Sight Analysis In order to let outside scenery come to inside rooms. This design uses lots of grey interior space. What’s more, the roof of this part is not built on trusses directly. There is empty space between them. In bright sunshine which across trough skylight of roof, the beautiful truss structure add more colors to this indoor space. Many trees are planted on the roof When people look up in this space, different and special scenery will come to their eyes.

T​ his design uses siphon principle to make the wind come to indoor space smoothly. In summer, wind mainly come from south-east direction. When fresh air comes to this building, It will cross the residential part . Then, these air will transform to hot air. And the hot air will rise up, and the empty tank between these two buildings will increase the speed of risen air. Then it also increase the speed of fluid air and achieve cooling effect .

Structure System Intro: This design uses 3 kinds of structure for different kinds of function. The commercial part uses trussed system for more capacious space. Domino System is used for double high-rise building. Because it is suitable for permeable indoor space, people can set partition optionally. Thus, indoor space can be divided into different kinds of parts for various function. Lastly, reticular structure is used for living part. Due to its’ special skin, it can used for controlling light and obtaining broader sight. Because of the limited span of traditional Domino structure system, this building uses the cyclic structure to support the residential part. Leaning from the structure form of Serpentine Gallery, interlaced steel can be made into a strong structure with large span. Considering the volume as a whole, the bigger the structure elements are, the larger the span would be.

There is few natural conditions like the coastal edge that force awareness of our environment. The moment of transition from land to wateroffers an immediate opportunity forus to question what is, what was and what could be. No where is this experience more invigorating than an island-- a place entirely defined by edge. Prompted with the task to plan a completely man-made island, Edge Island seeks to redefine the experience of the edge condition. However, rather than define this new edge autonomously, Edge Island seeks to have a direct relationship to both Haikou and mainland China. These two regions cradle the site as the land masses that define the Hainan Strait. The coordinates of Edge Island are nearer in proximity to Haikou, but there are multiple existing modes of transit across this strait making this location highly accessible from either land mass. Though most of the existing transit is sea faring, China is planning an 18 mile long bridge to connect the edges. We propose that our island link into this system so that the bridge can connect mainland China to Edge Island and then to the Haikou. The result of this linkage is a highly accessible island that celebrates the edge through an array of recreational, commercial and cultural edge programming. This ring of activity follows 14 miles of highly articulated and varied edge equipped with multiple landscapes and water spaces. This programmable region totals 456 acres and acts as a counter to the 186 acres of void landscape. Void of program and maintenance, the island’s interior proposes a new type of national park-- one created by humanity. Together this variable edge and void landscape generate a destination experience that cannot be found in nature and yet also cannot be found in the urban context. It is a composite experience of extremes. On Edge Island you can get lost or you can be found. It can feel like a paradise or a battlefield. It is a place for getting a way and a place for passing through. Somehow it is for everyone, but only belongs to itself.

In addition to our many exterior activities, the island also offers cultural and recreational indoor experiences. A majority of the recreational activities are located in Culture City. These include a sports park, performing arts center, museums and an aquatic center. Additionally there is a large recreation center in Commerce City and a day spa at the Wellness Center.

Two terminals, one for the cruise ships and one for the train, intersect creating a terminal hub. This hub provides convenient and quick access to the nearby convention center. Together these buildings are among the largest and most frequented on the island.

Restaurants and retail are distributed throughout the island. This sparse distribution of smaller businesses allows for many varying experiences within the landscape. For a much more active and concentrated shopping experience, Commerce City’s mall and market are excellent options and support much of the business of the island.

The fluidity with which island visitors can travel between the tram system and Edge Line Park is critical to the functionality of Edge Island. There are 3 direct contact station nodes between Edge Line Park and the tram system and 3 that are a less than 5 minute walk from each other. This allows visitors to choose their circulation experience-- fast and convenient or slow and leisurely.

To access the island’s three density zones a single tram loop follows the edge region of the island. This 4 mile tram allows visitors to travel the entire island in less than ten minutes. The main tram station is located in the terminal hub which connects island visitors arriving by train or cruise ship. Two stops are located at each density zone. For the private villa peninsula, a 1 mile long spur line provides quick and private access to this unique part of the island.

For a more leisurely commute the island offers pedestrians and cyclists to experience the edge on Edge Line Park. This autonomous park system navigates the entire island and offers a nuanced programmatic experiences along its 5.25 mile path. These include an underwater viewing deck, a lagoon boardwalk, and an elevated piazza. Edge Line Park is conveniently accessible with 10 access points located in 10 completely different moments along the island’s edge.

MOMENTS ON A PATH Edge Line Park is the primary form of pedestrian and cyclist transportation on Edge Island. Unlike the tram, which is all about fast, easy travel, Edge Line Park is a destination in itself. With 5.25 miles of trail, this autonomous park system flows across the island through its many zones and edge scapes. On it you can walk on promenade above a lagoon, submerge yourself under the sea, and even get lost in a forest. The goal of Edge Line Park is provide maximum edge experience. In doing so Edge Line Park exposes tourists to all the secrets the island holds.

