Dwelling in a house is not only a functional issue, but also a spiritual one. The house is the locus of mind (kokoro), and the mind is the locus of god. --Tadao Ando

Personal Statement I always fascinate architect and interior design. I switched my major from Industrial Design to Interior Design in my Sophomore year after I took an architectural material class. In that class, I chose "Transparent Cement" as my subject, I got the opportunity to work with Material Institute's students to make use of the "Transparent Cement" in product design and interior design, and it gave me an opportunity to further explore how beautiful this new material is with its creative usage on architecture. Tadao Ando and his work "the Church of the Light" gave me a lot of inspiration how a stiff and rough material shapes gentleness and benevolence with the magical usage of light. I think it is also the characteristics of being an interior designer fascinates me most: an interior designer take advantage of the color, light, material, location, and so on in one single project, rendering people a comprehensive experience that enlightens our daily life. Adapting concepts of new technology is a main theme about my design. The Bosch's office in Nanjing is my first project. From this work, I conducted the up-front analysis for the site and learned the balance between designer's idea and customer requirements, and how to give a presentation to the customers. The 1001hao exhibition room is my favorite work. This room would display the 3D printing products and the chairman want to have a high-tech sense space. The difficulty was how to demonstrate the concept of Network Manufacturing. My experiences of studying Industrial Design rendered me better understanding of functionality. I brought those lessons with me into Interior Design. Be a good listener helped me a lot, I could hear the voice between the lines. I found it was the same that both product designer and interior designer have to understand the demand of their customers before the design process. Through sufficient communication, my second blue print got accepted, and it became a successful work both for the chairman and me. My long-term goal is to launch my own design studio and bring as many as good designs to the world. As we can see, our world have changed more faster since internet was created, so has interior design, but relatively not obvious. In the future, new technology will redefine interior design. Our houses, furniture and other products in the building will be much more connected to the internet and become much more environmentally friendly. To be a designer that is responsible to the client, society and our nature, I must learn more knowledge about architecture, material, science, humanity and so on. Only by this way, can I create something different. Since graduated from Southeast University in 2016, I have been trying to use interdisciplinary materials in my design, such as PVC pipe, plants, paper, and so on. Finding a convenient assemble pattern and using reusable and environmental material in exhibition design are my recent goals, and I'm looking forward to range its extension application and continuing this exploration in the graduate period.

Conceptual Formation Circles symbolize harmony, flexibility and unify in Chinese culture. It is applied in many ways in the traditional Chinese environmental design.

Reading a home-run book might be one of the most enjoyable and satisfying event in our life. We all have the experience that we enjoy the reading so much that we can't put the book down. I hope this interior design can help readers find the marvellous sensation.
The small circle of first floor were devided by 2 arc walls.
Three circles make up the fundamental of the building.
The second floor were devided by a long and complicated curve.
Two arces connect the circles as a whole. The bookstore is attended to provide local community a comfortable space to study and read. It can roughly devided in to three spaces: the reading and studing space, the communication space and the meditation space. Location The location of the building can be everywhere, either in a room or on the ground of a park . When you walk into the glass blocks, you will feel like lost in the forest of colorful glass.
The Magic of Glass and light During the day, the glasses reflect the surrounding environment and vanishes itself. During the night, the surroundings are lightened by the bulb showing multicolored lights. It continues to change its outlook with the changing of time like a dreamland that not belongs to the real world.
Emotions and Surroundings Our emotions are influenced by the surroudings. I hope people's emotions can be amplified when walking in the narrow, bewildered space. Time is another element that affect us, so the route is designed very winding that it cause visitors some trouble getting out off there.
Folk Art Museum This design is trying to renovates the abandoned factory and to provide an exhibition place for local culture and art which is an intangible cultural heritage that shouldn't be neglected. In addintion, this renewal must be welcomed by the local community because the old generation has an affection on where they have been work, which also can remand us about the history of passionate time devoting to construction.

