Election Nominee Bio’s President Keith Lutz I started in ballooning as many of us do as a crew member and soon caught the flying bug. I received my Private LTA certificate in 2012 and my Commercial LTA certificate in 2013 which I use to teach local students. As a pilot I enjoy all aspects of ballooning. I fly for fun at AAAA events and on the Westside. I fly competition including finishing 4th in 2015 in the Top Gun standings and 58th overall in the BFA National Eligibility List. I support AIBF by flying the Gildan NM Bowl banner, flying sponsors, and participating in the pre-dawn Krispy Kreme glow. I participate in numerous rallies in the greater NM area, sharing AAAA best practices and bring back great new ideas, flying tether and sponsor rides, and promoting the sport of ballooning. I work closely with the FAA at the ABQ FSDO on behalf of both AAAA and Top Gun, and have also submitted waivers for other ballooning events. I work with the Special Events committee to plan and deliver the Jingle Bell and Friends & Lovers events. With my wife Michelle I have worked with the Ways & Means committee to organize Happy Hours, fund raising and membership drives. With Crew-D we incorporated the annual Crew of the Year into the annual awards banquet. If selected to serve as AAAA President I will bring my extensive non-profit board service to the role. I am completing my second term on the board of AAAA as the Flying Events director where pilot participation has increased to almost 150 different pilots in 2015, we consistently hold highly successful and safe monthly flying events that are larger than most balloon rallies, we have established monthly community partnerships, and each January we hold a much anticipated awards banquet. In addition to AAAA, I recently completed my second term as President of Top Gun where I also served as the Event Organizer for the Rio Grande Classic, where corporate sponsorship and pilot attendance increased, the event expanded to include the Southwest Regional Championship, and it attracted top national and international pilots. I am also completing my second term on the board of directors of Quality New Mexico, the state’s non-profit quality organization where I lead strategic planning and represent the non-profit sector statewide. I have also served as Treasurer of the non-profit Albuquerque Software Process Improvement Network. I am taking a hiatus from my other board service to allow me to prioritize my time and energy on the role of AAAA President. If elected AAAA President I will continue to build on the involvement of both pilots and crews through flying events, education, community, and social aspects of our flying events. I will strive to increase the participation, safety and the enjoyment of all our members and build successful partnerships and relationships with the community. I will continue to build our crew & pilot development pipeline, and to have a continuous focus on good landowner relations, including working with the Parks & Rec departments of the City of Albuquerque Parks, Rio Rancho, and Corrales and with AIBF to determine how best to balance the enjoyment of our sport with the concerns of the people that live in the communities where we fly. AAAA is the largest single site ballooning organization in the world and I believe I bring the skills, experience, professionalism and focus to the role of President that are needed to continue to enhance its influence and effectiveness in promoting the sport of ballooning.

Election Nominee Bio’s Education Don Boyer I had my first balloon ride in 1985, was immediately hooked and joined the crew. I earned both my private and commercial ratings in 1990. I started working as a flight instructor with World Balloon Flight School in 1994 until they closed. I then joined Airborne Heat Flight School and I am currently an Assistant Chief Flight Instructor for this FAA part 141 certified flight school. I have been a member of the AAAA Education Committee since 2009 and have been an instructor and/or proctor for the annual ground schools and have assisted in organizing the annual Fiesta safety seminars. Crew Development Larry Kaibetoney I grew up on my grandparent’s ranch on the Navajo Reservation where I thought living without the convenience of running water and electricity was the norm. I joined the US Army right after high school. In the Army, I was a Firefinder Radar Technician and I loved what I did. I met my lovely wife Chani in July of 1998, and we married in November of that same year. I was deployed to Mosul, Iraq in 2004. On December 21st, I was very seriously wounded by a suicide bomber for which I was awarded the Purple Heart Medal. The injuries I sustained led to my eventual medical retirement in 2008. At that point, my wife and I moved back to our home state of New Mexico, where our transition from military to civilian life faced many complications. My retirement was a paperwork disaster, leading to our being homeless for a year. Our experience has made us passionate about helping veterans navigate life after the military and spreading awareness about PTSD. We had a long and sometimes very challenging journey, but we have stayed positive and faced every obstacle head on. Making sure others don’t face our same hardships makes our journey worth it. We settled in Edgewood in 2010. What started out with a couple of Pomeranians has grown into “The Kaibetoney Zoo”. We now have several dogs, chickens, dwarf goats, and llamas. Spending time with our animals is the best therapy there is! I was introduced to ballooning by my wife in 1998. I have been privileged to crew with several different pilots, and I enjoy learning new things from everyone I work with. I have been a member of AAAA for a few years, and in the last year I have served on the Special Events Committee. I would love to share my passion for ballooning and feel that Crew Development is a great place to start. My life experiences have taught me that determination, hard work, a positive attitude, and outside the box thinking can resolve any issue. I appreciate your vote consideration.

Flying Events Tim Martin In my everyday job I work as an Attorney with the Federal Government. I had the pleasure of serving in the US Navy and retired as Chief Petty Officer. I moved to Albuquerque in July 2008 and started crewing in early 2009. Starting with the 2010 Balloon Fiesta I became a Launch Director (Zebra) and have served in that position in each Fiesta since. In September 2014 I earned my pilot certificate and currently fly my balloon, MahNa MahNa, on a regular basis. I am working on building a small solo 42k balloon, have finished weaving the basket, and currently working on the envelope. I have been a Flying Events Committee member for the last two years and would be proud to serve as the committee chairperson.
