Dear Abbey.....

by Abbey Korman

Dear Abbey, I’m in the third grade and my friends in other classes don’t get to eat with me. I barely get to see them and I’m afraid we’re going to lose our friendship. Please help. -- Lobster Dude Dear Lobster Dude, I know what you’re going through. I had similar problems. You can try setting up play dates or calling your friends. If you still feel you’re not seeing them enough, maybe the parents of all your friends can set up special get-togethers once every few weeks. -- Abbey

Dear Abbey, My best friend moved away and I’m pretty sad. I probably won’t see her for a long time, if ever. I tried everything to keep our friendship going, including letters and birthday cards and other special notes. What should I do? -- Mopey Dear Mopey, Having friends move away is very tough. One of my best friends moved to England when I was in the third grade. We email each other and some of my friends have Skyped her, although I haven’t. If you’ve really tried and tried but don’t get replies, sometimes you just have to let go. Lots of people move in and out of Washington, D.C. It’s hard to stay in touch with people who move far away. Your other friends will understand what you’re going through, so talk to them about it. They will want to help. And if you’re going to look into Skype, ask your parents to help set up an account. I hope things get better. -- Abbey
