make a difference in the attendance habits of most of their students.** Teachers and school personnel will continually stress to students the importance of promptness and regular
attendance in all of their classes. Teachers will provide an opportunity for students to make up class work and class time as a way to receive credit for an absence. Teachers are responsible for identifying students who require alternative services and/or programs for absence or tardiness and reporting the student to the student's guidance counselor if their help is needed. Teachers will maintain and establish cooperative r elatio n s h ip s w ith p ar en ts /g u ar d ian s b y communicating attendance issues by making telephone calls home. E. Administrative Responsibilities The Principal or designee is responsible for implementing the attendance policy. The Principal or designee is responsible for identifying students who require alternative services and/or programs for absence or tardiness. The Principal or designee, based upon the referrals of teachers and the established attendance records, shall identify intervention strategies. Such strategies may include, but are to limited to: communication with the parent/guardian counseling and other support services mentoring progressive disciplinary action related community agencies services The Principal will maintain and establish cooperative relationships with other community agencies that serve families of Oneida High School students with attendance problems. Maintenance of an effective policy that encourages student attendance and is in compliance with the commissioner's regulations and rulings.
F. Intervention Teachers shall be responsible for preliminary contact with parents and students to assess absenteeism. When intervention from the teacher does not improve attendance, other appropriate staff members (e.g. the school nurse, social worker, guidance counselor, attendance officer and principal) can help devise a plan of improvement. Students have an opportunity to have absences credited when they make up work they missed due to an absence. Students must make arrangements with the teacher to make up the class work. The objective of intervention strategies is to address individual student issues of absenteeism. The list below is examples of intervention strategies that may be utilized to correct truancy problems for individual students. District Responsibilities The Superintendent shall provide each teacher with a copy of this policy after approval/amendment and provide new teachers w ith a copy upon employment. Copies of this policy shall be made available upon request to any member of the community. TARDINESS: Every student is expected to be present in class before the late bell. A student who arrives late to school must report to the Main Office. Students who are tardy will be responsible to meet with those teachers whose classes have been missed. Failure to do so may result in office detention. Only legal excuses will be accepted. LEAVING THE SCHOOL BUILDING: A STUDENT WHO MUST LEAVE SCHOOL BECAUSE OF ILLNESS MUST REPORT TO THE NURSE OR TO THE ATTENDANCE OFFICE. If a student must be excused for part of the school day, he/ she must present a written request to the Attendance Clerk upon arrival at school. The request should specify name, date, time to be excused, destination and reason for leaving,
means of travel from school, and a telephone number by which the above information may be confirmed (parent, doctor, dentist, etc.). Please make appointments, if at all possible, on school holidays or after school hours. Because of the school's legal responsibility for the welfare of students, we cannot honor requests for students to leave school to run errands during school hours. Leaving school without prior permission is considered truancy. (See page 25) EARLY DISMISSAL: Certain senior students may request to leave school early for the purpose of employment. When such a request is granted, it is to be considered a privilege, a privilege which can be terminated if deemed necessary by the principal. Such requests must be made directly to the principal in writing. The student must have proper academic proficiency and the appropriate number of credits as not to jeopardize graduation. A meeting between the parent/guardian and principal (or his designee) must occur before such a request will be honored. The parent must agree to notify the high school if and when the student's employment terminates. Students approved for an early dismissal must leave the school building and grounds immediately at the time of the early dismissal. Failure to comply with this stipulation will cause the administration to rescind the privilege. The following guidelines must also be followed: 1. A note must be submitted to the principal from the employer stating the nature of the job, the hours and the days of work. 2. Written consent from the parent. 3. Recommendation from the guidance counselor to the principal. 4. Approval of the principal.
UNEXCUSED ABSENCE CONSEQUENCES CUTTING: Unexcused absence from a class or other assigned activity will result in In School Suspension or Extended Detention and parent contact. Repeated cuts will be considered as acts of insubordination and may result in the filing of a PINS petition with the family court, out of school suspension and the possibility of a Superintendent's Hearing. TRUANCY: A student who is absent from school without the consent of a parent or guardian is considered to be truant. Truancy is assumed anytime a student is illegally absent for two or more consecutive class periods. Consequences: Repeated truancies will result in additional days of In School Suspension or Out of School Suspension, parent conferences, and the possibility of Superintendent's Hearing. NOTE: This school must be notified by the parent or guardian of all absences following lunch due to illness, or truancy will be assumed IV. SCHOOL CONDUCT AND DISCIPLINE BILL OF RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF STUDENTS Students of this district shall have the rights afforded to students under the provisions of the Federal and State constitutions and the laws of the State of New York. Building codes of conduct more specifically spell out these rights. It shall be the responsibility of the students to:
Be aware of and obey school rules and regulations. Accept responsibility for their own actions. Respect the rights of others, including the right to secure an education in an environment that is orderly and disciplined. Attend school regularly and punctually. Take advantage of the academic opportunities offered at school. Support and participate in school activities. Maintain habits of personal cleanliness. Respect school property Strive for mutually respectful relations with teachers and administrators recognizing their role as surrogate parent in matters of behavior and discipline. Contribute toward establishing and maintaining an atmosphere that generates mutual respect and dignity for all. Be informed regarding student rights and responsibilities and comply with all rules and regulations of this policy. The above bill of rights and responsibilities shall be publicized and explained to all students on an annual basis. The manner and extent of the publication shall be determined by the superintendent or his/her designee. STUDENT CONDUCT The Board of Education expects all students to conduct themselves in an appropriate and civil manner, with proper regard for the rights and welfare of other students, district personnel and other members of the school community and for the care of school facilities and equipment. The best discipline is self-imposed and students must learn to assume and accept responsibility for their own behavior,
as well as the consequences of their misbehavior. District personnel who interact with students are expected to use disciplinary action only when necessary and to place emphasis on the studentsâ€™ ability to grow in self-discipline. D EFI N I TI ON S OF I MPR OPER S TU D EN T CONDUCT Actions of Endearment: Kissing, caressing, or other overt expressions of affection. Arson: The intentional destruction or other damage by fire, explosion or smoke to real property or personal property of the school district, to personal property of other students or staff, or to personal property of third parties, while situated on school district premises. Assault: The intentional use of physical force, or the threat thereof, that places, or attempts to place, another person in well-founded fear of corporal injury. Destruction of Property: The destruction, defacing or other impairment of school property or property belonging to other person while on school premises or at school related activities. Drug/Alcohol: Being under the influence of alcohol on school premises or at school functions; selling, consuming, distribution or being in possession of alcohol or school premises (including building or grounds) or on a bus going to or from a school function or at a school function s defined by Section I(C) of the Oneida City School District Board Policy. Being under the influence of, the use, possession, sale or gift
of any drug or controlled substance or over-the-counter mood altering substance, including marijuana or any instruments for the use of such drugs, controlled substance or marijuana such as pipe, syringe or other paraphernalia, while on school premises (including building or grounds) or on a bus going to or from a school function or at a school function as defined by Section I(C) of the Oneida City School District Board Policy. Excepted is any drug taken in accordance with a current prescription signed by a physician stating it is to be taken by that particular student at the time in question.
Extortion: Any intentional action which reasonably instills fear in another individual in order to obtain something to which you are not entitled. False Alarm: The intentional or grossly negligent activation of a fire alarm when no threat of fire exists, or the initiation, instigation or communication to the District or any of its employees of any other claim of fire or threat thereof when none exists. Fighting: Combative physical contact, or other violent encounter, between two or more persons. Forgery: To reproduce something for deceitful purposes or unfair gain. Gambling: The risking of something of value upon the outcome of a contest of chance or a future contingent event upon an agreement or understanding that one will receive something of value in the event of a certain outcome.
Harassment: Engaging in acts of harassment or sexual harassment as defined in the districtâ€™s policies. Using in either words, clothing or signs, profane, lewd, vulgar or abusive language or words which may incite or offend another person; or constitute a health and safety hazard (including clothing that promotes the sale or use of alcohol, tobacco and/or controlled substances) or a substantial disruption or material interference with the mission, work or discipline of the school community. Insubordination: A. Failure to comply with any school rule, regulation, or policy (including those relating to attendance); or B. Failure to comply with a reasonable request from school district personnel or representatives authorized to make such a request. Loitering: Standing about and lingering on school grounds following dismissal. Morally Offensive Behavior: Using vulgar language or profanities, possessing or distributing obscene or pornographic literature, or demonstrating lewd or lascivious behavior. Reckless Endangerment: Any action that exposes others to peril or harm. Theft: The unlawful taking possession of, or control over, property belonging to the school district or another. Tobacco Possession/Paraphernalia: Possession of tobacco or any tobacco products; including but not limited to lighters, matches, rolling papers etc., anywhere within a school building or on school grounds or during school
related activities. Tobacco Use: Tobacco use anywhere within a school building or on school grounds or during school related activities. Trespass: Refuse to leave any building or facility after being requested to do so by an authorized person. Verbal Abuse: Speech or gesture which, by virtue of content and/or existing circumstances, is likely to disrupt the conduct of classes or after school activities or to undermine the maintenance of discipline within the school setting.
Weapons and Explosives: No student shall have in his or her possession upon school premises or at any school activity, any rifle, shotgun, pistol, revolver, other firearm, knife, dangerous chemical(s) or any object which is not necessary for school activities and which could be used as a weapon. This list is not meant to be all-inclusive. Any conduct not herein defined, which constitutes a violation of the statutes of the State of New York or any established rule or regulation of the Oneida City School District, shall be punishable by penalty to be imposed at the discretion of the appropriate school district personnel. TYPES OF DISCIPLINARY ACTION The goal of the disciplinary program at Oneida is to effect positive change in students' behavior. It is an attempt to modify behaviors from unacceptable to acceptable levels. Consequently, there are several forms of action that may
result from inappropriate behavior or from violating school rules, regulations or policies. These actions may include, but are not limited to the following: 1. Student Conference - Held with appropriate individuals which may include teacher, counselor, administrator, parent. 2. Parent Conference - Held with appropriate individuals which may include teacher, counselor, administrator, student. Activity Suspension - The student is suspended from attendance or participation in school sponsored activities. Student is not suspended from class or from the building. Parent notified. Detention - This is held after school. The student is obligated to attend as scheduled. If absent or excused on the day of a scheduled detention, the date of the detention is automatically changed to the next detention date. If you can not attend detention as scheduled, you must make arrangements to be excused IN ADVANCE with the assistant principal. Extended Detention Program - This is from 2:30 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. (athletic bus departure time). In-School Suspension â€“ This is held during the regular school day. The student is directed to the Supervised Study Room for part or all of the school day. Arrangements are made for the student to obtain class work, but the student is not allowed to attend classes from which he/she has been suspended. The Supervised Study Room is supervised by a teacher. It is an area of absolute quiet, restricted study. Students are not allowed to socialize with other students while in Supervised Study. 7. Out of School Suspension - The student is suspended from the building and all classes for a definite period of
time - maximum of five days per suspension. This period of time may be extended or duplicated by the superintendent. A parent conference is normally necessary for re-admittance to school. A student suspended from school may not appear or loiter on school property or at any school sponsored event at or away from school. It will be the suspended student's responsibility to make up all work missed during the suspension period. The student will have to make arrangements with the individual teacher for class work assignments, etc. Parents are to assume complete responsibility for the student during the period of suspension. Days of Out of School Suspension do not become "accumulated absences" as regards the attendance policy. 8. Superintendentâ€™s Hearing F o llo w in g a S u p er in ten d en t's H ear in g , th e superintendent may take whatever action deemed appropriate including indefinite suspension from school. 9. Long-term Suspension - The student may be suspended out of school for the balance of the semester, or the school year, subject to superintendent's decision. Parent notified. 10. Permanent Suspension - The student may be suspended out of school permanently, subject to superintendent's decision. 11. Personal Liability - The school district may pursue, on behalf of itself or an employee, all available rights and remedies to recover from the student and/or the parents of the student for damages to personal property. 12. Police Notification - In cases involving criminal conduct, school authorities will refer the matter to appropriate law enforcement authorities.
IMPROPER STUDENT CONDUCT AND RANGE OF CONSEQUENCES The following is intended to serve as a guideline to students and parents. Its purpose is to make students and parents aware of the consequences of certain actions. This list is NOT EXHAUSTIVE nor is it intended to be all inclusive. The administrators have the delegated authority to apply the discipline procedures previously listed and to deviate from the prescribed consequence for particular infractions if, in their judgment, the individual situation so warrants. Level A: These misbehaviors constitute minor infractions of school rules which cause little harm and minimal disruption. They are best handled quickly and informally. If the behaviors continue, however, their very persistence may make them disruptive enough to cause them to be treated as more serious infractions with more stringent consequences. Level B: The misbehaviors included at this level are frequent and/or serious enough to disrupt the learning climate of the school and affect the studentâ€™s own ability to learn. Some of these infractions may be a result of misbehaviors which continue even after disciplinary measures are taken under Level A. Because of the frequency and/or seriousness of these misbehaviors, the administrator assumes the major responsibility for corrective action. Level C: Classified at this level are behaviors which may cause lasting harm to the misbehaving student or which may threaten the health, safety, or emotional well being of others in the school. If the misbehaviors at this level could violate criminal laws, administrators may, if they consider it appropriate, contact law enforcement officials. In most
cases, however, these behaviors can best be remedied through disciplinary action at the school. Level D: Except for unmodified Level C behavior, the acts listed at this level are clearly criminal. They represent a direct and immediate threat to the welfare of others or may result in serious injury to the student, other people or property. In most cases, they require administrative action which immediately removes the student from school and calls for the intervention of appropriate authorities. Removal of Disruptive Students from the Classroom and School Property 1. Teacher Removal of a Disruptive Student from the Classroom Teachers have a limited authority to remove disruptive pupils from the classroom. Such removal shall be consistent with this code of conduct. Disruptive students are defined as elementary/or secondary pupils, under the age of 21, who are “substantially disruptive of the educational process or substantially interfere with the teacher’s authority over the classroom.” A disruptive pupil may be removed from a teacher’s classroom by the teacher for no more than two (2) days of instruction, including the initial date of removal, for each incident of substantial disruption of the educational process or substantial interference with a teacher’s authority.

