W

elcome Cattlemen,

On behalf of all the consignors, we would like to welcome you to the 2nd Annual Blue Collar Bull Sale. In our 2009 sale we sold bulls into nine states from Washington to Alabama and from Michigan to Texas and several points in between. We feel this speaks volumes about the versatility the genetics in this sale bring to the table. There are bulls in the offering to fit virtually any operation. The common denominator that all these bulls offer is maternal strength-the main trait that the Shorthorn breed was founded on. So many times, we, as an industry get caught up in numbers, ratios, EPD’s and performance (weaning weight and/or yearling weight) and lose focus on “the cow.” While growth and carcass merit are important traits, we all know that without “the cow” we are in a world of hurt. Daughters of any of the bulls in this offering will be the keeping kind. Last year, while on test, the bulls far exceeded the projected gain and it looks to be the same this year. The bulls will come off test January 6th and gain data will be accessible at aandtcattle.com or kapercattle. com. If you do not have access to the internet, feel free to contact any of the consignors to receive a supplement sheet via mail. Along with gain data, there will also be frame scores, scrotal circumference, and carcass ultrasound information included on the supplement sheet. Please contact the respective consignors regarding interest in any specific lots. We all enjoy talking cows and want to help you find the bulls that best fit your goals and objectives. There is integrity in the data presented in this sale and there is integrity in the parentage of these bulls. You will never regret owning “honest cattle.” Sincerely, Aaron and Tara Rasmussen Jett & Jaelyn

A&T Cattle Co.

Purebred Shorthorn Bull

February 3, 2010 - Rushville, NE Last year our lot 1 bull was a very good representative of our program and this year is no different. Rawhide has been a standout since the day he was born. Unassisted and out of an awesome first calf heifer and like every bull in the sale, raised without creep feed and never saw grain until the very end of October. Many may recognize the maternal side of Rawhide’s pedigree as the grand-dam is also the dam to A&T Captain Obvious, the very popular herd sire for Lakeside Farms in Michigan and recently recruited by Cattle Visions for 2010. DRC 244 also landed a package of embryos to Cyclone Trace and is a featured flush lot in the 2010 Summit sale at the National Western. In need of calving ease, moderate frame size, fleshing ability, good looks and maternal power second to none? Dig in, it’s right here. Polled.

Dam: A&T MISS OBVIOUS 725

We don’t make a habit of retaining any kind of interest in bulls we sell but we will retain an in-herd-only semen interest in A&T Rawhide 962 and he will see use here via A.I. because of the loss of his sire last fall.

Lot 2 - A&T GUNSMOKE 964 Consignor: A & T Cattle Co Reg.# *x4156281 Birthdate: 3-17-09

Another Open Range son out of a beautiful first calf GNCC Vortec daughter back to the Dover Ranch 489 cow that raised the Lot 3 bull in this sale. Solid Red, polled, soggy and moderate. This bull is a sure-fire bet for easy calving on first calf heifers. I would bet the daughters would be super uddered, efficient little range cows as well. If used on the right kind this guy could sire some show heifers too. Polled

This bull is the result of mating a $15,000 high-seller from the Shorthorn Pride sale to a plain, hard-working, easy-keeping range cow. If this bull was polled I would say that it worked to Dam: DRC 489HK perfection. Everyone who has seen this bull absolutely loves him. He is another soggy made easy-doing type with an excellent disposition. His dam landed an Open Range son in the Lot 2 spot in last year’s sale where he was selected by Fred and Joe Moore of Gothenburg, NE. De-horned

This pair of bulls would work great as a tandem on a set of commercial cows. Both are big hipped, big-topped bulls with adequate growth and both are out of very functional Green Valley cows that came here from the Hoyts at Basin, WY. It was a pleasure doing business with Gwen and Colter, they are great folks and we are sad to see them get out of the Shorthorn business and will be forever grateful to have the opportunity to own such a powerful set of appendix free matrons. Stay tuned for the 2010 crop from the GVR cows.

