IDEAS FOR COMMUNAL SPACE
I struggled to make spaces that were accessible to everyone but still interesting to look at. After a lot of failed attempts I landed on this design for the main communal space.
I wanted to create a separate space from the main communal area that had a more quiet atmosphere that could be used for educational purposes.
VIEWING SPACE I created three separate viewing areas for my gallery that are interconnected using a balcony area. Theses spaces are accessible from the main communal space from both the upper and lower space.
TUNNEL This connects the two viewing areas. It travels through the main communal area but still keeps the spaces separate.
• My communal space is split in to two main areas. The first area is completely open and serves as a way for people to get to other locations in the gallery as well as seating. The Second is quieter and has a raised floor and lower ceiling which creates a more intimate and personal feel. I designed this space for people to be able to reflect as well as sit in groups