For the purpose of this policy, a student-athlete is a student who is a member of an interscholastic team (i.e. player, cheerleader or manager). The athletic program is an important and integral part of the total educational experience of secondary students in the Oneida City School District. It is open to participation by all students who remain in good standing. We believe that it serves in the development of self -discipline, a positive work ethic, group responsibility and dedication - values that are helpful to lifelong success. Parents and guardians are expected to support the Rules and Regulations for Inter-scholastic Athletics. A copy of the policy for student-athletes is distributed to each candidate at the beginning of the each sports season. This policy is to be read by the parent and student-athlete and signed by both. School by calling 363-6901, Option 6. EXTRA CURRICULAR PARTICIPATION POLICY It is acknowledged that extra-curricular activities help to further the development of students as responsible citizens. However, it should be considered a student privilege to participate in extra-curricular activities at Oneida High School. Student participation carries with it an obligation to act in a responsible manner, since the participating student represents Oneida High School. To participate in any extracurricular activities for the day, the student must be in attendance by 9:30 a.m., unless the student is legally excused. A student who is a participating member of an extracurricular (non-credit bearing) club/organization at O.H.S., and who is found in violation of the Student Disciplinary Code (see Student Handbook) during school hours or during any school approved activity on or off of school property (athletic contests, dances, field trips, etc.) is subject to the consequences found in the Student Disciplinary Code. However, this policy may be invoked if a student's pattern of behavior displays frequent violations of the Code. Any misconduct that is in violation of the law at any time or in any location, which results in the arrest of the student participant, may be reason for further disciplinary action to be taken. The determination of use or possession of any alcoholic beverages or illegal or illicit substances may also result in further disciplinary consequences ("in possession of" shall include hosting parties where these substances are present). The school district will act at the earliest possible opportunity. A committee consisting of the advisor(s) of the extra-curricular activity/activity/activities which the student in participating in and the assistant building principal (or designee) will review the violation and determine the
consequences. Parents will be notified of the violation and the student and parents are expected to attend a meeting to discuss the alleged violation. An appeal of the decision may be made within five days to the building principal and to the deputy superintendent of schools. The consequences to the participating student may be one or all of the following: Placement on probation for a specified period of time Assignment to perform specified community service Activity suspension Removal from the extra-curricular activity This list is not exhaustive nor is it intended to be allinclusive. The committee may consider the honesty and cooperation of students when assessing the above consequences, with respect to the first infraction. STUDENT ACCIDENT INSURANCE INFORMATION All students who are injured at school MUST report the injury to the teacher, school nurse, or the office. The Oneida City School District has a low-cost accident insurance policy. Students are covered within limits from the time they get on the school bus in the morning until they depart the bus on their way home. Students who walk, ride with their parents or ride bicycles to school are NOT covered UNTIL they enter school. Athletic injuries are covered under this policy as well. However, injuries sustained through horseplay or fighting may be rejected. This policy is limited and takes over ONLY IN CASES WHERE THE FAMILY'S POLICY DOES NOT COVER ALL OF THE MEDICAL BILLS, OR IF THE FAMILY HAS NO COVERAGE. We encourage all
parents and guardians to provide additional health insurance to ensure adequate coverage. In the event of a school accident, parents will receive from either the school nurse or school secretary an accident claim form. Each school completes "Part A: School Report". The parent/guardian is responsible for completing "Part B: Statement of Parent or Guardian". If medical attention is sought, you must first get an insurance claim form from the school. It is required that this form, together with all itemized bills or notice of rejection, be sent directly to the insurance company (refer to Instructions on Part A for address) as soon as possible. Subsequent bills may be forwarded after submission of claim form. Athletes: Report to the coach immediately any injury no matter how small it may seem. After any injury requiring medical attention, the player must have written approval from the attending physician to resume practice or participate in a game. NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY Selection Procedure 1. Seniors who have an overall average of 90% or higher in all courses taken during the regular school year qualify for membership. These students will be identified by the Principal's Office. 2. The entire faculty will rate these students who are candidates in the areas of character, leadership, and service. The N.H.S. definition of these qualities will be provided to the faculty. An objective system of evaluation, which parallels the procedure suggested in the N.H.S. Handbook, will be used. 3. Final selection will be made by the O.H.S. National
Honor Society Faculty Council. 4. The Committee: a. N .H .S . A dvis or(s ) - non-voting members. b. Faculty members appointed by the Principal. 5. Oneida High School Procedure: All grades in courses taken for credit during the regular school year are used. If a student's Comprehensive Regents grade is higher than his/her average, that grade is used. If the average is higher then it is used. Students have to be a member of the school for at least one semester. All faculty members are given a list of pros pective members a lis t of requirements and explanations, and a rating sheet. 6. An index of three (3.00) is minimum for membership based on ratings of 4-3-2-1 in each category (leadership, service, and character). 7. The Faculty Council of which the advisors are non-voting members, then review the candidates for induction. COMPUTER ETHICS The purpose of the Oneida City School Districtâ€™s computer network is to support the educational activities of the classroom. All students are expected to follow the Districtâ€™s Acceptable Use Policy For Network and Internet Access: Policy 5042, the Copyrighted Material Policy 5040, as well as other related District Policies and procedures. ! Users are reminded that the use of District technology is a privilege and not a right. The District uses network security and Internet filtering tools to protect students and data from harm. Any use of District equipment or information networks for inappropriate, illegal, obscene, malicious or sexual harassment purposes is prohibited. ! Passwords are personal and should not be shared. Students should not use the passwords of others to access the computers or network data that is
not specifically intended for them. ! Students will not give personal information over the internet. ! Network storage areas are like school lockers and may be viewed by principals, teachers, network techs, or other staff as necessary. Students found to be in violation may be subject to disciplinary actions determined by the school principal or assistant principal, such consequences could be assigned, but not limited to: conference and warning, removal of network access and computer/technology privileges, detentions, ISS, OSS and police notifications for incidents that violate the law. Offenses Involving Computers: Computer Trespass: When a student knowingly uses or causes to be used a computer or computer service without authorization. The student does so with the intent to commit or attempt to commit a crime. Unauthorized Use of a Computer: A student who knowingly uses or causes to be used a computer, or computer service, without authorization or programs a computer with any device or decoding system. Computer Tampering: When a person uses or causes to be used a computer or computer service and, having no right to do so, intentionally alters in any manner or destroys computer data or a computer program of another person. Unlawful Duplication of Computer Related Materials: The unlawful, or without authorization, duplication of computer related materials when having no right to do so, copies, reproduces or duplicates materials in any manner.
