Thursday 1st August | 9pm | The Big Wheel | Free The festival is delighted to welcome ‘back home’ the award winning Callan poet and documentary maker, writer and broadcaster Joe Kearney. Join us for an intimate reading in the homely setting of The Big Wheel. Many of Joe Kearney’s radio pieces and documentaries were influenced by his early life in Callan. His film on the life of the late fiddler Mickey Finn also from Callan, received an award at the New York Film Festival. The memory box

A dystopian world in which people who are different are feared, persecuted and hunted. Memory Box tells the terrifying tale of an extraordinary man who journeys to escape the regime of oppression shrouding the land, armed only with his memories. Equinox is a bold, beautiful, brilliant and brave ensemble. A Practical Guide to Women is a darkly comic insight into the psyche of an uncommon Irish bachelor. A self help lecture for the tragically inept, it comes complete with impractical demonstrations. From first date to final fling, Michael McManus will selflessly share his knowledge and wisdom.

SPORT John Locke’s Bank Holiday Juvenile Tournament Sunday 4th August | 1pm parade, 2pm tournament | John Locke’s Park / Fair Green This annual festival of young hurlers (under 9’s and under 12’s) from all over the county is a highlight of Callan’s sporting year. See the future stars of the parish and county trying out their skills and displaying the enthusiasm that makes Kilkenny hurling legendary. A number of the present Kilkenny team have taken part in this tournament when they were young.

RELIGION Festival Mass - Festival of Priesthood
