You’re Welcome at wests

There’s nothing like the smell of denim and leather in the morning, as the sweet scent wafts into the city limits of Tamworth we know the Country Music Festival is upon us again. Wests Entertainment Group invites you to brave the cavalcade of straw hats, Drizabone, rhinestone denim and cowboy boots and join us for a Festival of fun, fashion, food and real fine tunes.

LIVE MUSIC Wests Entertainment Group is dedicated to providing a wide selection of first class concerts alongside a wealth of free shows. For the full programme see pages 10-19.

TICKETS Tickets for our paid shows are available online at www.wtlc.com.au. Tickets can also be purchased by phoning the ticket hotline on (02) 6765 7588 or from the Ticket Box located at Wests and Diggers.

EATS AND BEATS Our three prime locations – West Tamworth League Club on Phillip St, West Tamworth, Wests’ Diggers on Kable Ave, Tamworth and now The Courts @ East on the corner of Napier & Roderick Street, East Tamworth, are sure to provide you with first-class eateries and entertainment amidst a fantastic atmosphere. The sister clubs pride themselves on being a hub of entertainment offering high quality food, intimate gigs, an electric and friendly vibe and a reprieve from the blistering heat in air conditioned comfort. The Courts @ East will not host any live music. However, there will be a number of raffles and bingo sessions if you need a little break from the crowded festival, with a full day menu also available. While at Wests and Diggers’ you have the choice of Banjos Family Restaurant and Nero’s Café and Takeaway Food Bar, The Star Maker Café and Smoky’s Bar and Grill. The bustling Clubs offer numerous venues for families to dine and friends to wine at their well-stocked bars.

ACCOMMODATION You are sure to find comfort in our new hotel, Mercure Tamworth. The hotel, which is connected to West Tamworth League Club, boasts 52 luxurious rooms, a corporate meeting room, superior swimming pool and gymnasium. Looking onto the picturesque mountains of the North West with the hub of Wests entertainment precinct at your doorstep, the stately Mercure Tamworth offers the best experience for your Country Music Festival stay. Due to licencing law all take away alcohol must be off the premises by 10:00pm.

CLUB DRESS REGULATIONS Members and their guests are required to be suitably dressed at all times. Singlets will not be permitted at any time. Management reserves the right to refuse entry to people not suitably dressed.

As TCMF2018 marks the 20 year anniversary of the CMAA Academy of Country Music, Kristy Cox and a team of past graduates are organising a great 20 year reunion concert at Wests Diggers showcasing some of the graduates over the last 20 years. They will also be celebrating their alumni

at the Graduation Concert on Friday, January 19 at West Tamworth League Club. All proceeds from the show will go toward a scholarship for a young talent to attend the 2019 Academy. The committee gets many requests for assistance to attend Academy the CMAA will confer with Kristy and the reunion team to develop a set of guidelines in which the winner will be chosen. Scholarships can be chosen based on need, distance or talent quest winners, Maton Instrumental Scholarships and location too in the case of the John Minson Scholarship awarded to a student in New England. Scholarships can vary from year to year but for 2019 we are welcoming a Northern Territory scholarship. We have always had a Troy CassarDaley Scholarship for an Indigenous student and recently our grant from Create NSW allows us to have two Indigenous scholarship students which is a great addition to the Academy. We really love having these students at the Academy and they bring their culture and stories into the circle and it has been something the Academy has enjoyed for over 15 years. Tickets for the reunion concert are available online at www.wtlc.com.au over the phone 6765 7588 or at the Ticket Box at Reception, and will feature artists such as Lyn Bowtell, Roo Arcus, Peter Pratt, Billy Bridge, Travis List, Dan Thompson, Ben Ransom, Sharnee Fenwick, Tracey Killeen, Montgomery Church, Kate Ann, Emma Beau, Liam Kennedy Clark, Kasey Kilsby and many more special guests.

The McGrath Foundation, inspired by the late Jane McGrath, places specialist McGrath Breast Care Nurses where they’re needed to make life that little bit easier for individuals and families experiencing breast cancer. It was announced in February last year that Tamworth would receive our very own McGrath Breast Care Nurse and by July we were introduced to Nerridah Prentice, who has since been supporting individuals and families in our local area. It costs $12 million every year to fund 117 Breast Care Nurse positions, so any and all support received goes a long way.

COUNTRY MUSIC FESTIVAL PROGRAMME

2018 marks the 10 year anniversary of the very popular and talented group Brothers3. We were fortunate enough to catch up with them ahead of festival for a chat.

10 years is such a great achievement, you can really tell each time you perform that you connect with your audience, how will you be celebrating such an achievement? We'll be celebrating our 10 year anniversary by hitting the road and touring Australia once again. We can't wait to share our music (old and new) with everyone who has supported us from day one to now. Can you still remember your very first gig, where and how was it? Our first gig was at the Locomotive Hotel in Tamworth. Mak was 10, Tayzin was 11 and Shardyn was 12. There were heaps of drunk people and someone lit themselves on fire and tried to whip it out with a stock whip. How has your approach to performing changed since then? We've done so many shows in the last 10 years we rarely get nervous before gigs. Some of our pre show rituals include warming up our voices and hands for guitar. And relaxing making sure that we're all on top of everything!

work! So we started that and eventually we became good enough to do it as a living! It's the best being able to work doing what you love.

Do you all live close to each other?

What drew you to music, what inspired you all to take up instruments and share your talent with the world?

Tayzin and Mak are currently both at Mudgee and Shardyn is in Sydney at the moment. We all see each other at least 2 days a week so we're always well rehearsed and mucking around. Do you get to see each other, and your others siblings much when you aren’t touring? Of course! Even though we're always complaining about one another we're almost inseparable. Our other two siblings are never too far away either! I read that you grew up on a farm in beautiful Mudgee. What was that like? Growing up on a farm is the best. You can go wherever you want whenever you want. And nobody can hear the racket we made learning as many instruments as possible. Do you get back there much? We try to get back to the farm as much as possible. Between touring and recording it's hard but whenever we're in the area we always stop by! I think there’s definitely something to be said about growing up running around paddocks and helping out on the farm as opposed to growing up surrounded by iPads and Smart TVs – do you think your upbringing has had a really positive influence on your music and on your lives? Because we had literally no electricity on the farm we were basically forced to either work or learn music. And being young boys we would do anything to get out of

Our mum was an actress/singer/musician. And when we saw mum up on stage as kids all we wanted was to be there with her. She taught us to sing and started us on every instrument we play to this day. So all of our career and any form of success we owe to mum. Are you working on anything new at the moment? We're actually in the midst of writing/recording our new album. We're really proud of some of the material on it so we can't wait to get it to you all soon. How do you go about creating new music, is one of you the go to for song writing and another for composing, or is it all collaborative from the get go? When it comes to writing music we basically sit down in a room and just go for it. Whatever happens, happens. But our main rule is if we start a song we have to finish it. If it's a terrible song it doesn't matter because it's all something you can learn from. What are you listening to at the moment? Mak is always listening to Ed Sheeran 24/7. Tayzin is the biggest Queen fan and Shardyn’s a big Mumford and Sons fan. Our music taste is so diverse and that's the main reason why our shows cater to all age groups What would be your most played song on iTunes/ Spotify? Our most played song would probably be “The Lucky Ones” which was released after Xfactor. Although our single “Brothers Never Part” is getting up there! COUNTRY MUSIC FESTIVAL PROGRAMME