Possession of Unauthorized Computer Related Material: Possession of computer related materials, when not having any right to do so, in any form, copy, reproduction or duplication, i.e. security decoding programs, key copy programs and any software and hardware not authorized for use on school computers or in the school building. Administrators reserve the right to select the appropriate consequence for the violation based on his/her investigation. Usage of Personal Notebook Computers Students wishing to use personal notebook computers on school grounds need to have prior permission from the Principal or his/her designee. Additionally, authorized and unauthorized personal notebook computers on school grounds are subject to inspection by school district
personnel. DANCES School dances are provided for the enjoyment of all OHS students. Students must show their I.D. cards in order to enter any dance. Any student who is unable to conduct himself/herself appropriately will have his/her parents notified and will be removed from the dance. Additionally, the student risks the possibility of being excluded from future school functions. Once a student leaves the dance, he/ she will not be allowed to reenter. Further disciplinary actions may also occur beginning on the following day of school. The exact nature of the offense will determine this action. Students from other schools in the area will only be admitted if accompanied by an Oneida High School student and prior arrangements have been made w ith the s chool administration. O.H.S. students will be held accountable for their guests' conduct. Middle School students may NOT attend OHS dances. BUS RULES Students should be at their designated school bus stops 10 minutes prior to pick-up time and should wait 10 feet from the bus until coming to a complete stop before attempting to boarding. Obey the following rules: 1. Be courteous. Use no profanity. 2. Keep the bus clean. Glass containers are forbidden on a bus. Eating and drinking are also not allowed. â™Ł Only school related items may be transported on a school bus.
â™Ł No skateboards, skis, snow sleds, baseball bats, balls, or non school related items. â™Ł Musical instruments are allowed, providing they do not interfere with a student's ability to find a seat or their safety. 3. Absolutely no tobacco use, no matches or lighters. 4. Remain seated at all times and follow safety procedures. 5. Keep head, hands, and feet inside the bus. 6. Never throw anything out of the windows. 7. No fighting or horseplay permitted on the bus. 8. Obey the bus driver's instructions. 9. The bus driver is authorized to assign seats. â™Ł Center loading will be used, leaving the last two rear seats empty unless bus is at capacity. 10. Avoid making loud noises or disruptive behavior that may distract the driver from the road, jeopardizing the safety of the bus. 11. Remain absolutely quiet when approaching a railroad crossing. 12. Do not leave books, lunches, or other articles in the aisles or on the bus or in front of emergency exits. 13. Never throw anything at, or in the bus. 14. Cell phone use on board the school bus is prohibited. 15. The school bus is an extension of the classroom; therefore, the same standard of conduct that applies in the classroom is expected on the bus. 16. Riding the bus is a privilege, not a right. Failure to abide by the rules will result in disciplinary action and possible suspension of bus privileges for a period of time. Requests for transportation to and/or from an address other than the home address may be approved on a short-term or
temporary basis using an approved form obtained at the main office. Steps for Requesting Special Transportation 1. Request must be submitted in writing on the proper approved form to the childâ€™s school office at least 3 days in advance. 2. Each request shall be for a period of 2 weeks or less. After every two week period, another written request must be made. 3. The Principal and Transportation Department will review each request. The parent/guardian will be notified of the approval or disapproval of the request. 4. Student must obtain a pass from the teacher or the school office for a bus change or to ride any of the late busses. Emergency Requests When adequate notice is not given due to demonstrated emergency circumstances, the principal may approve the request for a change in the drop off/pick up location of a child. If the change involves a different bus, there must be adequate seating on the bus to accommodate the change. If the request is made by telephone, the parent/guardian must submit a written request, to the childâ€™s school office, to confirm the change within 2 days. VI. GENERAL INFORMATION AND SERVICES PUPIL SERVICES The school district provides psychological, speech therapy, and tutorial services to students as judged necessary by the
