Special Events –We will be having a Chili con Carne (Tex-Mex) Chili Cook off at the Jingle Bell Rally. Rules and regulations will be posted in the Cloudbouncer. Education – Everything is going good for the Fiesta Safety Seminar.

AAAA Board Meeting Minutes September 17, 2012 Meeting was called to order by President Mike Garcia at 6:00pm Membe rs in Attendance - Mike Garcia, Peter Cuneo, Diana Rutz, Dick Rice, Jennifer Greenwood, Keith Lutz, Craig Pendleton, Mike Gonzales, Colleen Johnson, Tom Fisher Secretary report – New members presented for board approval. Dick motioned to approve new members Peter seconded the motion and new members are approved. Jill Klann of Las Cruces NM, Bruce Wood of Carbondale CO, Bobby Glover of Albuquerque NM, Shannon Banks address not provided Debby Molina of Albuquerque NM, Glen Campbell of Lorenzo TX, Jeffery Ashworth and Family of Corrales NM.

Treasurer’s report – Dick has emailed the financial statements to the board any questions or concerns just give Dick a call.

Vice President’s report – The September meeting we will be viewing the 2013 Fiesta Pilots video. Pilots can also view online with a test after viewing. Peter is working on a speaker for the October meeting.

Crew Development- We have finished all the prep work for the CPR class. All registration information will be in the Cloudbouncer as well as at September’s general meeting. Craig presented a motion to add $150.00 to the crew development budget to cover cost of printing a insert for the volunteer crew packs for the 2012 AIBF. After discussion on this matter Keith seconded the motion and the board approved by vote. Craig is also in discussions with AIBF for further joint crew seminars. Ways and Means – The happy hours continue to be a huge success, we however at the last happy hour only received three new members. October 2nd and Oct 30th will be the next happy hours. Information will be in the Cloudbouncer and at the September general meeting. Community Relations – Jennifer has received a request for donations of a balloon ride for use in raffles. The request was from the manger of the Body Shop Center all proceeds for the raffle will go to the Animal Humane Society. Please contact Jennifer if you are interested in donation a ride. Flying Events – Thanks to all the volunteers for the August flying event, we are still in need of help for future events. If you wish to volunteer to help out with the Flying Events committee please contact Keith

Old Business – No old business discussed. )ew Business – Motion was presented to send a condolence card to Beth’s family, Beth worked at IMC and recently passed away after battling cancer. Colleen seconded the motion board voted and motion passed.


October’s general meeting speaker will be Don Edwards fiesta wrap-up.

There will be no flying event in October. The next flying event will be on November 10 at the Rio Rancho Field.

AAAA General Meeting Minutes September 25, 2012

There are still 100 spots left for pilots and crew to register for the 2012 Fiesta safety seminar. Committee is working in conjunction with BFA for the online safety seminar on January 20th.

Treasurers Report Dick discussed the treasures report that will be in the Cloudbouncer.

Black out curtains will be provided by Balloon Museum Foundation. Registration numbers are looking very good. BFA Safety Seminar will be in ABQ at Fiesta Office on January 26, 2012. BFA to do and pay for all technical aspect of filming the seminar and getting it on the web through Aero news. BFA is going to take on line registrations and keep that money. AAAA will take registrations for those attending in person, and keep that money. AAAA is lining up speakers and topics. AAAA’s Education committee is happy to say that all planning for the Fiesta Safety Seminar is complete. We expect final drafts from presenters within the two weeks. The room is limited to 232 people per fire department. It has been suggested to allow 220 people attend the seminar.


With us having the seminar at the Balloon Museum we can use a 80 “TV and two 40 “TV’s. All of the cabling and setup will be provided by Sam, the computer support person via the Balloon Museum Foundation. Our room layout was submitted to Linda Huberly of the Balloon museum. CPR and First Aid is open for registration, registrations forms are available at tonight’s meeting as well as on the website. Craig presented the insert that Crew development has placed in the volunteer crew packs for the 2012 AIBF. The Crew Development CPR/First Aid seminar is November 17 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at AIBF office. Look for registration forms at AAAA flying events and the general meeting or email crewdev@hotairballooning.org.

