Marseilles Block Project, my project stacks double height units and lack a central corridor on each floor to maximize on space. The lofts have four windows that are fixed towards the highline. The stacking of these lofts in the sky create an impressive tower experience that is very noticeable on my block.

within the short film produced for the bourne estate we conveyed a certain dichotomy between interiorex terior and ac tive -inac tive. more explicitly, the move was to show a monotonous environment, between the large building blocks, and reveal quick hints of domestic activity spread around the estate. o ne particular element we found interesting; the gallery that has been privatized. the drawing of the gallery is to embody the domesticity seen in large housing projects such as the bourne estate. hanging clothes outside is one of the most mundane activities, but in this case it adds decoration and liveliness to the façade. there is a false sense of c o m m u n a l w i t h s u c h a p u b l i c d i s p l a y. h o we ve r, w h a t we don’t see in the drawing is the threshold into this space. it separates the public space, or the stairwell t h a t c o n n e c t s a l l t h e u n i t s t o g e t h e r, f ro m t h e u n i t i t s e l f. a c c e s s t o t h e g a l l e r y i s s o l e l y fo r t h e u s e r. i n f a c t w h a t appears to be uniting them together is the vertical brick wall supporting the floor slabs which divide them. in addition to identifying domesticity within the private galler y, it was impor tant to show where the user was most active. in the film we saw a mother greeting her child and grandkids, a man moving boxes, and a private garden that was over flowing with greener y. the galler y was a threshold to the unit. this was in stark contrast to the glimpses of interior we saw; single bed and lack of ac tivity. it is clear that our obser vations were situational, but we still wanted to convey this.
