INTRODUCTION Madeira is rich in terms of heritage, whether it is cultural, historical or natural, which makes it a place with unique characteristics in the whole world. Given these aspects, it’s no surprise that it has a huge flow of visitors throughout the whole year. The University of Madeira Students’ Union (AAUMa) has been developing several projects in the Tourism field which have the purpose of getting everyone acquainted with all that Madeira has to offer. Since its creation in 1991, the Union has managed to execute several iniciatives throughout the years thanks to the volunteer work done by its collaborators and now, through the EVS program, we hope to receive new volunteers to collaborate in the projects in progress, volunteers which will have the chance to learn about the history and culture of Madeira, as well as the Portuguese language.

PROJECT DETAILED DESCRIPTION The University of Madeira Students’ Union (AAUMa) has been developing several projects in the Tourism field, with the purpose of getting everyone acquainted with the cultural, historical and natural heritage of Madeira. In order to reach the maximum number of people, a lot of work has to be done in the fields of Marketing and Communication, which implies the conception of support material such as flyers, maps, videos or websites. Given the number of iniciatives developed by AAUMa, it is necessary to capture photos and videos of several places and events, from photos of the inside of monuments as the Jesuits’ College of Funchal or the City Hall, to wonderful landscapes for which Madeira is known worldwide. The role of the volunteer will be to get acquainted with the several projects that AAUMa develops, to assess, through the Communication’s Department, the needs of each project, and to plan the capture of photos and/or videos needed, to process them and to develop the support material needed, whether it’s in digital format, such as videos, websites or banners, or in printed format, such as maps, flyers or posters. The volunteer will be inserted in AAUMa’s Communication’s Department and will develop its tasks in several locations in Madeira, according to the needs of every project, whereas the work related transport will be assured by AAUMa at all times.

The archipelago consists of two inhabited islands (Madeira and Porto Santo) and two groups of uninhabited islands (Ilhas Sal- vagens and Desert Islands), which are natural reserves. The Madeira Archipelago has about 260,000 inhabitants and the currency is euro. The archipelago is a Portuguese territory endowed with political and administrative autonomy, provided by the Government of Portugal, under the Constitution of the Portuguese Republic.