We have been selling Angus bulls to Ben and Christa Wegner for Dam: GB SYMPHONY 2000 several years now and they have always admired our Shorthorns. We have leaned on them to use a shorthorn bull but instead they decided to buy a cow, and they got a good one. They bought this Dazzler daughter last year from Jungels, bred to Jazz. He has all the mass, guts and bone one would want along with a nice deep cherry red color and a puppy-dog disposition. This bull is a full sib to 2 high selling heifer calves on the Memories in the Making sale and a paternal sib to the hot young sire at Select Sires, Capiche. Buy with confidence. Polled

This guy should improve ribeye area and %yield Dam: NONPAREIL FLOSSIE 994 on British cows producing too many yield grade 4’s. Chi Player brings these benefits without increasing frame size or birth weight and adding eye-appeal at the same time. The steer brothers to this bull are doing great in the lot and appear to be the kind that will dollar-out well in the end. This bull’s dam is why he is still a bull instead of a steer. She is quite possibly the best cow we got out of the Hoyt herd in terms of phenotype and udder quality and look forward to her 2010 calf by Max. The old 121 cow family strikes again! The dam of this bull goes back to one of my grandpa Rasmussen’s cows we called “121” and she was a good one just like every cow that goes back to her is. Last year the Open Range son out of this cow was selected by Rasmussen Ranch for his power and muscle shape and the Dam: RRI 501 of 121 obvious cow power that they know so much about. They used him on 20 cows last summer-none of which were exposed to AI. He has run out all winter with no grain and looks great! These are the first of many JSF Allegiance sons to sell in the Blue Collar sale. We love the Allegiance cattle for their controlled birth weights, above average growth and big barreled easy-fleshing appearance. The Allegiances should scan well too considering he was the high scanning IMF shorthorn in Denver the year we bought him. You really can’t go wrong with this bull.

Again, I will talk cowpower. This bull comes from a great cow line developed by Tara’s dad, Gary Housh. For those of you who know Gary, you also know that he is a very sharp cowman that expects a lot from his cows without putting too much into them. Dam: Housh BAR EXT 101 This 101 cow thrives in our low-input environment as she breeds A.I. first service every year and always raises a herd sire prospect or replacement heifer regardless of what she is bred to, which is typical for a BAR EXT daughter. The added bonus is that her progeny always shine on the ultrasound sheet and are very light birthweight. This bull could be used on heifers no problem and you will want to keep every heifer you get out of him, guaranteed! │ALLIANCE 7125 JSF ALLEGIANCE T10 ET │ *x4131099 │DEE JAYS MARVELOUS DRIVE │BAR EXT Traveler 205 Housh BAR EXT 101 │ │Housh 2RT2 916

There are three important things about the Kaper bred bulls in

this sale I would like to convey to you. First, the benchmark for our program is the fact that our cattle are raised in a low input environment. Second, our cow herd has been line bred since its inception 36 years ago offering the cattleman reliability and an extra boost of hybrid vigor. Third would be the maternal ability bred into these bulls. Their pedigree’s are laced

Donnelly ShorthornsThe goal of our program is to produce functional, practical shorthorns. The key ingredient is quality females; we take a great deal of pride in having a highly productive herd of brood cows. A stringent set of guidelines is in place as a quality control to ensure only the best females make it into production. Emphasis is placed on these highly heritable traits; fertility, sound movement, structure, conformation, udder quality, fleshing ability, birth weight, growth, and temperament. While only having a small number of cows, we demand they are as

This bull calf has been a lot of fun to watch develop, these True Blue calves are the real deal. 902W is what I had hoped for out of True Blue; stout, exceptionally sound structured & moving, and still soft made & easy fleshing. This guy’s mother will be 13 in April and gets it Dam: Z KATIE SECRET done year after year but she may have out done herself here. 902W was born unassisted on a 5 degree January day, licked off, nursed, and bedded down by the time I found him. One should also note, mama bred back 1st service AI and weaned this red meat wagon off at 686 pounds, with no creep. Given the maternal lines on both sides of 902W’s pedigree, the replacements he’ll produce will be awfully good, not to mention he’ll add pounds to your calf crop.

Purebred Shorthorn Bull

Lot 20 - JDMC MAJOR PRIORITY 942W Consignor: JDMC Cattle Co. - Renville MN Reg.# CM519145

Here is a Durham Red bull that will solve a lot of issues for anyone. This could be one of the best Durham red bulls ever raised. I don’t even want to talk about his mother because there is not enough room on this page. The Major League calves that we had out of our shorthorn cows were all impressive but this one made it to the top of the bull pen easily. If you don’t check him out on sale day you will regret it for along time coming.