teachers and the principal after contact is made with the parents. Parents may inquire about these services by contacting the principal, the guidance office or the Assistant Superintendent. GUIDANCE The services of the counselors are available to all high school students. Parents having questions regarding their child's course schedule or academic progress are encouraged to contact the guidance office. Many problems concerning both school and one's personal life can be helped by counseling. The school counselor or your teacher will be happy to try to help you with these problems. Your teacher, the main office personnel or your counselor may provide you with a pass to the guidance office at your request. PARENT CONFERENCES Parents are encouraged to make appointments for conferences with teachers and counselors by calling the guidance office at 363-6901, Option 2. EMPLOYMENT CERTIFICATES The High School Guidance Department will supervise the issuance of employment certificates to students over 14 years of age to work in those places of employment that conform to State and Federal rules with respect to the employment of youth. Information about employment certificates, working papers and/or Child Labor Law shall be made available at the guidance office of the secondary school. FIRE DRILLS Fire drills are required by law and are held at unannounced
times during the school year. It is essential that the drills be carried out in a very orderly manner with no unnecessary talking. Once evacuated, students must remain away from the building until the signal to re-enter is given. Evacuation plans are posted in each classroom. Students are not permitted to talk during the fire drill and are to remain at least 50 feet away from the building until the signal is given to re-enter. No one is to return to the building until the signal is given by the principal or his authorized representative. LIBRARY INFORMATION The OHS library staff invites you to take full advantage of our educational resources: books, videotapes, CD-ROMs, and computer databases. While recreational reading is encouraged, the main function of the OHS Library is to support curriculum-related reference and research work. Study halls are the place to do textbook homework during periods one through nine. Students need a pass to come to the library periods one through nine. It is the studentâ€™s responsibility to request the pass from the teacher who has given the library assignment. After classes, reference passes, and seniors have arrived, recreational reading passes may become available to the study halls. Students with library work to do should not depend on recreational reading passes, but need to obtain a reference pass from their teacher. The recreational reading areas are the informal seating by the current periodicals and nearby tables. This keeps the interruptions to students doing reference work to a minimum. Recreational readers are also invited to use the libraryâ€™s computer resources if these computers are not needed by classes or individual students doing reference work. Remember that a recreational reading pass is a
privilege and is not to be used for socializing. No pass is required for tenth period, if you arrive before 2:30 p.m. Students entering the library after 2:30 p.m. should bring a pass from the teacher with whom they were working. BOCES students who arrive later do not need a pass. Bus passes will be given out at the circulation desk after 2:50 p.m. The library remains open each day until 3:30 p.m. Students are expected to: Be responsible library users Enter and exit using the main door only Sign in & out of the library properly Settle down to work quickly Keep discussion brief and quiet Have library work to do Respect library property as well as staff and fellow students Return library materials, equipment & furniture to their proper places Do not bring food or drink into the library Do not request passes during the last 10 minutes of the period Comply with the rules of the school & requests from library personnel One person at a time may sign out to use the lavatory with the lavatory pass. Please request a pass from a library staff member if you need to go anywhere else. In accordance with school rules, no passes are given the last ten minutes of the class period. Books from the general collection may be signed out for two
weeks and renewed as needed. Reference books and periodicals may be signed out for overnight use at the end of the day, except on the evenings when the library will be open. Other materials such as videotapes may be checked out as well. Your student identification card serves as your library card. There are no fines for overdue materials from the regular collection, but please be considerate of your fellow students and return things as quickly as possible so others may use them. Overnight materials need to be returned before or during homeroom the following school day so that they are available for others during the school day. Failure to do so results in a fine of $1.00 per day, per item. Unpaid fines or long overdue materials will result in the loss of library privileges. Materials will be desensitized during the checkout process. Occasionally jewelry, keys or interlibrary loan books set off the alarm. If the security system alarm should sound, step aside to let other pass, then return to the circulation desk so we can determine what has triggered the alarm. Since you will be billed for lost or damaged materials at their full replacement value, please consider requesting photocopies (up to 5 pages at one time) of needed periodical and reference articles. Students who abuse their library privileges will be warned about inappropriate behavior. If the objectionable behavior continues, loss of library privileges during period one through nine as well as the evening hours, may occur. Students who have lost their library privileges may still use tenth period for library work.
