COMMUNITY EVENTS HABERSHAM THIRD ANNUAL EARTH DAY Today, Friday, April 20th from 4 to 7 PM at the Habersham Market Place there is a festival to help Beaufort Citizens and visitors of all ages become more aware of green (environmentally desirable) options both personal (home) as well as community choices. Various “green” groups and exhibitors will be at the Festival. Some activities will be targeted for children. Food vendors will be showcasing local produce. The second annual art show – “Up-Cycled Art in Downtown Habersham” winners will be recognized during the event and art exhibits will be displayed in Habersham’s Green Room. Enjoy live music by Billy Drysdale! SOFT SHELL CRAB FESTIVAL The town of Port Royal will host its 9th Annual Soft Shell Crab Festival from 1200 – 1700 on Saturday, April 21ST along Paris Avenue. Soft shell crabs are simply blue crabs that shed their old shells in the spring when the water warms up. With a soft shell crab, the entire crab may be eaten, legs and all. If you’ve never tried one, now is the time to do it, as the season happens only once a year. Admission is free and the event is family friendly, so bring the kids. See the attached flyer. NATIONAL PARK WEEK National Park Week will run from Saturday, April 21 through Sunday, April 29. Throughout the country, visitors can enjoy the beauty and wonder of 84 million acres of the world’s most spectacular scenery, historic places and cultural treasures for FREE!

RESOURCES & UPDATES CAREER & EDUCATION FAIR The 10th Annual Career and Education Fair will take place on April 24, 2012. It will be held at the AWTF from 1100‐1400. Email the FRO for a flyer and the list of attending employers and educators or log on to eMarine.org and navigate to the “Spouses” page for details. Come dressed in appropriate interview attire to meet potential employers and college representatives! DINING DIVAS APRIL Our Dining Divas for April is on the 24th at 11:30. We will have lunch at MoonDoggies in downtown Port Royal. They are located at 930 9th Street in Port Royal, SC. Check out their website here to get a preview of the restaurant. SPOUSE WARRIOR DAY Spouse Warrior Day is just around the corner on Saturday, May 19th! Participation is limited to 250, so have your friends sign up quickly! Remember that your kids need to be pre‐registered at the CDC for drop off and will need their SC Immunization records on file. KAPLAN UNIVERSITY SPOUSE SCHOLARSHIPS The American Freedom Foundation has partnered with Kaplan University to provide over $1 million in scholarships to military spouses. Kaplan offers classes both on-campus and online. The scholarship brings the cost at Kaplan down to $150 per credit hour. The qualifications and scholarship process are on the website.
