ROTORUA

ROTORUA Must visit

Rotorua

1. BLUE BATHS This heritage-listed bathhouse first fully opened in 1933 and is located in the Government Gardens.

THRILLS AND SPILLS

The Blue Baths blend art deco and Spanish Mission architecture, while all bathing pools exude 1930s glamour and style. The waters here are geothermally heated and fresh (not mineral) water, and are heated from 30°C to 42°C. The pools are open daily from 10am to 6pm.

2. KEROSENE CREEK Hot spring and freshwater stream combine here to make pleasantly warm pools beside a beautiful waterfall. Surrounded by native bush, Kerosene Creek is popular with locals and visitors. It’s just 35 minutes south of Rotorua on the Old Waiotapu Rd and best visited in daylight hours.

Maori believe that Rotorua owes its thermal attractions to an early spiritual leader from the Te Arawa tribe, Ngatoroirangi. Fisherman in Rangiuru Bay at sunrise © Adrian Hodge / Destination Rotorua

O

nce you’ve visited Rotorua, it’s easy to understand why both Kiwis and international travellers love this city so much. Big on nature, heritage and hospitality, this city has a great deal of heart and soul. But if it’s action and adventure you’re after, you’ve come to the right place. Whether it’s rafting, jet-boating, off-roading, luging, soaring through the sky in a giant swing, tumbling downhill in a plastic bubble called a Zorb, or blazing through the forest on a mountain bike, Rotorua

certainly knows how to give you an adrenalin rush. The kids will definitely love Rotorua too. Exotic wildlife, animal encounters, horse riding, hot pools, fun tours, cool rides and lots more are guaranteed to create a fun family trip! Combine all of this with Rotorua’s geothermal landscape, cultural experiences and historical sites, and you have one great location for a fun-filled holiday. With so much to see and do, it’s little wonder that Rotorua is consistently one of the most visited tourist destinations in New Zealand.
