On behalf of the American Advertising Federation of Toledo, I would like to congratulate all of the 2020 ADDY Award winners and entrants! We are honored to recognize and showcase Northwest Ohio’s best creative talent in a wide variety of advertising, marketing, and public relations categories at the historic Valentine Theatre. The competition doesn’t end tonight! The Toledo ADDY Awards are the first phase of a three-tier, national competition. Tonight’s Gold winning entries will compete in one of 15 district competitions. District ADDY award winners will then move on to the third tier; the national stage of the American Advertising Awards. We literally would not be able to put on this show without the donation of time and resources from our local advertising community. A very special thank you to Madhouse for partnering with us to design and deliver the creative for this year’s call for entries and ADDY Awards show. Another big thank you goes out to HOT Graphics for printing the gorgeous invitations and tickets, Off Contact for printing the banners, and my teammates at Mail Works for printing this winners’ booklet. On January 10, we received 160 professional and 24 student entries from agencies, businesses, and individuals in the Toledo-area market. Our judges then traveled to Toledo on January 17 to evaluate each entry. This three -member judging panel of advertising experts selected the award winners that will be featured tonight. Congratulations to Mark Reiter on taking home the most prestigious award of the evening, the Silver Medal Award. This award recognizes Mark’s outstanding contributions while furthering the industry’s standards, creative excellence, and responsibility in areas of social concern. Another congratulations to all of tonight’s winners and best of luck to those of you whose work will go on to represent AAF Toledo in the district competition! Melanie Dunn 2019-2020 AAF Toledo President Creative Director, Mail Works II Owner, Cuttlefish Graphics

ABOUT THE AWARD

The American Advertising Awards (ADDYs), is the advertising industry’s largest and most representative competition, attracting over 40,000 entries every year in local AAF Club (AdClub) competitions. The mission of the American Advertising Awards competition is to recognize and reward the creative spirit of excellence in the art of advertising. Conducted annually by the American Advertising Federation (AAF), the local AdClub phase is the first of a three-tier, national competition. Concurrently, all across the country, local entrants vie to win ADDY Awards–recognition as the very best in their markets. At the second tier, local ADDY winners compete against winners from other local clubs in one of 15 district competitions. District ADDY winners are then forwarded to the third tier, the national stage of the American Advertising Awards. Entry in your local AdClub competition is the first step toward winning a national ADDY. Entering the American Advertising Awards supports the entire advertising industry, because the AAF and its local and district affiliates use the proceeds to enhance advertising through programs such as public service, internships, advocacy groups, advertising education, and consumer awareness. Selection of the most creative entry in a category is affected by a scoring process in which a panel of judges evaluates all creative dimensions of every entry. A Gold ADDY is recognition of the highest level of creative excellence and is judged to be superior to all other entries.

SI LVER MEDA L AWARD

The American Advertising Federation’s Silver Medal Award Program was established in 1959 to recognize men and women who have made outstanding contributions to advertising and who have been active in furthering the industry’s standards, creative excellence and responsibility in areas of social concern. Annually, AAF member clubs bestow this honor upon outstanding members of the local advertising community. For many local clubs, awarding the AAF Silver Medal is the highlight of their year. It enhances the image of advertising by recognizing a locally well-known person for their advertising and community involvement. Candidates are nominated by AAF Toledo members and the recipient is selected by a panel of judges made up of the three previous winners. Criteria

Silver Medal recipients are selected by a panel of judges from each local club made up of the three previous winners. Contribution to His/Her Company

The recipient must have achieved success in one of the following areas of work: advertising agency, advertiser, media or advertising service. Creative Ability

The recipient must have shown a consistent, high degree of original thinking in their field. Contributions to the General Advancement of Advertising

The recipient must have worked to increase the stature and raise the standards of the advertising profession. Contributions to the Community

The recipient should be someone who has been active in civic, religious, or other groups dedicated to human or social welfare.
