Draping Period Costumes

Draping an Open Robe or Over Gown The Open Robe or Over Gown allowed most of the Chemise Gown to show in the front. It provided a strong frame of contrast in color, texture, and drape. This garment can be draped with average-weight muslin. 1. Begin with a fitted understructure. Cut a piece of muslin the length of the shoulder-to-waist measurement and one-half as wide as the bust measurement. After anchoring the CF and crossgrain line, drape the armhole and side (back) seam. Drape the underbust seam from the back to the front until the fabric begins to buckle.
