‘Bective Station’ 2684 Oxley Highway, Tamworth NSW 2340 Thursday 11 September 2025

INSPECTION: 1.00pm SALE: 3.00pm followed by food and drinks
Welcome to the inaugural Bective Station Wagyu Bull Sale.
For the very first time, we are excited to release the top tier of our Wagyu genetics to the general public. On offer is an exceptional team of bulls, each selected with a strong focus on both performance and phenotype. Every bull in this draft sits within the Top 20% for the Breeder Feeder Index (BFI) and the Top 20% for the F1 Terminal Index, with marbling EBVs ranging from 2.0 to 3.5 and an impressive average carcass EBV of 44kg - double the breed average.
These bulls have been bred from our herd of over 1,200 females, with a significant portion sourced from the renowned Morgan family at Condamine. This has allowed us to establish a cow herd with a strong focus on early growth and maternal traits such as Gestation Length and high Milk yield - characteristics we regard as vital for long-term success. The 41 bulls we have on offer have been selected from the Top 5% of our 2024 drop of calves.
At Bective Station Wagyu, the team understand that the way cattle are managed is just as important as their genetics. There is a deliberate focus on producing docile, easy to handle animals because a calm animal is a more productive and profitable one. The bulls in this sale reflect that philosophy.
This sale will be held in the historic Bective Station Shearing Shed, a building rich in heritage that reflects our ongoing commitment to quality and tradition.
As a token of our appreciation, our team are pleased to offer some sale day bonus prizes. Our volume buyer will receive a Bective Station Wagyu branded chopper bag, and the top-price buyer will be gifted a Bective Station Wagyu branded engraved Yeti water cooler.
Please feel free to reach out to arrange an inspection or to discuss which bulls may be best suited to your operations. Otherwise, we invite you to inspect this impressive draft of sale bulls at our Open Day on Friday 5th September, starting from 10am.
Thank you for your interest and support. Our team is here to help in any way we can, and we look forward to welcoming you to Bective Station. Wishing you all the best for the season ahead, and we hope you find a bull (or two) that suits your program.
Regards,
Nathan Morris

• Do not put pressure on bulls in the yards and do not enter yards or pens unless absolutely necessary
• If you need assistance with inspections, please ask any staff member or agent assisting with the sale

All bulls have had the following treatments:
• UltraVac 7in1
• CattleGuard
• Vibrovax
• Pestiguard
• Ultravac BEF (3-day sickness)
• Trivalent Tick Fever vaccine
All bulls have had 200 and 400-day weights and scrotal circumference measurements recorded.
All sale bulls will have an additional drench and vaccination ~10 days before sale day.
On 31 July 2025, the Bective Station Wagyu Sale Bulls were subjected to a crush side semen test and a morphology assessment in conjunction with QSML. All bulls had their scrotal circumference measured and were examined for reproductive and structural soundness. All bulls offered for sale have passed all elements relative to their age, of structural, motility and morphology testing.

‘Bective Station’ has been owned by just two families since it was first settled in the early 1800s prior to AAM’s purchase in 2022. ‘Bective Station’ is one of the original stations, along with ‘Goonoo Goonoo’, of the Tamworth district and is a well-known New South Wales property with a long and rich history. Initially, it was identified as the original location for a township with the property situated along the Peel River.
In accordance with the provisions of the Orders in Council, numerous fourteen-year pastoral leases were announced in The Government Gazette of 1848. Among the major pastoral leases was the ~60,000ha ‘Bubbogullion’. Robert Pringle was the lessee of Bubbogullion and had previously worked on the station since 1839.
During the 1850s Robert Pringle and his wife changed the name of ‘Bubbogullion’ to ‘Bective Station’ after a trip to the British Isles where they met the Countess of Bective. ‘Bective Station’ was established as a sheep property and by the early 1860s the land totalled 32,370ha (80,000acres) and had a grazing capacity of 100,000 sheep.