The first time a student is suspended from the library, it is for two weeks. A second suspension results in the loss of privileges periods one through nine for one month. A third offense will result in the loss of privileges for one semester. The Oneida High School library is a beautiful facility equipped with an extensive curriculum-supportive collection. We invite you to work with us so that everyone can make the most effective use of the library's resources. LOST AND FOUND Students who find lost articles are asked to take them to the main office where they can be claimed by the owner. TEXTBOOKS/LIBRARY MATERIALS Textbooks, and all other library materials, are furnished by the school and students are expected to treat them with care. Students who lose or damage school property while it is checked out to them will be expected to pay for it. Students who have failed to return school property or who have not reimbursed the school district for its loss will not be issued property the following year until all accounts are settled. CARE OF SCHOOL PROPERTY To maintain a healthy environment free of vermin, students are not permitted to consume food, soda, fruit juices or other recreational drinks in classrooms or the hallways. By adhering to this request it also assists custodians in their regular maintenance of our facility. Students should not mark school furniture, walls, ceiling, floor or equipment with pen, pencil, paint or any other instrument. Do not tamper with the fire alarms, fire extinguishers or any electrical systems. Anyone who willfully destroys school property
through vandalism, arson or larceny, or who creates a hazard to the safety of our students will be referred to the proper law enforcement agency. ANY STUDENT WHO DAMAGES SCHOOL PROPERTY IS EXPECTED TO MAKE FINANCIAL RESTITUTION. LOCKERS LOCKERS ARE THE PROPERTY OF ONEIDA HIGH SCHOOL. Each student will be assigned a locker. USE ONLY THE LOCKER ASSIGNED TO YOU and keep it locked at all times. All personal items and books, when not in use, are to be kept in lockers. Do not tamper with another locker or give your combination to another person. Lockers are to be used for storage, but are not a safe place for valuables. If you have valuables which you want to keep in a safe place for the day, please register them in the main office. Bottles and cans of liquid may not be kept in lockers. These can fall out, resulting in broken glass and a sticky floor. It is expected that students use locks on their lockers. These are available in the office. Only locks obtained at the school may be placed on lockers. Lockers may be searched periodically throughout the year. Gym lockers with clothing in them should be locked during P.E. class. The school is not responsible for articles stolen from lockers. Do not leave items on the floors or benches in the locker rooms. Valuables should be given to the P.E. teacher to be secured appropriately. DRESS CODE We, at Oneida High School, believe that the dress of students affects the attitude and behavior exhibited while in
school. The business of education is of the highest priority and is taken seriously at Oneida High School; therefore, the dress of our students should be reflective of this attitude. Clothing must meet the school's standard for safety, decency and health, and should not distract from the educational process. The following are guidelines for proper student dress: Girls: ! No hats or bandanas. ! Undergarment straps can not show. ! Midriff and belly shirts are not allowed-the belly button must be covered. ! Underwear should not be showing. ! Shorts/skirts are to hang no higher than approximately mid-thigh. ! Tank tops are allowed as long the shoulder straps cover all undergarments. ! Any clothing that is too revealing (either see through or tight) is not allowed-this includes shorts. Boys: ! No hats or bandanas. ! Underwear should not be showing. ! Shorts are to hang mid-thigh. ! All baggy pants and shorts should be held up with a belt. Level of Consequences: 1. Warning and the student changes his/her clothes and parent will be contacted. 2. Student must change clothes, they receive one night Office Detention, and parent will be contacted. 3. Repeat offenders will be considered insubordinate and
will be disciplined accordingly. **Any clothing or jewelry that has obscene or has abusive language or promotes drugs, alcohol, tobacco, or sex or use thereof, will not be tolerated, and you will be asked to change your clothes and follow the consequences. Chains and accessories with spikes are a potential threat to student safety and are not allowed. Overall, if there is any question that what you are wearing could be somewhat distracting, donâ€™t wear it. Appropriate dress will be determined by the administration. SENIOR PRIVILEGES Once again this school year seniors at Oneida High School will be able to enjoy privileges that other students will not have. These privileges are both a recognition of the standing of the senior students and a reward for demonstrating acceptable behaviors reflective of a responsible person. One of the privileges that seniors have is the privilege of having the first opportunity to sign up for parking spaces in the fall. These spaces are in the area closest to the building, in the student parking lot. Seniors who have earned senior privileges will be allowed to leave the building during their lunch period and will be required to sign out daily. SENIORS WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO TAKE THEIR CAR OFF CAMPUS DURING LUNCH PERIODS. Any violation of this policy will result in revocation of their senior privileges and driving privileges for the semester. In order to earn senior privileges, seniors will be required to: 1.
Pass all credit bearing classes
Have less than two (2) unexcused absences and lates to school. 3. Have no discipline referrals
The 1st quarter senior privileges will be established from the 4th quarter marking period of their junior year. In addition, if student is eligible for senior privileges, he or she may sign out of study hall to peer tutoring. Dropping a class will not make a student eligible for senior privileges CLOSED LUNCH CAMPUS POLICY Beginning September 2010, Oneida High School will be operating a closed campus. This means that ALL students, except those granted senior privileges, will be required to stay on campus during their lunch period. All underclassmen (9th - 11th grade) will be required to remain on campus and to follow the proper attendance procedures for an appointment or excused absence during lunch. Seniors will not be allowed to take their car off campus during lunch periods. CAFETERIA/FOOD The school cafeteria is maintained as a vital part of the health program of the school. To encourage good nutrition, a wellbalanced breakfast and lunch are offered at a reasonable price.
