NWA Lancaster Dairy Sale Tuesday 15th January January Show and Sale Off with a bang with strong entry and £3,250 top. A great entry totalling 79 there was a real choice of both heifers and cows pedigree and non-registered alike which certainly attracted a great crowd and an ever growing buzz and feel good atmosphere at the market. First off, many thanks to our judge for the day JB & JB Lawson, Bank End Farm, Cockerham. The large number of entries made a challenging job even harder, however, a terrific job was done. A job well done on the judging front it was down to business the judges were clearly focused on taking the day’s champion home with them. Consigned by Drinkall Bros, Pennine Poppy 1376, currently yielding 31.kg having calved on 14th December, sold for £2,300. Drinkall Bros had a strong line up of heifers at the sale with many cruising past the £2,000 mark. Keeping in the rosettes and the reserve champion; Galastar Mogul Ola 2 consigned by Enchanted Holsteins was an absolute cracker of a heifer with her quality reflecting in her taking top price of the day. A PLI of £373, having calved on 24th December and giving 34.kg she was sold for £3,250 and heading to R & RA Jones, Pied House, Garthmyl, Powys. A real eye on quality R & RA Jones also took home a cracking heifer entered by Tomlinson Bilsrow Ltd, Bilsrow Caballero Elite was a heifer with real strength and lots of milk behind her. Having calved on Christmas day and giving 31.kg. A strong entry from Tomlinson Bilsrow Ltd, they reached £2,800 and averaged £2,262.50 for the day which included a second lactation cow. Staying with the heifers, the pick of the group entered by J Burrow & Son, Tunsteads Farm was Stardale Mars Vaakje 3. A real prominent family with 12 generations of very good/ excellent was snapped up by D Davies, Gwndwn Farm, Newinn, Camarthan for £2,500 who also took home Ingleview Dempsey Crystal, with 9 generations behind her she had the looks and the pedigree to boot and was sold for £2,450. We were pleased to welcome first time vendor AE & MK Hayhurst who entered two non-registered animals which included a real milky heifer sired by Motivator, it was yielding 37.kg and was sold to JS & KM Wilson & Son, High House, Longmeadow Lane. Moving onto the cows and with a good number entered, trade for cows was certainly brisk and leading the way was a 2nd calved cow of real quality entered by the Inman Family. Witherslack Solomon Vall, had real strength and plenty of milk, currently yielding 42.kg having calved 27th December. She finally sold for £1,980 and was snapped up by JS & KM Wilson & Son. Other notable entries on the cow front included a real milky 2nd calver entered by regular and supporter to the sale MJ & H Atkinson; Wyredale Alpine Sonya 3 yeilding 40.kg having calved on 31st December and giving 8,464 kg in her first lactation was sold for £1,800 to M J & K Ayrton, Bambers Farm, Moss Lane. Thanks must go to our vendors new and regular for supporting the sale and providing quality animals month on month. Entries increasing for both non-registered and registered animals there really is a cracking buzz around Lancaster.