Intimate House Concept Diagram SITE PLAN

Intro: The site located in 74 bowers street JC 07436, on the corner of Sherman ave, New Jersey. My design sense for this project is using arch gesture to create intimate atmosphere in this apartment and using the fragment of architecture to highly develop the interesting and interactive space in each unit. In this apartment, there are 3 units which has their own entrance and garage. This design keeps each unit have it’s own privacy and also have their sharing public space. Different layer in each unit create multiple space for different function. The arch window gesture create the intimate intersection between people in the apartment and people, nature out of the apartment.

It see you with different faces when you are moving. It reacts to people around itself, meanwhile, reacts to environment around it. Nature comes in and out trough opening and mirrors in the building, people come in and out through their movement during the changing time in whole day. The facade with different angle create different picture or picture frame when you see into the building or out of the building. It’s picture. It’s also frame. Depending on your position towards it, depending on your eye. Enjoy.

Part 01 Site Analysis The site lies in Wuhan, Hubei Province. There is long road distance between this place and center district with dense population. Many villages are located in this site. However there is a lake between this place and other district. Although land transportation is not convenient here, the lake can be used for transportation. What’s more. because of long road distance, this place becomes more mysterious, which is a significant attraction to tourists in the future. In order to attract more people to come here,we should build ports to connect this place to other districts.

Concept and Analysis

Site & Idea

The site lies in Damiao zui island. Although this site is far away from city center,many tourists attractions are located around this site, such as, Luoyan Resort, Moshan Resort, Luojia mountain, etc.

There are many ruins in this site. If there is a new building in front of this site, people cannot see these ruins firstly. The entrance of this building is designed behind this building.

Because of the block of this lake, only a few people know about this place. However, this place lies in the center of these attractions. If connecting these attractions through Damiao zui, people can visit these places in a circle route .These tourist attractions can be connected with each other and develop into tourist center in Wuhan together. Not only can it promote the development of Damiao island, but also can it promote the development of surrounding area or even this city. In order to connect this island to other attractions, we can build new ports and use ships to load people to other side of this lake. Unlike land transportation, water transportation can provide an unique experience for travelers, people can enjoy the beautiful scenery around this lake. The mysterious veil of this site can be opened gradually on this route. People can get away from the bustle and rustle of the city and breath fresh and halcyon air. There are many villages here. Farms, various plants can be found in this place. People can enjoy peaceful environment here and get way from busy life in the city. What’s more, there are many ruins in this site, which are left over here because of financial problem of park-construction. Some people find these place trough Internet information for curiosity about these ruins. The lake around this island makes this place becomes more interesting, tide can cause to some land be overwhelmed. People can experience different travel in different seasons.

People can be lead to the entrance of this building, meanwhile they will find some of ruins in this place. It will stimulate their curiosity, then people may start their exploration of ruins and enjoy the scenery and pleasant in this journey.

Forming Process: Based on Equation= G×m1×m2/(r²)

The project is based on gravitation equation. Each vectors have their own weight and speed. Depending on each vectors’ weight, the vectors attract each other and it makes trails. With local coordinate system, it also makes different trails which are defined by a static point. In very few case, the trails can make symmetrical forms which are the project’s purpose. We applied multiple weights to each vectors. And each vector’s points are connected and make each vector’s surfaces. We put several vectors on a circle and try to make various forms for architectural space.

Asset Urbanism The idea of Megachurch is inspired by John Oliver’s talk show about the criticism of American televangelism. Many televangelists in United States lead an incredibly luxurious life because they get a huge amount of religious donations from their audience, mostly individual offerings. Based on Christian gospel, those people believe when they contribute monetarily to God, God will return with something they desire. It is unbelievable to find that televangelism has such a big influence on people’s life. The popularity of televangelism gave birth to megachurches. While smaller churches are shutting down, megachurches are creating economic empires with modern technologies (from radio, television to Internet). A megachurch receives at least two thousands people a week. They are usually led by a successful televangelist, very charismatic and authoritative. Not only are they redefining the scale of churches, but also changing the traditional worship style - religious activities are becoming more like social gatherings. It is not surprising to find that most people are attracted by the personal character of the celebrity-like pastor, whose personal income reaches 147,000 dollars a year, tax-exempt, compared to 40,000 dollars for an average protestant pastor. Our project design intends to ridicule the phenomenon that religious belief is donated as an exchange of material and monetary luxuries. We apply a technique excessively to create an over-abundance of details in order to critique it in a sarcastic way. The repetitive pinching language generates an overall uplifting atmosphere that corresponds to our project asset.

Cutting Pattern of Wood Panel

Expansion Status

Description The model is consisted of 132 triangle panels and a canvas in between. We combined a series of off-center scissors to shape the final deployed form which is hyperboloid. This model depends on primary shape of folding paper. It can be transformed from flat status to expansion status. The panel can be folded because of the fabric connection between each panel. In order to reduce the weight of whole model, we cut the middle material of each panel. What’s more, the cutting pattern increase the aesthetics of the model. Beside, the form of this model express the expansion strength.
