This shoot was way overdue in the sensethat Sameer is like a brother to me yet I haven’t featured his car in all this time. Well , there is a good reason for this! I have been searching for the ultimate old school location to shoot this old school beauty and finally it hit me, Church Square in Pretoria. Being an old school car I found it fit that Church Square was the only location that would do this beauty justice.
Firstly lets track back to 1982 when Sameer wasn’t even born when his dad decided to purchase this beautiful firecracker red 1.8GLSCorolla. At first his dad really wanted a Honda but after seeing this beauty on the showroom floor of Toyota he immediately knew that he would rather be seen in a Sprinter than a Ballade! The car is exactly 30 years old, no respraying has been done at all. As you will see in one photo of the bonnet even the old buildings looks new in the reflection.
Very minor cosmetic changessuch as 17” Sugar Ray wheels were added to fill the arches and an HID 8000k kit was fitted to the headlights. Performance wise the original motor has never been opened. It has only been fitted with a 57mm Viper exhaust for that extra grunt. From day one the car has had sheep skin seat covers on it, underneath the covers the seats are brand new. The original tape radio is also there. Everything on the car works 110%just like new. Mileage on the car is at 140 000kms.
This shoot aint about swag, speed or stance, this was a tribute to a true legend. Only a real car enthusiast knows what this car is about. Built strong, with purpose and function that was the motto for Toyota in 1982 when this Corolla left the factory…
As they say “ Box Corollas Never Die” I would personally like to thank the Tshwane Municipality for granting us all permissions and accessto use Church Square as our playground for the morning!
We keep it classy…