Robert Pringle passed away on 13 February 1875 at the age of 75, leaving ‘Bective Station’ to his estate. By 1884 the property land area had increased to 43,660ha (107,886 acres), of both leasehold and freehold land.
In 1890, James Swanton Vickery purchased ‘Bective Station’ from the Robert Pringle Estate. Subsequently, five generations of the Vickery family have owned and operated ‘Bective Station’ since it was purchased.
During the 132 years that the Vickery family owned ’Bective Station’, it was initially operated as a sheep property, with the construction of an impressive 44-stand shearing shed not far from the homestead in 1905.
Following this, the family gradually transitioned their enterprise away from sheep with the property becaming the home of one of the leading Hereford studs in Australasia, managed by James Fisken Vickery (son of James Swanton Vickery).
AAM purchased ‘Bective Station’ from the fifth generation of the family, Robert Vickery, in November 2022, and is now the home of the Bective Station Wagyu stud as the primary operation. The inaugural bull sale will take place in the 44-stand shearing shed, marking the start of an exciting new chapter for the historic property. ‘Bective Station’ is now home to AAM’s elite Wagyu seedstock operation as well as both commercial sheep and cattle. Today ‘Bective Station’ runs 1,200 Fullblood Wagyu cows, 1,000 commercial Angus cows (for F1 production), up to 2,000 prime lambs, and 2,000 trade and replacement cattle.
AAM is a privately owned, Australian agricultural investor and manager, proudly owned by its senior management team and their families.
Since 2007, AAM has focused its efforts on investing in Australia’s rural and regional food and fibre supply chains. Today AAM has large-scale investments in beef, lamb, poultry, cropping, and timber sectors as well as developing core agricultural infrastructure and investing directly in technology systems to support the broader livestock industry.
AAM focuses on delivering genuine sustainability outcomes and long-term value creation, to unlock value across all stages of the supply chain, from production through to wholesale distribution partners.
Uniquely, AAM’s investments have been 100% funded by domestic Australian investors promoting the virtues of investing directly in regional and rural Australia.

Bective Station Wagyu is built on a self-replacing Fullblood herd with a clear focus on breeding balanced, moderately framed cattle that offer strong fertility, efficient growth, and high-quality carcass traits. Our objective is to produce early to mid-maturing animals that are well-suited to commercial production systems while delivering premium beef outcomes through the supply chain.
To support selection decisions, we utilise the Breeder Feeder Index (BFI) a balanced Index developed specifically to assist in identifying the most profitable animals in a self-replacing herd. The BFI has been designed to drive post-weaning weight gain and Carcass Weight, while moderating Birth Weight extremes, encouraging positive emphasis on Milk yield and Scrotal Size, and applying a slight negative pressure on Mature Cow Weight to help maintain moderate frames. This focus also delivers a strong response for Marble Score, supporting our commitment to carcass quality.
All animals are subject to rigorous structural and phenotypic assessments to ensure they meet physical standards for soundness and functionality. Moderate framed cattle with correct structure, good temperament, and strong constitution are consistently selected to ensure longevity and adaptability within a range of production environments.
Our management team make use of leading reproductive and genomic technologies to
accelerate genetic gain. All females are joined via artificial insemination (AI) to ensure access to elite sires, and we run an annual embryo transfer (ET) program to multiply the best genetics within our herd. The MateSel application is used to guide matings, manage genomic inbreeding and maximise diversity while optimising breeding outcomes based on breeding values and genetic relationships.
Bective Station Wagyu is proud to be involved in the Australian Wagyu Association’s Progeny Test Program (PTP). Two sires from our herd, T0725 and V0671, have been nominated for the program, and we have also contributed females to support the ongoing development of data-driven, industry leading genetic evaluation. The Bective team are pleased to be a part of such a valuable program that not only helps improve the accuracy of our own breeding decisions, but also contributes to the broader advancement of the Wagyu breed.
The bulls in the sale have strong influences from some of Arubial’s highest performing bulls including bulls Q0256, S1051 and United. S1051 is the sire to Bective’s own V0671 who as mentioned above, is in the 2025 PTP sire cohort and has the lowest genomic inbreeding of the cohort. V0671 sits in the Top 1% for the BFI and Top 5% for both the F1 Terminal Index and the Fullblood Terminal Index, and we are excited about having him in the PTP to increase his accuracy as well as related animals.