The Oneida High School cafeteria offers a la carte menus, in addition to their daily hot lunch program. Also offered is a daily special, featuring items similar to nearby "fast food" restaurants. Hamburgers, fish, subs and pizza are offered on a rotating basis. For the same price as a hot lunch you will receive one of these items, the fruit of the day and milk. By varying the menu and offering students' popular favorites, the O.H.S. cafeteria appeals to both students and teachers alike. The lunchroom management and your fellow students will appreciate your cooperation in: 1. Depositing all lunch litter in wastebaskets. 2. Leaving the table and floor around your place in a clean condition for others. STUDENTS WHO FAIL TO COOPERATE WITH THESE FUNDAMENTAL RULES MAY EXPECT DISCIPLINARY ACTION AND/OR CAFETERIA CLEAN-UP DUTY. Food and beverages should not be taken out of the Cafeteria or into other parts of the building from the cafeteria area. This is to minimize class distractions and to deter insect infestations. PROHIBITED ITEMS Radios, tape players, cellular phones, pagers, video games, CD players, etc. are items that are not permitted to be used in academic areas of the school. Not only do they interfere with the learning process but, they are often lost or stolen. If found they will be confiscated. Theft of such articles will not be investigated by school personnel. Students are requested not to bring the above mentioned items to school.
FUND RAISING All fund raising activities must be pre-approved by the appropriate advisor and the principal. VISITORS ALL VISITORS MUST REPORT TO THE MAIN OFFICE FOR PERMISSION TO VISIT ANYONE OR ANY ROOM in this school building. Visitors who receive permission to remain in the building will be given a special "Our School Guest" name tag, which must be worn while in the building. Visitors must comply with all of the school rules and regulations while on school grounds. A student visitor should not be absent from his/her "home" school to visit with us. The student must be in good standing in his/ her "home" school. Multiple days of visitation will NOT be allowed. Permission for a student visitor must be obtained from an administrator at least 24 hours in advance. SCHOOL SUPPLIES All students are expected to provide their own basic supplies, such as notebooks, paper, pens, pencils, erasers, gym shoes and gym suits. All students are expected to come prepared for classes every day. The high school does have its' own bookstore, which sells many of the basic supplies. The bookstore is open prior to homeroom and during the school day. POSTERS Students wishing to place posters anywhere in the building must have the permission of the faculty member sponsoring the activity and the principal, who will initial the poster.
EMERGENCY CLOSINGS Due to weather conditions, it may be necessary to close the school. If this should occur, the following radio stations will broad-cast the notification of school closings: WMCR and WSYR. STUDENT AUTOMOBILES Driving to school is a privilege for juniors and seniors at Oneida High School â€“ not a right. Students who drive a motor vehicle to school must know and obey the following rules and follow the direction of the parking attendant: Each student must register the vehicle each school year. Registration blanks may be obtained in the main office. Each student must display a parking permit as prescribed for the current year and park in their assigned space. Sitting in cars during the school day is not permitted. No reckless driving. Student parking will operated on a first come first serve daily basis. Students are not allowed to congregate around vehicles in the parking lot. No motor vehicle shall be operated at a speed greater that 15 miles per hour anywhere on the Oneida High School grounds. No vehicle shall be driven about the parking area except to enter or leave the same, and no person shall operate a motor vehicle on school property except in connection with some legitimate school business or school activity. Students may not drive their vehicles to BOCES. No student may park in a faculty spot or they will loose
the privilege to park on school grounds. No student with senior privilege will be allowed to drive their car during lunch periods. Violation of any of the above rules, or any other school rule, may result in the revocation of driving and parking privileges. In appropriate situations, school authorities may remove a vehicle at the owner's expense. The Oneida City School District is not responsible for damage that may occur to a vehicle when parked on school grounds.

ELECTRONIC DEVICES/CELL PHONES, ETC. The use of electronic devices such as cell phones, pagers or other electronic sending devices, personal music players, etc. in school is a major disruption to the educational process. These devices must be turned off and out of sight once entering the building until the school day ends at 3:03 p.m. or later for students in detention or working with a teacher after school. Students may use personal music players and cell phones IN THE CAFETERIA ONLY during their lunch periods and must transport the devices to the cafeteria in their backpack or on their person out of sight. We expect students to use proper etiquette in the use of their cell phones during lunch periods. Students are prohibited from taking pictures or video tape recordings. Any violation of taping a student or taking pictures without administrative permission will be considered a violation of the policy and will result in confiscation of the student cell phone. Students are not to wear earphones in the halls during the day. Cell phones will continue to be allowed to be used outside the building. Student will also be granted the use of their cell phones during 10th period below the ramps
by the cafeteria and the middle gym. Cell phone use in gyms, locker rooms and all academic classes (including all study halls) and hallways of the building during school hours will be strictly enforced. Students disregarding these policies will be subject to the following disciplinary actions(s): â™Ł Warning: the student is warned and the device must be turned off and put away. â™Ł First Offense: the student gives the device to the teacher who completes a disciplinary referral form and turns both in to the Principal or Assistant Principal. The student must meet with the administrator in order to retrieve the device and the parent/guardian will be called. A detention will be assigned. â™Ł Second and Further Offenses: same as above offense plus the device must be retrieved by the parent/guardian; further disciplinary action is also taken. Assigning of ISS/EDP/OSS. Parents needing to contact their child may call the Main Office at 363-6901, Option 1, to help eliminate these distractions. In case of an emergency, the student is immediately notified and brought to the Main Office; for non-emergencies, the student will receive the message at the end of the period.
