The Muley Fanatic Foundation is starting its 11th year of operation in Colorado. MFF is a grass root 501c(3) non-profit conservation organization that was originally founded in Rock Springs, WY in October 2011 and registered to operate in Colorado in October 2012. Our mission is “to ensure the conservation of mule deer and their habitat and to provide such supporting services to further the sport of hunting and sound wildlife management”. The Muley Fanatic Foundation meets its mission by partnering with agencies such as the US Forest Service, US Bureau of Land Management, Colorado Parks and Wildlife and other organizations to fund projects that benefit mule deer in our state.
Since 2013, fundraising events that have been held in Loveland and Brighton have resulted in over $547,000 being placed in the Colorado Project Fund. This money has been earmarked to fund a variety of projects such as habitat restoration on public land, studies/research, protection of migration routes, and education. As an example, the Muley Fanatic Foundation was a contributor of the “Safe Highway 9” project which resulted in the widening of Colorado Highway 9 between the Green Mountain Reservoir and Kremmling in Grand County. The project also included the construction of five underpasses and two overpasses to allow wildlife, especially mule deer, to travel over or under the highway to reduce the number of automobile/wildlife collisions. This has been an enormous success story to reduce auto accidents with wildlife saving human lives, wildlife, and thousands of dollars with automobile insurance companies.
