Our approach to the design of learning environments revolves around the delivery of education. An understanding of the activities taking place in a space should define the form. All designs should be sufficiently adaptable to respond to future change.

“Schools must allow children to express themselves in any number of ways. Our design must create stimulating and uplifting environments that encourage inspiration, exploration and discovery.”

The ‘Senses of Place’ study conducted with the Scottish Government and A+DS has considered concepts for exemplar primary school projects. The studies above present a number of ways to address flexible learning environments.

Sustainability is a holistic issue that encompasses environmental, social, technological and economic challenges. It is about understanding our impact on the environment and the environment’s impact on us and having the willingness and commitment to adapt to change, react to nature and to use learning environments to promote sustainability in the wider sense.