An animal’s breeding value is its genetic merit, half of which will be passed on to its progeny. While we will never know the exact breeding value, it is possible to make good estimates based on the performance of the animal and its progeny. These are called Estimated Breeding Values (EBVs), and these are the best estimate of an animal’s genetic

An accuracy value is presented with every EBV and gives an indication of the amount of information that has been used in the calculation of that EBV. The higher the accuracy, the lower the likelihood of significant change in the animal’s EBV as more information is analysed for that animal or its relatives.
Less than 50% = low accuracy and should be considered a preliminary estimate. The EBV could change substantially as more performance information becomes available, however the EBV is still the best guide for genetic merit of the animal at that point.
50 - 74% = medium accuracy, usually based on the animal’s own performance records, genomics and pedigree.
75 - 90% = medium-high accuracy and also includes some progeny information. Becoming a more reliable indicator of the animal’s true value as a parent.
90% and above = high accuracy associated with a large amount of performance and progeny information.

Scrotal Size EBV (SS) (cm) an indicator of male fertility (semen quality and quantity) in Western breeds of cattle. Higher (positive) EBVs indicate higher fertility. There is also a small negative correlation (desirable) with the age of puberty and fertility in female progeny. The relationship between scrotal size and fertility in Wagyus is assumed, but not proven.
Gestation Length EBV (GL) (days) based on AI records. Lower (negative) GL EBVs indicate shorter gestation lengths which generally relate to lighter birth weights and easier calving.
Birth Weight EBV (BW) (kg) is based on the measured birth weight of animals, adjusted for dam age. The lower the value, the lighter the calf at birth and the lower the likelihood of a difficult birth. This is particularly important when selecting sires for use over heifers.

200-Day Milk EBV (MILK) (kg) is an estimate of an animal’s milking ability based on the calculated maternal input into the 200-day weight of a calf. For sires, this EBV is indicative of their daughter’s milking ability as it affects the 200-day weight of their calves.
200-Day Growth EBV (200) (kg) is calculated from the weight of animals taken between 80 and 300 days of age. Values are adjusted to 200 days and for dam age. This EBV is the best single estimate of an animal’s genetic merit for growth to early ages.
400-Day Weight EBV (400) (kg) is calculated from the weight of animals taken between 301 and 500 days of age, values are adjusted to 400 days and for dam age. This EBV is the best single estimate of an animal’s genetic merit for yearling weight.
600-Day Weight EBV (600) (kg) is calculated from the weight of animals taken between 501 and 900 days of age, values are adjusted to 600 days and for dam age. This EBV is the best single estimate of an animal’s genetic merit for growth beyond yearling age.
Mature Cow Weight EBV (MCW) (kg) is based on the weight of the cow when the calf is weighed for weaning, adjusted to five years of age. This EBV is an estimate of the genetic difference in cow weight at five years of age and is an indicator of growth at later ages and potential feed maintenance requirements of the females in the breeding herd. Breeders of steers wishing to grow animals out to a larger weight may also use the Mature Cow Weight EBV.

