Trash Off Event The City of Lancaster is committed to continue being clean and green, while providing a healthy, safe and vibrant community for its citizens. In support of “Keep Lancaster Beautiful� and the Great American Clean-up efforts, the City of Lancaster welcomes residents to participate in its upcoming Trash Off on Saturday, November 03, 2018 from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at 1501 N. Dallas Avenue (next to Regions Bank).
The Trash Off is a great opportunity for Lancaster residents to clean their home, garage, and yard of bulk trash, recyclables, scrap metal, brush, and electronic waste (i.e. computers, kitchen appliances, televisions, etc.) at no additional cost. Focusing on creating more opportunities to become a greener city and reducing our carbon footprint, Goodwill Industries of Dallas will be on-site accepting donations of furniture, clothes, and household items that would otherwise end up in landfills.
Additionally, residents will be able to shred documents and dispose of household hazardous wastes (Oil, liquids, paint, chemicals, batteries, fertilizers etc.) at no additional cost. The Trash Off is a wonderful opportunity for individuals, groups, and organizations to volunteer to clean-up trash in selected areas of Lancaster. All volunteers will receive complimentary lunch and a volunteer t-shirt on the day of the event.

Residents disposing of appliances must have refrigerant removed and tagged by a certified technician. This program is open to Lancaster residents only with proof of residency. You can drop off your expired medications Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. at the Public Safety Building, 100 Craig Shaw Memorial Parkway.
Do you need a Toll Tag? Toll tags are available for purchase from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday at 211 N. Henry Street, Lancaster, TX 75146. Lancaster Eyes and Ears Program (LEEP) The City of Lancaster Code Compliance Division is seeking volunteers to join the
Blowing or leaving grass clippings and other yard waste in the street is ILLEGAL (Ord. Sec. 24.05.006). The LEEP program will primarily perform duties in the field identifying code violations for code officers to perform further investigation. Essential duties and responsibilities: Patrol assigned areas to identify code violations such as: Excessive accumulation of trash and debris; parking of vehicles, boats, trailers on unimproved surfaces; high grass and overgrown weeds/vegetation; junk vehicles; illegal dumping and litter; and illegal placement of signs.

Why? Besides being a code violation, leaves and grass clippings can clog the City’s storm water drain system. When drains are clogged with clippings and debris, rain water can come backup and flood homes and property. Also, storm drains empty into our creeks and river unfiltered and untreated. What should I do with clippings? • Blow grass clippings back onto the lawn, where they become a mulch and natural fertilizer. • Collect clippings and leaves into compost pile. Clippings are excellent compost for gardens. • Sweep, collect and bag clippings and leaves and dispose of properly. How to report it? Your sewer bill is based upon your water consumption Outdoor water use (such as irrigation and recreational use) does not typically enter the city’s wastewater system and using winter averaging consumption therefore, prevents the wastewater portion of your utility from spiking during the summer.

Keep your dog and/or cat contained in your yard. Dogs must be held by a leash at all times in a park or public playground, except in park areas designated and posted by the City of Lancaster to be "dog friendly areas", such as the Dog Park at City Park across from the Golf course.
The City of Lancaster ordinance (Sec. 22.06.004) prohibits leaving or parking a motor vehicle, boat or other impediment on any public street or alley between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. within ten (10) feet of a mailbox, except a United States Postal Service vehicle, and except on Sundays and federal holidays.

Winter Basketball League The City of Lancaser and Metro Basketball Association presents the 2018 Winter Basketball League. Youth attending Lancaster ISD Elementary will have a chance to represent their school by participating on a team with their classmates. Ages are 4U, 6U, 8U, 10U, and 12U.
Lifeguard Certification Learn basic lifesaving techniques and get certified as an American Red Cross Lifeguard. Includes CPR/First Aid/AED. Features and Amenities The Lancaster Senior Life Center is a full-service activity center open to adults ages 50 years and up. The center includes several top features: • • • • • • • •
Banquet hall with full catering kitchen and stage Nintendo WII consoles for fun and fitness Classrooms Craft room Reading lounge with selection of books Well-stocked game room with pool & poker tables Computer room Fitness room
There is truly something for everyone! All members will receive a t-shirt and opportunity to participate in classes, special events and to build new friendships. Membership fee for a resident is $3/annually and for a non-resident $5/annually.
Congregate Meal Program Lunch served Monday-Friday 12:00 p.m. – 1:00 p.m. The Congregate Meal Program is a daily lunch program that ensures a nutritious meal for seniors ages 60 and older. It is FREE and senior participants do not have to be a member of the Lancaster Senior Life Center. Senior participants MUST complete an intake form and nutrition assessment prior to participating in the program, which is sponsored in part by the Dallas Area Agency on Aging and the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services. RSVP’s are highly encouraged. Participants must attend at least one nutrition education session annually. Seniors, ages 50-59, who are not members of the Lancaster Senior Life Center may purchase a lunch from the program for an additional fee.

Shopping Trips Each month we provide transportation from the Senior Life Center to area stores. Two additional outings are taken each month as well.
Line Dance Step to the beat with today’s newest moves. Learn a new style each month. Learn the basic steps. Beginners, intermediate and advanced dancers are all welcomed. Wednesdays at 1:00 p.m.

Groom and Glamour Lounge Who doesn’t like looking good? Groom and Glamour Days are back! Senior adults (men and women), you owe it to yourself to be pampered. Must sign up early at the Senior Life Center. Seating is limited. Offered the first and third Wednesdays of the month from 11:45 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Knitting and Crochet Come and enjoy the lively company of a tightly knitted group of senior adults, designing items through knitting and crochet. Class is open to all (beginners, intermediates and advanced members). Tuesdays and Thursdays from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.

Lifetime of Legacies Every day in essence is our birthday, but we designate one day each month to celebrate the lifetime and legacies of our senior adults with recognition, cupcakes, ice cream and fun. It is what we do best. “Adding Living to Life!” First Thursday of each month from 11:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
Men’s Power Hour This is a powerful hour of empowerment. Come and fellowship with other men to discuss and engage in conversations, specifically important to men. This very popular class is open to men of all ages and distinctions. Strength is mighty. One’s mind is mightier. Empower your mind through conversations with men of all ages, races and nationalities. Nutrition Education Session A comprehensive and effective presentation that is designed to provide you with valuable information, tools and resources to make more informed and healthy food choices. Sewing and Quilting Bring your own materials and enjoy conversation, technique assistance and the company of fellow craftsmen. Machines and quilting horse provided. Participants create items to donate to area hospitals. Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Stretch Xercise
Everyone loves games. PuzzleRama is a wonderful way to exercise your ingenuity and your wealth of knowledge, as only seniors know. We have a variety of puzzles. Increase your “inductive reasoning aptitude� and discover logic in the palm of your hands. PuzzleRama exercises the mind, body and soul, by challenging your to pick up the pieces and solve the problem. Mondays from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Reading is Fun Reading is basic information, and essential to the livelihood of all individuals, so much so that it is the most popular program at the Senior Life Center. Money is fundamental. Wisdom is powerful. Knowledge is an advantage. Nothing, however, compares to the written word on paper. Engaging, energizing, informative and empowering. Re-develop your love of reading.
