1. What is „Digital Copy“? •

Convenience for the consumer

Digital Copy provides improved convenience for the consumer and enables more independence and flexibility, in regard to where a purchased movie can be viewed. So the user can copy with one click the movie onto his computer or a portable device. Digital Copy means that in addition to regular BD or DVD Video content, DRM-encrypted and unprotected video files are stored in the ROM section of the disc or on a download server. (optionally)

One-click activation using Postscribed ID™

The user obtains the DRM license through automated communication between the disc (unique serialization code, automatically read by the application) and the authentication server. It is not necessary to enter any serial code manually. The file is then authenticated and unlocked via an online transaction. The file can only be played on the authorized PC or another authorized device. •

Flexible and controlled number of downloads

When the disc is inserted into a PC, a menu screen (DVD ROM) appears and guides the consumer through the file transfer from the disc to the computer. The number of allowed movie activations is limited according to the client’s specification (e.g. the disc allows the user to activate the DRM protected movie file 3 times). Once the movie is activated and transferred to the computer, it can be watched as often as the user wants. Optionally the user can transfer a low-resolution version to his mobile device with USB mass storage function, which will be automatically detected by the program. •

Preventing piracy by using DRM protection

Digital Copy means that a DRM-protected file is delivered to the consumer. A Windows Media License server, hosted by Sony DADC, issues an individual license to unlock the DRM-protected content. If the video file itself is copied to another device, the video cannot be played, due to the missing DRM key. Support of other DRM formats than Windows Media require license-owner related agreements, but are possible from a technical point of view. If you wish to include additional DRM protected files, please contact us for a more detailed specification.

2. Supported platform and devices • • • • •

Digital Copy supports PC or notebook with Windows XP SP2 (Home/Professional/Media Center Edition) or later Windows versions. The application requires Internet Explorer 6.0 SP1 or later. An internet connection (accessible via Internet Explorer) is required, in order to download the DRM key. In the standard option, the video file will be copied from the disc, therefore a broadband internet connection is not necessary. To be able to play back the protected *.WMV file correctly, we recommend Windows Media Player v10 or higher. At least 1,5 GB on your hard drive and 500 MB on your mobile device storage

Video and DRM formats Digital Copy supports the following devices and their respective video and DRM formats: Playback device PC Portable Media Player

Portable devices Digital Copy movies use standard video format parameters for Windows Media and H.264/AAC encoding. Most – if not all – portable devices which offer video playback will be able to playback Digital Copy files. Sony DADC has explicitly tested and approved the following, widespread devices. If a device is not listed here, it is still very likely that it will playback Digital Copy. Blackberry Bold 9700 Blackberry Bold 9000 Blackberry Curve 8520 Blackberry Storm 9500 HTC Magic HTC Touch iPhone 3G iPhone 3Gs iPod Classic Nokia 5230 Nokia 6303

Sony DADC is continuously expanding the set of tested devices.

3. Implementation of Digital Copy We require two different kinds of input: • Marketing / text input: Wording for user interface (template available) in local language(s) 1 Links to external URLs if desired Banners to be embedded •

Authoring / file input: o Authoring made by DADC If the authoring is done by Sony DADC, the workflows are synchronized internally and the encoded video files, as well as design files, are used from the Authoring project. o Authoring made by external supplier If you work together with another authoring facility, please use the checklist on the last page, to make sure the input meets our specifications.

4. Customize your Digital copy You can choose how often you want your customer to download the films onto his PC. One license can be used for one PC – that means if you decide to allow two downloads, the customer can download his digital copy onto two different PCs. In case you have DVD video content on the same disc as the digital copy, it is possible to insert a “play video content” button into the Digital Copy menu screen. You can also have more than one Digital Copy on your disc: you can choose between different languages for one film or even different films on one disc. (Please check chapter 9b) for maximum disc size) In order to use a recognition factor for a high quality PC download, you have the possibility to integrate the official Digital Copy Logo (copyright by DEG - Digital Entertainment Group) onto your disc label or your artwork. Please refer to chapter 9f for more detailed information. Standard turnaround time for a Digital Copy project is 10 workdays after all inputs have been provided and depends on exact configuration (number of video streams, menu languages).

5. Serialization of discs with Postscribed ID™ Postscribed ID ™ enables individual serialization and identification of DVD-Video/ROM discs. The disc surface is modified to embed the ID data. Our browser-based client interface reads out the PID information on the discs and forwards it to the authentication server, to manage the rights per disc for DRM download. This technology makes serialization of the artwork redundant and enables one-click file transfer.

Postscribed ID™ is only available for 12cm DVDs. DVD-5 and DVD-9 are supported.

1

The Digital Copy application is multilanguage-enabled, so you may have more menu languages. Please ask for our wording template to customize the texts for your release..

6. How much disc space is required to add Digital Copy files? • • •

Approx. 1 GB per WMV video file (depending on runtime and number of supported languages) and 400 MB for the H.264/AAC video file. 15 MB for the application Postscribed ID track (see section 5 for exact space required per disc type)

7. Copy Protection of DVD Video part with ARccOS™ Digital Copy is a ROM application and the DRM protection only affects the ROM video content. Therefore we recommend to protect the DVD Video section as well with ARccOS™. Please ask for our detailed ARccOS™ input specifications and learn more about required disc space in the checklist.

8. Statistics and real-time monitoring The authentication server tracks the application usage. The online statistics, accessible through a secure login, provide the following indicators: timeline monitoring, unique users, DRM licenses issued, response rate, geo marketing, data export, custom evaluations, web statistics. For custom evaluations and survey integration, please contact your project manager.

DVD Video Data preparation If the DVD Video Authoring is done within Sony DADC, you only need to approve the application and everything else will be taken care of by the project manager. If the DVD Video Authoring is done with Sony DADC, the DVD ROM session will be added during the master creation process to the DLT / DDP image. In case the DVD Video Authoring is not done within Sony DADC, your authoring facility receives from us the final ROM part and adds this data to the DVD Video master prior to creating the DLT / DDP images. This avoids modifying your data and/or the layer break. If the DVD master have a parallel track path (PTP) the DVD master will be converted to an opposite track path (OTP).

9. Disc Space Allocation – disc with Digital Copy and PID Required free disc space for Digital Copy + PID in MegaBits: Please note that no file must be larger than 2GB (ISO UDF Image specifications) and the MP4H.264/AAC file is included (optionally +/- 500 MB).

Due to the complexity and fast changing nature of portable device technology, Sony DADC recommends that you have Sony DADC encoding the MP4 file from your original video source (e.g. from an MPEG-2 file). This goes in line with Sony DADC’s continuous efforts to ensure proper playback on a large variety of portable devices.
