2019 has been a year of growing.

Within this year I have learned and I have grown in every capacity. I have grown accademicaly, I have grown socially, I have grown financially and so many other ways that I find it difficult to put into words.

Ashlin Abbott, Student

The year began with news of a move, a promotion at work and leadership positions in two different campus organizations. As always, the year brings new classes that challenge time management and knowledge. I once again learned how little I actually know and how much more I have to learn.

I look forward to the many new adventures to come, Ashlin

TRAVEL New York City, New York St. Louis, Missouri Seaside, Florida Orlando, Florida Nashville, Tenneessee

Trip to New York City, New York exceeds expectations. Travel is an integral part of growing. Exploring new and old cities and learning about different cultures go hand in hand when expanding one’s borders.

St. Louis - January Seaside - March Orlando - June New York City - October Nashville - December

This year I was fortunate enough to have the opportunity to explore many different places and learn not only about the world around me, but also more about myself as an individual and as a designer, student and photographer. These experiences have taught me to be more open to life, to look at things with a different view point and to always look on the brighter side, while still being aware of those around me.

Education Junior Year speeds by. I am now a junior in college and will be a senior right around the corner and the onlyo thing I can think is how surreal it feels. This year I managed to work 40 hours a week and go to school full time while being active in student organizations on campus. I have managed to maintain a high GPA and to make it on the deans list every semester.

Work

Learning new positions and trusted with more responsibilty leads to promotion at work.

My job is not one that you would expect a typicaly student to have. I am the youngest person to have ever been hired by Millennium Home Furnishings, a local design and furniture retailer in Germantwon, Tenneessee. I have been there for almost two years now. I have worked in many different capacities while being there. I have worked as a sales associate, designer, intern and manager, most of the positions actually happen at once. It requires a great deal of determination and time management to work full time while going to school full time. I will say, however, that doing so has taught me invaluable skills. I have learned how to juggle much more than your average college student. It has taught me how to be more responsible and how if you work hard enough, you really can achieve anything.

Leadership This year I was approached to lead my sorority in two different positions. First as Corresponding Secretary and now as Vice President of Event Management. I also recieved the honor of serving as Executive Secretary for the Young Americans for Freedom. The three positions could not have been more different, but they have taught me that I can do more and am stronger than I ever imagined. I have learned organizational skills, how to be more confident and that it is okay not to be able to do everything myself.

Philanthropy $12,000 raised for Ronald Mcdonald House Charities and 14 of hair donated to Locks of Love Foundation makes for a philanthropic year.

Personal Relationships in all different capacities continue to grow.

As of January of 2019, i have been in a relationship for two years and will soon be closing in on three. It never ceases to amaze me how kind and compassionate he has taught me to be. Our relationship continues to grow and evolve every year. New experiences made together help us grow not only as a couple but also as individuals.

Home New roomates lead changes in the home. A new home with new people was a welcome change in June of 2019. This experience has taught me to be more tolerant, understanding and patient. As I come into contact with more and more different people in life, I have learned one thing that stands out to me the most, working well with others and learning to adapt will lead you to success. It has also taught me to embrace new changes and to accept things that are outside of my control.

Sisterhood Relationships within Alpha Delta Pi sorority continue to grow.

Every year I become more thankful and am humbled by the generosity and support of the women of Alpha Delta Pi. This amazing group of women help push me to be the best version of myself possible. I have grown to be a more confident and ambitious version of myself through the encouragement of my sisters.

Family Spending time with family brings holiday cheer. Christmas is my favorite time of year and it is always made sweeter by being around family and loved ones. Being so far from home can be difficult some times. However, being away from my family has taught me how to be more independent and how to think for myself.

2019 Summary 2019 was a year of changes. I have learned so much about myself and the world around me. I have gained so many new friendships and experiences.

2020 Goals Next year I want to continue growing. I want to continue broadining my horizons. I want to continue to learn and continue to become the best version of myself. My main goal for next year is to break outside of my comfort zone, apply to a new internship and to believe in myself. Pushing yourself to become a better person than you were the year before not only benefits yourself, but also others around you.
