www.abctmc.toastmastersclubs.org VOL 2, ISSUE 1

Letter from the Editor Dear Members and friends of Allied Bahrain Communicators’ Toastmasters Club

It was with great enthusiasm in July 2016, I took over the responsibilities as Vice President Public Relations of the club. As the first order of business I would like to express my sincere appreciation to all fellow Officers and members for their efforts and dedication in transforming this Club into truly multi-cultural. As the editor, my vision is to continue the success of the newsletter. The newsletter will continue to be a vehicle for promoting fluent communication among all members of the club. Welcome to the first issue of the Allied Bahrain Communicators Toastmasters Club for the year 2016-17. The purpose of this electronic newsletter is to keep members of the club connected, and to provide a platform for information in order to assist the improvisation of Communication and Leadership skills.

'helps foster your communication and leadership skills with a dash of entertainment and a pinch of fun.' For this issue, we have established the pattern of requesting the club officers to submit an article to share their experience as an officer of the Allied Bahrain Toastmasters’ Club. We propose to follow similar pattern for the next issue as well and in addition, expect each member to be motivated to share their experiences as well. The District 20 Director, DTM Ali Shahbaz Ali, Division C Director, DTM Ansar Mohideen and the Club Officers are to be thanked for contributing to this issue of the E-Newsletter. Another person deserving of thanks is TM Namrata Nagendra, whose InDesign skills were invaluable to the creation of this issue of the newsletter. In this issue, we have included articles from various sources. We have included the club and individual achievements in this newsletter. With the conclusion of the recent Club Annual Speech Contest, some highlights have been included. With the revised format and content of Allied Beats, contributions and essays on various topics by members are highly encouraged. Hope this newsletter helps foster your communication and leadership with a dash of entertainment and a pinch of fun. This editorial office will look forward to receiving contributions of news, announcements and essays. We would love to hear from everyone!

DISTRICT 20 DIRECTOR'S MESSAGE Greetings Allied Bahrain Communicators TM Club Members Toastmasters Program is a journey we embark to seek perfection in public speaking and leadership, only to find out Perfection is a lifelong achievement, but in time we do achieve excellence. Every role we play at the club, outside of the club environment, Home, Work, Community as far as we don’t do it with passion, we can never achieve expected levels of excellence.

'Perfection is a lifelong achievement, but in time we do achieve excellence. Every role we play at the club, outside of the club environment, Home, Work, Community as far as we don’t do it with passion, we can never achieve expected levels of excellence. .'

When we serve more, we sharpen our skills towards excellence. Learning and not serving will bring us to a stagnant position where sooner or later, all acquired skills will vanish. Clubs can be very successful if they work on the” Club Success Plan” and Check on “Moments of Truth” periodically. Work with Passion, Thrive on Excellence.

Happy New Year ABC Toastmasters . It is very heartening to see ABC Toastmasters Club achieving prominence in its journey in its second term as a truly multicultural club embracing diverse individuals who has a true desire to learn and excel in a fun filled , enjoyable and supportive environment . The mix of seasoned , experienced toastmasters and enthusiastic new members , create a great atmosphere for enhanced learning at ABC . The members being naturally fun loving , contribute to entertaining sessions regularly . This is a hall mark of a great team . I wish to see ABC adding on this strengths towards achieving a status where every other Toastmasters club in Bahrain envy to emulate ABC Toastmasters . A challenging 6 months of term from 2016 / 2017 is ahead of ABC . The commitment to achieve President Distinguished Club for the 2016 / 2017 term requires increased vigour . The track record of past term is envious where ABC achieved President Distinguished Club Award in its formation year . I am humbled and privileged as the immediate past president of ABC Toastmasters for being part of that great achievement for the term 2015 / 2016 . This term ABC should focus as well in achieving President Distinguished Club Award to continue its enviable growth . Club Officers lead by the highly skilled and motivational leader TM Farhaz Farouk , are indeed exceptionally skilled at repeating that feat for the current term . I wish members of ABC Toastmasters , all the very best towards that goal which shall make ABC Toastmaster Club flourish towards greatness . These achievements shall definitely auger well for the next term and help incoming officers to serve the club with pride and distinction I would like to see as well the flag of ABC Toastmasters flying high at the upcoming Area 46 and Division C contests . Let ABC Toastmasters compete with the true spirit of toastmasters and display the abundance of talent possessed by ABC members . I wish members of ABC Toastmasters Club a rewarding and fun filled learning ahead as Toastmasters !!!

As your VP - E , my best wishes to all the members of ABC - TC and Kudos for all your zealous efforts and assiduousness . Rewinding , a year back , ABC TC which started as a bud , is now in the process of blossoming into a beautiful flower attracting people from various nationalities and walks of life , seeking change i . e to improve their speaking and leadership skills . In my opinion , being a member of Toastmasters and attending club meetings regularly provides a valuable experience . Regardless of the inherent abilities and skills , I have noticed waves of change in self - confidence , leadership and communication skills by just participating in various roles in Toastmasters . There are many changes that arise , but I can assure you that all are changes for the better . Change is what Toastmasters is all about . I encourage every member of ABC TC to continue sharing the opportunities available through Toastmasters with others and continue to bring in waves of changes within yourself and others . SAA, NADEEM MOHAMMED

