The mission of Foley Community Education is to provide lifelong learning opportunities and experiences to community members of all ages. Greetings I hope everyone has had a wonderful fun-filled summer! Community Education welcomes you back with many opportunities to get involved and learn. Community Education supports the love of learning. The Youth Expo will be held Thursday September 21st from 5:30-7:00 p.m. at the High School Gym. This year’s theme is ‘Survivor’ and there will supper available for sale again. Come and enjoy the fun! Thank you to all the students, parents, instructors, staff, and community members for all the support. Community Education strives for continuous improvement and works each day to not only to improve current offerings but build new offerings. If you have any suggestions please let us know. I would like to give a big warm thank you to all the instructors who have taken the time to put together such great opportunities for our community members!

Creative Kids with

Babysitter Training, Ages 11+ Emergency Outfitters

This course follows the American Academy of PediatricsBabysitter Lessons and Safety Trainings (BLAST). Students will learn current practices for safety and injury prevention, first aid basics, feeding and caring for infants, how to handle behavior problems and how to manage their babysitting business. Students will receive a reference book, recipe and game handouts, babysitting bag and first aid kit. Please bring snacks. Class Fee: $59 Mon-Thu • Nov 13-16 • 3:00-5:00pm • FIS Room 305

F.A.S.T. Kids, Ages 7-10 Emergency Outfitters

First Aid and Safety Trained Kids is a 6-hour course for 7-10 year olds. Lessons cover basic first aid, water safety, vehicle safety, home emergencies, injury prevention, personal safety and healthy living. This course helps prepare children for staying at home alone. Students will be introduced to basic programming as they create interactive stories, design animations, and make mini-games. Kids Can Cook - Healthy Habits, K-6 Stacey Novak

Eat well, play hard, have fun! These unique, hands-on classes begin with students learning about, preparing and eating healthy snacks. The second half is spent doing wacky relay races, silly contests and goofy games that will have students being active and having fun. Grandmasters of Chess, Gr K-5 Youth Enrichment League

New and returning students invited. Each {YEL!} Chess class follows four basic components: •Teach It! -Each class students are taught different chess concepts and coached to implement those concepts into their chess games. •Practice It! -Students practice positions set by the coach to improve their understanding of the concept. •Puzzle It! -Students are given chess puzzles (constructed by WIM Serafima Sokolovskaya) and work with coach guidance to solve them. •Play It! -Each class ends with students playing 20-30 minutes of chess. Gear Engineers, Gr 1-5 Youth Enrichment League

Gear Engineers For STEM Enrichment uses LEGO® bricks for the 21st Century learner. Each {YEL!} STEM class follows four basic components. •Teach It! -Each class students are taught the basic STEM engineering concepts behind each project. •Build It! -Students use LEGO® bricks to build a trundle wheel, merry-go-round and design their own wicked amusement park ride. •Explore It! -Then they use that project to explore the basic engineering concepts, this session is focused on gearing concepts. •Play It! -Finally they play with their project, modify it, create extensions and have fun working with it. Boys Basketball, Gr 5-6 Nathan Larison

Foley Falcon Archery: Beginner This class will help students learn eye dominance, concentrate on range rules, safety rules and fundamentals of archery, scoring and fun events using The Genesis Bow equipment. All equipment is provided. This class is for archers who DID NOT participate on the Falcon Archery Team this past year. There are only 14 spots! Learn fundamental skills, drills, games, plays and contents currently being used by the Foley boys basketball program and traveling teams. The schedule of games in late November and early December will be distributed at practice. Jerseys for games are provided. We rely on parents to help and will only have as many teams as coaches. Foley Falcon Archery, Gr 2-12

Take your student to the next level in archery competition! We will be competing against other schools in traveling leagues! Using GENESIS BOW EQUIPMENT ONLY, as to follow with NASP State rule guidelines. Practice times are at least twice a week. Open to students in grades 2-12. Class Fee: This class fee is a package fee. The package fee includes the cost of instructors, equipment, maintenance, 6 tournaments AND a shooter t-shirt Practice: Mon-Thu 5:30-8:00 pm, Nov 13-Apr. Practice times will be available Mon-Thu from 5:30-8:00pm, students are asked to come twice a week for an hour each visit, practice time preferences will be taken and a schedule or sign-up sheets made. *Practices will be held in the intermediate cafeteria. There will be 6 tournaments included and other tournaments will be offered to those who wish to attend more these tournament fees are not included in the team fee. Please note there will be limited spots left for new archers. A waiting list will be created as needed. Falcon Dance Camp, Gr K-6

