FEBRUARY PRESIDENT’S CORNER By Debbie Fowler
That’s all for now, gotta go make my F&L Baggie. See you soon, Deb Fowler email@example.com 239-1146
Hi Everybody, Happy Valentines Day to each and every one of you!! I’m looking forward to our annual Friends and Lovers Rally. There is a rumor that there are going to be exciting events taking place both at registration and the event itself… Read on in this Cloudbouncer for more details.
GENERAL MEETING MINUTES January 22, 2008 By Kay Sant
This month is our first Cloudbouncer that will not be bulk mailed. If you don’t have access to a computer, we will be mailing the Cloudbouncer to you via first class mail. If you want BOTH the e-version and the printed version you will be charged an extra $15.00. I explain this again because there still seems to be some confusion. You only owe the additional $15.00 if you want Both the e-version and the print version. If you have any questions, please call me and I’ll be happy to explain. I want to remind you that mailing the bulk edition costs between $4,000 and $6,000 per year. The printed version, via first class, to only those that do not have access to a computer will cost between $1,800 and $2,000 per year. As you can see this is a tremendous savings.
President Debbie Fowler called the meeting to order at 7:00pm. Guests: Kim and Bob (sorry I didn’t get last names) Program: John Ninomiya was the guest speaker. He explained Cluster Ballooning. If you were not here you missed a really great program. President: Debbie gave out Thank You Awards to Jonathan Abdalla, Pat Dalen, Sam Bradshaw, Phyllis and Harold Jackson for all the work they have done getting the Cloudbouncer out.
This month we say a BIG THANK YOU to Harold and Phyllis Jackson, Pat Dalen, Sam Bradshaw and Jonathan Abdalla. These are the folks that have been in charge of creating and mailing your Cloudbouncer for the last several years. As we move to our new Cloudbouncer Editor, Lori Pitman, and new first class mailing, a few things will be changing. The goal of all of the coming changes is to make your Cloudbouncer a better and more efficient newsletter. One of the things that we’ll be changing is the way ads are submitted and paid for. Since the print version Cloudbouncer will be going first class, ads that were not included before now will be included.
Nominating Committee: Ray Bair presented the tentative list of candidates for the coming election. President: Debbie Fowler was nominated from the floor for President. Treasure: Lyn Kirkwood, Dick Rice and Sam Bradshaw Education: Gary Jantz, Bud Herbrlee and Tom Fisher Flying Events: Lichele Peete and John Hofer Crew Development: Garry Haruska (I think there a lot of members out there who could step up and run for an office to help our club grow and become the very best.) Give Ray a call, 2963505, and let him know what you would like to do.
So, all I can tell you is to look for information here, in the Cloudbouncer, on the web site and at our monthly meetings. We’re working hard to get the media coordinated and on the same page, so to speak. If you have any suggestions, please let me,

