Our project on “THE BENCH”

QUESTIONS TO THE WRITER

Why did Rinoula’s parents break up?

What made you write this book?

They broke up because they couldn’t live happily together. That’s why they decided to get divorced.

I got the inspiration from a true story and I wrote it during the covid period.

How long did it take you to write the book?

It took me a week to write it but I had it published it 5 years later. It took 6 months to get published.

Why did you write about the issue of divorce?

Nowadays, lots of people get divorced. Also, at school many children live in a single parent household. As a teacher I am usually among the first people that parents inform about the situation in their family. As for me, I always help and advise children. So, the book gave me the opportunity to express my feelings and thoughts about the issue.

3

What was your goal in writing this book?

Why did you call her Rinoula?

I am really glad if even one parent or child gets helped. I’m not a writer by profession though, I’m a mother and a teacher, too. So, my goal was to see kids happy.

The whole story is true except for the names. Rinoula is my daughter’s doll which was on the desk while I was writing.

Did you think about ending the story in a different way?

I surely did, but I decided to give the story a happy end. At the presentations of the book I ask children to give a different end to it. I may use their ideas in a second book!

Role play

Hey Nikos, can we talk a little bit about Rinoula?

You can go to the playground!

Yes ,of course! Rinoula, can you leave us alone for a few minutes?

I talked with the psychologist and she said that we have to be present at our daughter’s important moments in her life.

Ok mum and dad, I’m going!

I agree, we must solve our differences for Rinoula’s sake.

5

Rinoula, come here, we’d like to talk to you. I love you so much!!!

We should be together as a family!