The sugar refinery, located in a small town of southwest China, has been built for 40 years and been abandoned for a decade. It's large scale, long history and typical apperance make it an important industrial heritage and there is a significant value for protection and adaptive reuse.
The suger refinery is in the eage of TengCong, a small town virtually on the border of China and Myanmar. Two villeges and several hot scenic spot are around the factory.
The renewal of the old factory has a great value for local people to integrate the history and transmute it as a public museum which combined with other secondary facilities.
TengChong's cultural life is one of remarkable diversity. Shadow puppet, folk arts and crafts, tea culture and the minority's festivals are top cultural industries in this place.
The situation of the factory
Although some walls and windows were damaged, the old factory still relatively integrity. It enjoys a large scale and abandend interior structures. Therefore, in my concept, I have combined several facilities desired by the inhabitant and tourists with the museum.
View As the hightest building amoung the complex, people will be able to overlooking the old factory in the forth floor.
Sunshine The building get good sunshine on the Southeast side. And the ruthless sunshine should be controled during Summer.
Path Located in the central of the factory, several pathes lead to the South face of the building, making it an important place to visit.
The exterior skin of the building were researved maximumly, and some broken walls were replaced by huge glass windows which has leaf-like patterns that serves both as ornaments and as a way to weaken sunlight, so as to balance the internal environment.
Add an interlayer between the third floor and the ceilings.
Transform the long and narrow second floor as a gallery.
Due to the high ceiling and broad room, the ground floor can serve as an active and multi functional space.
The forth and fifth floor mainly about the special locial artifact exhibiting and handworking which is some activities and attractions for visitors to experience the process.
The windows in second floor will be blocked. Using different artifical light to enhance the mystique of the works.
Retain the industrial style and add local art decoration in the space.
The broken wall in the first floor was replaced by large glass walls, with metal cards which shape are come from locial ficus trees' leaves on the surface, enhance the interactions between the landscape and the hall.
The huge concrete funnel in third floor will be conserved, serving as a exhibition platform. The atrium bring sun light to third floor
Choosing the most common materials in the local area. Concrete and iron are best for indicating the history of this place. As an organic material, woods are genial and warm, and neutralize the cold feelings bring from iron and concrete.
-To make a good view of the interior, I choose 2/3 part of the entire building as model. People can see more details from the vertical section, some walls were leaved out to represent the structural features. And in order to increase the curiosity of looking inside, some walls and windows were reserved. -Most abandoned buildings are disgusted by us, I think one of the important methods in reusing the old building is expressing the beauty of the original structure, for each building has the characteristic that depended by its functions and time.
1001Hao  Linked Fab This exhibition interior design is a commerical project for 1001hao & Linked fab when I just gratuated from college. The design is inspired by the company's innovative Network manufacturing model, by which the customer can upload their blue print file and customize their own 3D-printing project.

This company is like a factory on the internet, people upload their blueprint on the specified web and they can receive the 3D printing models after a few days. It helps students and designers to bring their ideas into reality.
Lighting Design The light strips radiate from the central point where eight screens are fixed on the wall. At the end of each strip, there is a rectangular cave, which resulted in additional space for product presentation. All these are representing the concept that the 1001hao is the factory that makes your ideas came into reality.
The showcase is used for displaying 3D printing products, to fit the style and size to different products, I designed 3 different kinds of showcase. Also, soft light and arcs were used in the design.
There are so many sleek curving strip lights on the wall, which increased the difficulty of construction. To ensure the quality of the work, I had to go to the site frequently. It was a pleasant time communicating with the works, and they patiently attempting to put my concept come true. Also, I appreciated that I have learn so much skills and knowledge from them.
Designer Home Bosch's Office in Nanjing, China This work was a project coorperated with my professor Yang in the first semester of my senior year. The biggest problem is how to make the restricted interspace meet different kinds of needs of the staff. Such as works, conference, printing and the exhibiting of models and materials. And we want to make a more effective and comfortable space for the designers who are working there.
