After reading Elyssa’s Friedland’s highly introspective novel, THE INTERMISSION, one wonders how many of us would secretly love to hit “ pause ” on our marriage, and take a time-out? Enter Cass and Jonathan Coyne successful, attractive, ve years married, on the edge of becoming or NOT becoming parents Friedland skillfully presents a relationship about to get a Shakespearean kick-in-the-butt – to be or not to be To be a wife? To be a parent? To stay in a solid-bordering-meh marriage, or to begin again with a clean slate? Cass, who is tossing and turning these questions, requests an “intermission” – a six-month separation during which they will decide if this is it—is he the ONE and is she the ONE. Naturally as the story unfolds, the reader is embroiled in a complex game of marital hide ‘ n ’ seek until ultimately, truth and love prevail......

I thought I was in for a light read when I started Elyssa Friedland’s novel THE INTERMISSION Just the opposite, it was heavier (in the good way that only good books can be) than I imagined in that it follows a young couple who are each ghting internal battles, unbeknownst to one another They are carrying secrets that each is afraid might rock the very foundation that their relationship is based on. There are other external forces in play that they are each aware of, like the deeply critical mother-in-law, their very different backgrounds, being at different points in their careers, and so on But they have each other and feel lucky for that. Until one day when seemingly out of nowhere, the wife asks for a break. As in a brief separation from their marriage