Tae Kwon Do with

Falcon Dance Camp K-12 Come learn a dance with the Foley Falconettes Dance Team! Join a few members of the Falconettes dance team as they teach you a dance routine to perform for your community at a home football game! And even get a t-shirt to bring home! Performance will be at the home football game during half-time on Friday, October 13th. Dancers should arrive at 7:00pm to prepare for performance. Dawn Opheim Lil’ Kickers Tae Kwon Do, Ages 4-6 This program is designed as a precursor to regular Tae Kwon Do classes for young children. This course, sponsored by Community Education and A Z Drivers Instruction from Isle, MN, provides 30 hours of classroom drivers training. The course meets the requirements to obtain a driving permit. Students must be 15 in order to take the permit test. We encourage taking this class as close when a student will take the permit test as possible. Attendance at all 30 hours of the class is required. Adults wishing to get a driving permit are welcome to take this class also. Behind the Wheel instruction can be contracted on an individual basis with A - Z Drivers Instruction. The $20 Community Education fee is due with registration. One Act Play, Gr 6-9 Who needs several acts in a play when just one will do? Try your theatrical hand at a short but sweet production. The title has yet to be determined but there is sure to be a role perfect for you. Tryouts are the first day and rehearsals begin the second. Information on the performances in early December will be announced at rehearsals. Listen for announcements in late October about what show we will perform this year. Football, Gr 5-6

Learn the basics of football through practice, drills and organized games, all while wearing helmets and pads. Please wear athletic shoes (no cleats), dress for the weather and purchase a jersey if you do not have one. Mouth guards will be provided. Class fee: $56 + $18 if you need a jersey. Swimming Lessons will be offered again starting in January 2018! If your child was in summer swimming lessons, we encourage them to attend open swim starting in November to practice what they learned. Level I: Intro to Water Skills

Students will learn to feel comfortable in the water and to enjoy the water safely. Suggested minimum age 4. Class size: 6 maximum.

Level II: Fundamental Aquatic Skills

Students explore simultaneous and alternating arm and leg motions on the front and back to lay the foundation for futures strokes. Adds to skills begun in Level I. Student must have passed Level I. Class size: 8 maximum.

Level III: Stroke Development

Students will learn to coordinate the front and back crawl, elements of the butterfly, treading water and rules for head-first entries. Build on the skills of Level II with guided practice. Student must have passed Level II. Class size: 8 maximum.

Level IV: Stroke Improvement

Students will improve their skills and increase their endurance by swimming familiar strokes for greater distances. Continue to build the butterfly strokes and be introduced to the breaststroke, elementary backstroke, elements of the sidestroke and basic turns. Student must have passed Level III. Class size: 8 maximum.

Level V: Stroke Refinement

Students continue to refine all the strokes: front and back crawl, butterfly, breaststroke and sidestroke. Students will increase their distance and be introduced to flip turns. Student must have passed Level IV. Class size: 8 maximum.

Level VI: Lifeguard Readiness

Refine strokes so students swim with more ease, efficiency, power and smoothness over greater distances. Includes skills for lifeguard and personal water safety and practices the prerequisites for the Lifeguard and Water Safety Instructor certification. Student must have passed Level V. Class size: 8 maximum. Open Swim Swim, float, splash in the Foley High School pool. Lifeguards will be on duty for you to enjoy the water. No Flotation Devices. Children under 6 must be accompanied by an adult. Please bring your own towel. Fee: $4 for adults, $2 for students, $7 per family on Sundays. Private Swimming Lessons Get one-on-one instruction on the water skills you want to work on. The instructor will work with you to develop and achieve goals that will have you swimming like a fish in no time. Enjoy four, 45-minute sessions. Taylors Falls Boat Tour Since 1906, thousands of tourists have enjoyed the scenic beauty of the world famous Dalles of the St. Croix River excursion boat. The boat pilot and tour guide will point out the unique rock formations that were left behind as the glaciers retreated thousands of years ago set against the beautiful colors of autumn. After the boat tour, enjoy lunch at one of the restaurants, walking the authentic streets of Taylor Falls, shopping at the cute stores, and hiking the trails. We will be taking a motor coach bus. Trip ticket includes motor-coach transportation and boat cruise ticket.  Registration deadline September 27. Adults who are no longer enrolled in high school are eligible to earn a high school equivalency diploma by passing the GED test. Community Education Adult Basic Ed classes, offered free of charge, can help you prepare for the GED test. If you already have a diploma, Adult Basic Ed classes can help you prepare for college or technical school and brush up reading, math, writing and computer skills.