Carcass Weight EBV (CWt) (kg) is based on abattoir carcass records and live weight measurements (particularly 600 day weight) and is an indicator of the genetic differences in carcass weight at the industry average slaughter age of 990 days. Larger positive values are more favourable.
Eye Muscle Area EBV (EMA) (cm2) estimates genetic differences in eye muscle area at the 12/13th rib site of a 420kg dressed carcass. A higher positive EBV indicates larger eye muscle area and therefore higher retail beef yields. Ultrasound, AUSMeat and Japanese Digital Image Camera measured Eye Muscle Areas from slaughter animals contribute to this EBV.
Rump Fat EBV (RUMP) (mm) estimates the genetic differences in fat depth at the P8 site of a 420kg dressed carcass. A higher positive EBV indicates more subcutaneous fat and earlier maturity.
Retail Beef Yield Percent EBV (RBY) (%) estimates the genetic differences in total (boned out) meat yield as a percentage of a 420kg dressed carcass. A higher positive EBV indicates higher percentage yield for the 420kg carcass weight.
Marble Score EBV (MS) (AUSMeat Marble Score) is an estimate of the genetic difference in the AUSMeat Marble Score in a 420kg carcase. Marble Score EBV utilises AUSMeat Marble Score on a scale of 1 to 10 where 10 is equivalent to an AUSMeat Marble Score grading of 9+. Where results from the Meat Image Japan digital carcass camera are available, Camera Marbling Percentage and Marble Fineness are also used to calculate Marble Score EBV as the genetic correlations between these measures and AUSMeat Marble Score are very high. Larger positive values are more favourable.
Marble Fineness EBV (MF) (Marbling Fineness Index) estimates the genetic differences in the Marbling Fineness Index (degree of fineness of marbling fat) as measured by the Japanese Digital Image Camera. A higher more positive EBV indicates higher levels of marbling fineness.

Selection $Indexes, which utilise Wagyu BREEDPLAN EBVs, are available and allow selection of Wagyu seedstock based on profitability for different commercial production systems. Three Wagyu Selection $Indexes have been developed to date:
• Breeder Feeder Index (BFI)
• Wagyu Fullblood Terminal $Index (FTI)
• Wagyu F1 Terminal $Index (F1I)
Each of the $Indexes are targeted specifically to a defined Wagyu production and market scenario and producers should identify and use the index that best suits their purpose.
Selection $Indexes target economic breeding objectives based on average herd and market conditions and have generally targeted the main markets within the production systems, combining genetic information within BREEDPLAN into one EBV for each $Index that considers production costs and realised value.
The AWA implemented the Wagyu Breeder Feeder Index (BFI) in February 2024. This is a new, balanced selection index, aimed at assisting Wagyu breeders to select the most profitable animals in a self-replacing herd, whilst better managing birth weight, milk production, and mature cow weight.
Benefits of the Breeder Feeder Index:
• Promotes a high growth response, especially for post-weaning weight gain and carcass weight
• Reduces the number of high ranking extreme high and low Birth Weight EBV sires
• Delivers positive emphasis for Milk and Scrotal Size
• Applies a slight negative emphasis on high Mature Cow Weight while strongly positively emphasising carcass weight
• Provides a high selection response for Marble Score
The original parameter set defined for Fullblood Wagyu slaughter cattle was implemented in 2018. New parameters used in 2024 for Fullblood Wagyu Selection Indexes have been updated to reflect heavier entry weights (high growth calves) with shorter days on feed and equivalent feeding regimes and slaughter age.
Benefits of the Fullblood Terminal Index:
• Produces a higher early growth response by shifting its emphasis from 600 to 400-day EBVs
• Places direct positive pressure on Carcass Weight
• Delivers a high response for Marble Score and Eye Muscle Area
• Results in more negative response (less) Rump Fat
• Results in a slight increased response for Retail Meat Yield
The original parameter set defined for F1 Terminal Index was defined in 2018, new parameters used in 2024 for F1 Wagyu Selection Indexes have been updated to reflect heavier entry weights (high growth calves) with shorter days on feed and equivalent feeding regimes and slaughter age.
Benefits of the F1 Terminal Index:
• Includes weighting of the CWT EBV directly
• Places moderate pressure on lower birth weight, considering most females used for terminal carcass progeny production would not be heifers
• Maintains high pressure on Eye Muscle Area and Marble Score
• Focuses more on increasing weight gain in early life