Toastmasters , If I share the word , people think that I have joined a bakery . Well there is nothing here like a bakery other than snacks in the break . Let me inform you that you learn communication skills and leadership . You meet amazing people who never make their nose high because of their status . Even if you jump in a club where you don ’ t know a single member , be prepared for a warm welcome . Being an ExCom member in the first year itself , at the beginning like any other member would react , how can I be Sargent at Arms at this beginner level ? With much support and appreciation , I accepted the post . Its an amazing experience , you learn how to be punctual as the whole event is dependent on the SAA . A tiny mistake can ruin the meeting . SAA is not alone , let ’ s not forget the other Excom members . President , Vice presidents and secretaries . Let me tell you that SAA is one of the strongest positions in the ExCom , with one having the largest responsibilities . Well These aren ’ t enough , Without members , ExCom alone will be bored . Here comes team effort . See how toastmaster teaches you team building activity ? Trust also plays a role . Cooperation cannot be possible unless there is trust between each other . At the end , you learn a lot from your and others mistakes as each speech is evaluated , plus you have a lot of fun with joke masters . If you weren ’ t satisfied by the speech , during the break , enjoy networking with people . That ’ s what toastmasters is all about and a lot more

Real Talk: Opportunities

Richie Dadhley, UK Lifestyle Blogger

If there’s one thing that I know for sure about truly successful people, it’s that they didn’t ‘just get lucky.’ Too many times people say that if someone would just give them this huge opportunity then they’d be at the top of their game. They tell themselves that they’re working really hard, but that life is unfair to them. They are convinced that successful people only succeeded because they were ‘in the right place at the right time.’ Don’t get me wrong, I’m not disagreeing with the fact that there is some element of fortunate timing to success. Who knows what Bill Gates would have accomplished if he’d been born in the 16th century, or where Tony Robbins would be if he’d been born in Denmark. The point is, you don’t have control over where you are born and into what circumstances. But what you do have control over is what you do with those circumstances, you can either sit back and complain about them, or you can use them to your advantage. The more I develop as a person, the more and more I believe that every day is its own unique opportunity. An opportunity is not some ‘big break’ that makes you a millionaire, an opportunity is any situation that allows you to progress towards your end goal, and every day can offer you exactly that opportunity.

'an opportunity is any situation that allows you to progress towards your end goal, and every day can offer you exactly that opportunity.' This is why I don’t agree with the idea that successful people ‘just got lucky.’ I strongly believe that the reason that they got those big break ‘opportunities’ is because they took advantage of all the other small day-to-day ones. They woke up every morning and asked themselves ‘What can I do today that gets me one step closer?’ They looked at their circumstances and asked themselves ‘What is unique about this situation and how can I use it?’ They understood the concept that there is only two ways for change to occur… either something external changes or something internal changes.

The truth is, more often than not it’s very hard to control your environment. It’s not impossible, but sometimes it’s impractical. What you do have complete, and I mean complete, control over if yourself – no-one can force you do to anything. That’s a great thing, because it means that no-one can make you do the things you don’t want to, but equally it means that no-one can make you do the things you should do. If you’re going to succeed in any area of life, it’s vital that you understand that it’s on you. You have to go out and look for these opportunities, you have to make sure that you execute on them, and you have to make sure you’re not being held back by fear and anxiety. This is by no means an easy task, to think otherwise would be naïve. But, what I can promise you is it will pay off, I wouldn’t be writing this if I didn’t believe that. So from now on don’t get caught up in the comfort of complaints and excuses. Instead, make sure that you are taking advantage of the opportunities of today so that tomorrow you may move onto bigger and better things.

Huna Inspiration O ka makapo wale no ka mea hapapa i ka pouli.” If you’re going nowhere, you’re guaranteed to get there. IKE – The world is what you think it is “ Lawe i ka ma ’ alea a ku ’ ono ’ ono .” If you want to become good at something and become successful, you have to put in hard work and practice for a while until it gets deep and becomes a part of who you are. There has been considerable importance placed on the power of thought both in the ancient time and in the new age movement. “

The efficacy of thought as a medium for transformation has been documented since the ancient times when the Buddha said: Become aware: Do you look at the world as a cooperative and dynamic place or do you look at it as a hostile and unsafe place and how are your thoughts, beliefs and actions influencing that opinion? Find bright spots and evidence of how the world can be a supportive and co-operative place. Stop the snowball of thoughts that make you anxious and stressed out and replace with thoughts that give you a sense of comfort and relief.

'Live your life while the sun’s still shining.' 'If you want to become good at something and become successful, you have to put in hard work and practice for a while until it gets deep and becomes a part of who you are.'

MANAWA – Now is the moment of power “ Oi kau ka lau , E hana I ola Honua .” Live your life while the sun’s still shining. While the past and the future hold powerful lessons, examples and possibilities, there can be little doubt that the power of the now and the current moment holds the greatest key to self-fulfillment and success. You may have failed at something in the past but the amount of persistence that you will display in this current moment determines yet again if you will be propelled forward or stay static. The question to ask yourself continually is if you are willing to live in the stress and fears of the past or future or are you willing to cast them aside and take meaningful action in the current moment. Without any doubt, you may observe that people who receive great results are always taking immediate action in the current moment. They seem to have no hesitation pursuing their excellence or their dreams and make the most of this very powerful “now.” Are you willing to celebrate, take action and launch your best self in this moment and all the moments of now that will come forth in your life? Live in the current moment, not in the past or the future. Bring your attention and engagement back to the current moment of power. Take action now and completely enjoy this moment of attention. Allow your mind to let go of the things that are beyond your control and instead make a small meaningful change to the present moment by your attention and action.