CREW D REPORT We are working on a variety of things to make the Friends and Lovers Rally Cupid’s BEST EVER!!!
If you look carefully throughout this Cloud bouncer, you will find a coupon(s) which may be the deciding factor in the Scavenger Hunt that Cupid is Compiling for the Friends and Lovers Rally. This will be worth bonus points, and may separate the winners.
The scavenger hunt will Commence, Crew Competitions will be created, and Cupid will be Carousing among the Crews…so plan on having a Cupidalicious time. See yah there!!
If you were at the January AAAA meeting, you received a major clue as to who might be a Companion of Cupid during the Friends and Lovers weekend. We have identified four of them so far and if you find all four you will get BONUS POINTS!!!
You will have to ask them “Are you Cupid’s Companion?” and if you’ve correctly connected with your Cupidly connection, you’ll be given a redeemable item. Be sure to ask everyone and ask often.
Hope all had a wonderful holiday and a Happy New Year!!! I would like to thank all the pilots that gave their time to fly for the many events this past year. It is greatly appreciated.
Also, be sure to start working on your crew and pilot scoring devices for this rally. Pilots are reminded that in order for their score to count, the crew has to compete too.
Starting this month, you will find a form to be used for all Cloudbouncer classified ads. If you would like to summit a classified ad to the Cloudbouncer, simply fill out the form, include your payment, and mail it in. The due date is the 20th of each month. Hopefully this will make it easier to place classified ads.
We will have a sheet of rules in the Crew Registration pack, so look forward to following the rules or plan on bending them slightly…we are out there to have fun!!!
If you wish to place a display ad, please circle the size of ad you would like, include your payment, and artwork. The due date is the 20th of each month.
SuperiAire Technologies has donated the First Place Crew Competition Cooler and we will have wonderful prizes for second and third as well. There will be prizes for Creative Cheating as well!!!
JANUARY FLYING EVENTS
We will have a scoring device decorating competition too. Prizes will be awarded for 3 different categories:
By Lichele Peete For the January Flying event we had 33 pilots sign in and only five balloons decided to launch and try for one of the two targets. The three pilots that were able to score were Jim Ahern in 1st place, Tom Gardner in 2nd place and Murray Conrad in 3rd.
A. Best Cupidaciousness (Valentines/Cupid theme related) B. Most Creative (pilot and crew similarity) C. Judge’s favorite
It was announced at briefing that if you need to call the FAA Tower before 8am and after 5pm there is a new phone number to contact (505) 856-4935. The Flying Events committee has decided to change the point system with regard to scoring at an event. If a pilot is able to score on a target they will get participation/show-up points in addition to their score. This decision was made to encourage members to try and score on the target and get higher in the points ranking for the Top 20 Awards.
Just a reminder…this is the fun part…and you have plenty of time to get ready...Cupid is depending on you!!! We will have a Crew competition Friday evening for the registration party with prizes that night…something very creative like “How many words can you make from the word (Valentine)”…we will be limiting it to the English language, however we can be bribed…
The committee will also be revising the scoring rules and as soon as that is done, they will be published in the Cloudbouncer and published on the AAAA website.
Board of Directors, P.O. Box 90160, Albuquerque, NM 87199-0160 These nominations can also be e-mailed to the AAAA Secretary. Justkay43@msn.com

BYE-BYE AIR BEARS! By Kathy Smith Over the past year, literally dozens of generous, often creative balloonists have sponsored Air Bears for the children at Carrie-Tingley Hospital. Some 150 Air Bears have been delivered to the Hospital, along with photos of the bears’ balloon flights, balloon pins, flight certificates and special greeting cards, telling the children the Air Bears’ story.
Adding to the top 3 places the winner will receive a gift certificate to a balloon repair station. The Flying events committee purchased $50.00 Gift Certificates from Aerco, Braden’s and SuperiAire. Jim Ahern came in 3rd place and participated in 9 events, scored 4 times and had a grand total of 6164 points and received a beautiful plaque, Box of Chocolates, Hickory Farms Summer Sausage, $20.00 Certificate to Weck’s, Gift certificate to Ortega’s Propane for $20.00, $50.00 Gift Certificate to
The AAAA bears took flight at many club-sponsored events, Fiesta and out-of town rallies. A few lucky bears floated above the scenic terrain in other states, as well. Nine bears even took flight in Canada! Several bears were sponsored by our balloon-
ing buddies in other states, and were then shipped back to Albuquerque. Many AAAA members even donated stuffed bears of their own.

Several Air Bears were treated to additional adventures that included trips and activities far beyond our typical balloon outings. All these events were captured in photos that were passed along to the kids. A few balloon teams assembled complete photo albums and story books of their Air Bears’ adventures. Others adorned their bears in everything from flight suits to Santa hats, embroidered ball caps, and even a Viking helmet. A few especially lucky children received Air Bears bearing additional gifts. You folks are amazing! Balloonists have now donated an entire year’s supply of Air Bears to the Carrie-Tingley kids, giving the little patients something to hug--and lots to dream about. As we begin a new year, our Air Bear program has now “run its course.” Thanks to each and every one of you who sponsored a bear—and those of you who sponsored many of them—bringing untold joy and long-term memories to some very special children. They, their families and the staff at Carrie-Tingley Hospital will long remember the kindness of balloonists and the unique gifts they received from us.

Dear Ballooning Friends of Steve Early "da pilot": If you don't know, Steve had another passion and that was riding his Harley with Jenny. The Turquoise Trail Chapter of the Harley Owner's Group have come up with a Memorial patch in his honor. It’s made in the colors of his Harley silver and burgundy. We have sewn them on our motorcycle vests in his memory and I would like to know if you'd like to do the same on your ballooning jackets. We are asking for a donation of $10 and that will help cover the costs of having them made and what is left over will be donated to M.D.A. to send a kid to camp in Steve's name. The patch says: In Memory, Steve "Boats" Early, Ride and Fly Free, 11-11-07.
