Research In Action NEW INNOVATION SPACE ON CAMPUS
CREIGHTON AND SAM CO-CREATORS OF THE 707 HUB
The 707 Hub was a two-and-a-half-year project proposed by two students and funded by the Marquette University Strategic Innovation Fund. Inside, there’s space for every work style including open, collaborative workspaces, meeting rooms and quiet nooks. Workshop spaces feature computers, design software, 3D printers, hand tools, sewing machines and more. A pitch space serves as a setting for classes, guest speakers, workshops and pitch competitions.

The new space helps to support exciting cross-campus collaborations and programs such as the Grocery Challenge. This year, the goal of the program was to bring more fresh food options to the Near West Side. All semester, student innovators from across campus worked with the 707 Hub staff to think about a complex issue and propose innovative solutions. In April, teams pitched and shared their insights and ideas, with many campus and community leaders taking notice. Since the pitches, it was announced that Sendik’s will be coming to campus and we launched a local farmer’s market (one of the key ideas presented). We are looking forward to piloting some of the other recommendations with students in the fall.
“You have helped change how fresh food will be made available in our community. Please accept my personal thanks for your commitment.” —Dr. Michael R. Lovell President of Marquette University (excerpted from a letter to participants)
