05 Design Process

END OF MODULE SELF-EVALUATION

NAME

1. What skills have you developed through this module and how effectively do you think you have applied them? I feel it is quite hard to define which skills I have developed solely through this module alone as it is a combination of all the modules. This in itself means I have learnt a lot, but the main thing I would say I have developed is my skill to look back and reflect and then in turn learn. I now have started to realise the direction in which I wish to take my practice which is something I had panicked about prior to this year. I feel my presentation skills are getting much better as I don't get as nervous as I used to and I can think more clearly whilst talking in front of people.

2. What approaches to/methods of design production have you developed and how have they informed your design development process? Throughout this module I have improved my crafting skills. Initially my skills with a craft knife and any form of packaging was awful however I thought I needed to improve on this and have become pretty perfectionist with these things. Although my packaging isn't the most complicated I feel it definitely improves the look and feel of your work and can bring everything together.

3. What strengths can you identify in your work and how have/will you capitalise on these? I feel my strengths lie within concept generation, thinking of how an idea can run throughout a project. I feel this in turn provides me strengths with branding. I think I will focus on branding more often as to create a memorable brand you need to have an interesting concept. Again I feel as though my strengths lie within web design, even though the actual website for my Brand You project didn't turn out too

Again I feel as though my strengths lie within web design, even though the actual website for my Brand You project didn't turn out too well which is ironic! Either way web design is still pretty new to me and I feel as though I am constantly improving my skills and knowledge within this.

4. What weaknesses can you identify in your work and how will you address these in the future? I would say my weaknesses are within not experimenting more with print. As I prefer web I would rather spend my time on that however I have felt print based media is necessary to pass the module so I sometimes feel as though I don't know where to concentrate. My website didn't work out the way I wanted to this time which is disappointing however I will correct this and take it live.

5. Identify five things that you will do differently next time and what do you expect to gain from doing these? ▪ ▪ ▪

▪ ▪

concentrate on web and digital to allow myself to explore my design interests fully collaborate - so that I am able to put my concepts and ideas into reality contact more people - i regret not speaking to Numiko sooner but I did not feel ready as I lacked knowledge within the digital field. However after speaking to a peer, she said that even though she did not have much evidence of working with web they were more interested in her concepts. If I'd have known this I would have contacted them sooner improve confidence - this is mainly again so that I have the confidence to contact the people I want to contact. This will allow me to network further and increase my chances of progression keep on top of blogging as I seem to get confused with what I have already

6.How would you grade yourself on the following areas: (please indicate using an ‘x’) 5= excellent, 4 = very good, 3 = good, 2 = average, 1 = poor 1 2 3 4 5 Attendance x Punctuality x Motivation x Commitmen x t Quantity of work x produced Quality of work x produced Contribution x to the group The evaluation of your work is an important part of the assessment criteria and represents a percentage of the overall grade. It is essential that you give yourself enough time to complete your written evaluation fully and with appropriate depth and level of self-reflection. If you have any questions relating to the self evaluation process speak to a member of staff as soon as possible.
