Crew Development:

Community Relations: I have two new requests this month. Contact: Gabriel C. Perez 512-626-3549 or gabrielcperez.com He is a photographer based out of Austin, TX but splits his time in Albuquerque as well. He is producing a story for AARP on senior hot air balloon enthusiasts/riders/first timers etc. The story would be a photo essay (about 8-12 images) featuring seniors (age 50+) experiencing hot air ballooning. The theme of the project would simply be sharing stories of age 50+ folks breaking stereotypes on aging and pursuing passions. If interested please contact Gabriel Perez. Contact: Margaret Barker, Reading Works (505) 321-9620 or www.reading-works.org She is requesting a donation for a hot air balloon ride for two to support adult literacy at their annual auction, "Luncheon for Literacy", on March 13th. The Hotel Albuquerque in Old Town will be hosting this event. Auction donors will receive publicity on their website prior to this event and at the event.

There is still time to run for a seat on the 2016 Board of Directors. Serving on the board is a great way to directly make a difference in the quality of our club, as well as have the opportunity to meet lots of new people and have a lot of fun. Members of the board are elected to two year terms with half of the seats up for election each year. This spring we will be voting for the president, treasurer, education, flying events, and crew development board seats. If you would like more information about the responsibilities of any of these you can consult the bylaws and operating rules on the AAAA web site at http://www.hotairballooning.org/index.ph p?page=officers-board, then clicking on the links for those documents on the left side of the page. You can also ask Diana Gilson or anyone else on the nominations committee or ask the people who currently serve or previously served on the board to get their feedback on what is involved.

You hear me talk frequently about how our club is the best anywhere and is able to put on all of the events and classes that we do through the efforts of all of our members who volunteer to help. Each year we like to recognize some of our members who stood out for their exceptional contributions with the Bob Ruppenthal Education Award, the Allan Jones Volunteer Award, and the "Slim" Rawley Crew Award. You can find details for the qualifications for each award on our web site at http://www.hotairballooning.org/index.ph p?page=history-awards. If you have someone in mind for any of these, please send your nomination to me at president@hotairballooning.org or to any of the members of the board and they will see that I get it. The board will select this year’s honorees and the awards will be presented at the March general meeting. I’ll see you on the launch field. Safe landings! Craig
