What is Cystic Fibrosis?

New text to be provided by Sarah Cystic Fibrosis (CF) is the most common, life-threatening genetic condition affecting Australian children today. 1 in 25 people are carriers of the CF gene, leading to 1 in every 2500 babies inheriting CF each year. For kids like Thomas, Lyla, James, Jackson, Aaliyah, Holly and Jordan, living with CF is a very real challenge. Their lungs and digestive system are impaired by a build-up of thick, sticky mucus which can result in lung damage, repeated infections and malnutrition. Each person with CF is affected differently, but a standard day could involve taking up to 40 tablets to help with digestion and going through up to two hours of airway-clearance physiotherapy. Many people with CF become regulars on the ward at Princess Margaret and Sir Charles Gardiner Hospitals when they can no longer manage at home. At present there is no cure for CF, but we are working on it. Together we can achieve our vision of ‘lives unaffected by CF.”

Thanks to you, we have raised over $250,000 for CF research to date!
