Engr. Henry H. Tristeza formally accepts the symbolic key of responsibility for the Office of the Assistant Regional Manager of NFA Region I from Engr. Ma. Elvira M. Martinez as Regional Director Carlito G. Co looks on.

Tristeza is NFA Region I Assistant Regional Manager Engr. Henry H. Tristeza, a registered ASEAN Engineer, took over the stewardship of the Office of the Assistant Regional Manager of NFA Region I in an Acting capacity in simple turnover rites on April 10, 2014 at the NFA Regional Office I in San Juan, La Union. Tristeza took over the reins of the said office from Engr. Ma. Elvira M. Martinez who was Assistant Regional Manager for almost three years. Martinez was designated as Officer-inCharge of the Food Development Center (FDC) in Taguig, a subsidiary of the NFA. The new Assistant Regional Manager, prior to his appointment in Region I was a long time Provincial Manager of NFA in Allacapan, Cagayan. He entered

the food agency as Research Engineer in 1978 at the Technology Resource and Development Department (TRDD) although his career with the NFA was mostly spent in Region II. Engr. Tristeza is a licensed Agricultural Engineer and is presently the National President of the Philippine Society of Agricultural Engineers. In his acceptance message, he vowed to work hard as the region’s Asst. Regional Manager.

Ilocos Sur conducts Seminar on Yellow Corn Grains Classification, Quality Assurance, Control and Procurement Bantay, Ilocos Sur– As summer cropping season is over, farmers in the province of Ilocos Sur have started harvest of their yellow corn grains produce. Prior to the start of yellow corn procurement, on March 18, 2014, NFA-Ilocos Sur conducted Crash Training and Briefing on Corn Classification and Quality Control. Acting RSQAO Rodolfo W. Corpuz shared his knowledge and expertise on corn classification, quality assurance and control to the employees and stakeholders of NFA-Ilocos Sur. He lectured about purity, dryness and maturity of corn. He also mentioned that yellowcorn grains to be procured must be of good quality and free from infestation. The lecture emphasized adherence to good warehousekeeping, to maintain the quality of corn procured and prevent infestation. Classifiers were given reminders in the conduct of classification to assure that

guidelines and strategies of the yellow corn procurement. He mentioned that this year’s procurement is funded by NFA under the agency regular procurement scheme. “The requirements to be submitted for corn procurement accredita- tion are the same with palay procurement”, he added. He also mentioned that NFA support price for Yellow Corgrains is at Php 12.30/kg with additional 0.40 centavos representing delivery and drying incentives for individual farmers while for cooperatives an additional 0.30 centavos for CDIF on top of other incentives. On March 24, 2014, an initial of 272 bags have been delivered by Magsingal Cali Irrigators Association and up to this date, a total of 458 bags or equivalent of 24,596.49 net kilos have been procured by the branch.
