The Cante de Las Minas Festival, with more than fifty editions, is one of the flamenco contests more acclaimed by audience and critics at global level. Recognised by National Tourist Interest declaration in 1982, an International Tourist Interest declaration in 2007, has also been awarded : in 2009 as the Spanish Cultural Event with more International Impact, in 2011 as the National Music Award, and it’s the only flamenco festival that can represent the ‘Marca España’ since 2013.

Cante de Las Minas Foundation is a non-profit organization whose main aim is linked to the implementation of general interest objectives related to its creation: investigation, publication, support to interdisciplinary projects and the organization of congresses and monographic encounters related to the world of flamenco. However its main activity will be linked to the management of the International Festival of Cante de Las Minas in La Unión, which is hold annually. The Foundation will carry out its work in the line initiated by the founders of the Festival, as well as of those who since then have devoted their activities, studies and investigation to the promotion of mining songs and the culture witihin the festival itself.

CREATIVE EUROPE PROGRAMME

General Information

Objectives: o

Encourage the transnational circulation of cultural and artistic experiences of flamenco involving cultural operators (festivals, dance schools, music conservatories, associations, etc.), promoting exchanges and international circulation of flamenco artists in Europe, as well as their creations.

o

Promote new opportunities of international circulation of novel flamenco artists.

o

Contribute to support the flamenco, in particular the “cantes mineros” (mine songs), dancing and flamenco guitar, to reach new European audiences, helping the artists to stimulate interest in new audiences.

Possible activities: o

Organization of flamenco contests by the partners in one or more of these categories: singing, dancing, guitar or flamenco instrumentalist. The winners will participate to the next edition of Cante de Las Minas Festival.

o

Organization of exhibitions and master class by the winners of Cante de Las Minas Festival, in all the project areas.

o

Organization of parallel cultural activities related to flamenco (conferences, books or disks presentations, etc.) to be established with the partners.

Results: o

A new channel to “discover” and support young European flamenco artists will be created. These emerging artists will have a local contest to which they can participate, that will be created with the tested methodology of Cante de Las Minas Festival, and the

winners will participate to a European level contest. o

An exchange system between cultural operators will be built, enabling an international opportunity for emerging artists, who will have their participation guaranteed to the final of Cante de Las Minas Festival of La Unión.

An encouragement for the mobility and exchange of artists and contribution to the creation of new opportunities for them, approaching new audiences and promoting their interest for this artistic and cultural expression in European territories not traditionally considered as “flamenco territories”.