. Jennifer had had a couple requests for donations for a balloon ride one will benefit the Animal Humane and the second will benefit the domestic violence shelter please contact Jennifer for more information. The Body Shop in Coronado Center takes great pride in doing community work and one of their community projects is to raise money for the Albuquerque Humane Society. They will be holding a raffle and would like to have a balloon ride as the grand prize. The second and third prize will be gift baskets of their product. They would appreciate it if someone would donate a balloon ride for their raffle. Again, all proceeds will be going to the Albuquerque Animal Human Society. If you are interested please contact me. The Barrett House Foundation, a wonderful organization that assists homeless women and children, would like a donation for a balloon ride to auction off at their annual fundraising event. If you are interested please contact me.

Due to long flights and retrievals we were forced to reschedule September's post flying event mini-seminar demonstrating a Cameron balloon system. Thank you to Dale and Kat Pattyn for volunteering their time and balloon. We will continue our balloon system demo series at our next miniseminar. We will not hold a Crew D committee meeting in October due to schedule conflict with Balloon Fiesta.


Michelle announced the two happy hours for October that will be on the 2nd and the 30th at the Albuquerque Press Club. We will be having a prize drawing and each member will get one ticket and if you sign a new member up you will get extra tickets. The press club will be providing bbq as usual and donations to cover the cost are appreciated and all excess monies will be given to the club. We have cozies and pins for sell at the back of the room as well as at the flying events. Ways & Means report for the board meeting:

AAIBM- The dirt pit is being renovated by the city. Just before fiesta the grass will be seeded and balloons will be unable to land there. Do you have a balloon basket in good shape that you won’t be using during Balloon Fiesta? If so, would you consider letting a Balloon Fiesta Sponsor use it? They would like to take photos of people in the basket with the launch field as the back drop. Please contact Laurie at 505-821-1000 if you would like to help us out.

Carol Bair has requested our help. She is in need of two people to work during Fiesta. Early mornings, to help with heavy lifting, and making waffles.

Last month’s Happy Hour brought in $30 and 3 new members signed up for 1/2 price membership. Our next 2 Happy Hours are Tuesday October 2nd, Tuesday October 30th. Don't forget to purchase AAAA Koozies. Can Koozies are on sale for $2. What a great gift for your crews for Fiesta! Bottle Koozies are $4, buy them while supplies last, we only have a few left.

September Event:

. Colleen announced the Tex-Mex Chili cook off that will be held during the Jingle Bell rally. The Fiesta on the green has been reserved so we will have indoor area for tailgate. We are beginning preparations for Friends and Lovers.

BFA- No report FAA- Will be conducting mini seminar on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.

The September Flying Event was held Sunday, September 9th at Balloon Fiesta Park. 30 pilots registered and 10 pilots attempted the single competition task. Results: 1st Place Lori Pittman – 25’ 7”. 2nd Place Greg Garcia – 33’ 2”.

VFRS- No Report 3rd Place Ray Bair – 35’ 3”.

Fellow MembersIt is here…Yes, Balloon Fiesta. We all look forward to this time of year… it is like our reunion of sorts. We see fellow pilots and crew from all over the country and world. For those of you who couldn’t join us, hopefully all of the pictures on the social media will keep you with us. For those of you who will be joining us during Balloon Fiesta, welcome. We hope that you are taking part of the Education Committee’s Safety seminar. In case you didn’t know the day, Tuesday, October 9th. This year they have been working hard to bring it to a centralized location, the Balloon Museum. We have recently moved our general meetings to the museum and have found it to be a great site. Top Gun had 10 participating pilots on September 16th. Mark Trillanes was the Event Director calling three challenging tasks. Congratulations to Ray Bair, September Top Gun Champion. Second place going to Mark Trillanes, tying for third place is Neil Jackson and Mark Sullivan. Top Gun would like to welcome two new pilots, Craig Pendelton and Jeff Ashworth. VISTA DEL NORTE P&R has fenced the Vista del Norte property to control access. Questions have come up about access for balloon landing/ launching and possible neighborhood access. To allow landings and launchings we are going to use a similar locking approach as during the Balloon Fiesta. P&R will install
