empire square The award-winning Empire Square scheme at London Bridge is the work of London-based Polish architects, Rolfe Judd, developed by Berkeley Homes. The 200 luxury apartments doubled the density of the site, which is landscaped with pedestrian routes crossing the central gardens, open to the public but closed at night. The apartments are affordable, conveniently located, with those in the tower block offering splendid views of the city. The development was selected as overall winner at the 2007 Housing Design Awards. Particular praise was reserved for the reduction of the project’s carbon footprint, as well as the scope and style of the development as a whole. The mixed-tenure scheme also features underground parking, a supermarket, nursery, restaurant-bar and gym.
