Tips for Caring for Aging Parents Zeta Phi Beta Sorority is tackling senior care as one of the national service initiatives. International President Mary Wright has made this her top priority since taking office in 2012. Caring for aging parents is a struggle for many people. Zeta Phi Beta is at the forefront of increasing awareness of elder abuse and volunteering at senior care facilities. Below are several questions to consider when visiting aging parents. 1. Are your parents taking care of themselves? 2. Are your parents safe in their home? 3. Are your parents safe on the road? 4. Have your parents lost weight? 5. Are your parents in good spirits? 6. Are your parents mobile? 7. Do your parents experience memory loss? Sometimes aging parents will not admit they need help around the house. Remind your parents that you care about them and that you want to do what's best to promote their health and well-being, both today and in the months and years to come.

President’s Corner Happy 25th anniversary Xi Mu Zeta! It is truly a pleasure to serve as the president of a chapter that upholds the ideal of service and continually honors its commitment to scholarship. Xi Mu Zeta has awarded more than $50,000 to deserving high school students throughout the last twenty five years. In addition, the chapter has hosted an annual toy drive and Christmas party for the Family Rescue Shelter and Transitional Housing Facility. The anniversary celebration began in early September with a social gathering with the sultry songstress Terisa Griffin featured at Chicago State’s Jazz in the Grazz on Wednesday, September 4. The official kick off is a dessert reception on Saturday, September 28. The reception will honor the twenty-two women that embarked on our journey on March 10, 1989. Stay tuned for more exciting social and service events in the coming months. Xi Mu Zeta forges ahead following International President Mary Wright’s theme, Building on the Principles of Zeta While Blazing New Paths. The chapter is forming new partnerships with groups, such as Gospel Kitchen, as well as, refueling past partnerships with the American Red Cross and the Ruff Ryders. Xi Mu Zeta remains focused on creating programs that positively impact Markham and the surrounding communities. The chapter also supports and participates in many of the city’s holiday and summer events. Our Zeta light shines bright. Here’s to another twenty five years of excellence!
