Note: A good song to dougie to is about 88 beats per minute. A good starting song would of course be Cali Swag District: Teach Me How to Dougie, but once you become a pro, you can dougie to anything.


The Basics Legwork

Bring your left leg in towards the right, keeping both knees slightly bent. Stand up straight. Take your right leg and step to the right side.

This is called the dip.


Do this twice: with one step and dip combo per beat, for 4 beats (right, left, right, left).

From the dip, take your left leg and step towards the left side.

Repeat this combo until comfortable. ...and dip! Bring your right leg in towards the left, again keeping both knees bent.


The Basics UpperBody

2. At the dip, re-centre your body and arc your back slighly forward.

1. As your right leg steps to the right, arc your back towards the right as well (almost like you aredoing a body roll, but just using the top half of your body).


3. Arc your back to the left as you step to the left.

4. And again, at the dip, re-centre your body and arc your back slighly forward. Now try another 4 bars with a right-dip-left-dip combo, but this time, put your back into it.


The Basics Arms

1. When you step to the right, bring your left arm up and across your body, keeping your left elbow bent.

2. At the dip, bring your arms together, slighly bent, and bring them slighly below the waistline.


3. Now bring your right arm towards your left shoulder as you step and curve to the left, making sure your elbow is bent.

4.

Try it now, using the arm movements, upperbody arc and legwork combined.

Here we are again at the dig: bring your arms back together in the centre of your body, with elbows bent.


Advanced The double step

The actual dougie includes a double step. This means, instead of going right left - right - left, you’are actually going to double every 3rd step. So your 4-beat combo will be: Right (dip) - Left (dip) - Right (dip) - Right (dip) Left (dip) - Right (dip) - Left (dip) - Left (dip)

Advanced The Dougie Fresh

You know it’s not a real dougie without the dougie fresh, so here goes: on the 3rd step, bring your arm up and around the back of your head instead of across your body - like this:
