more story before bedtime

Like hearing aids, many of today’s life-changing medical innovations wouldn’t exist without plastics. From resin to recycling, our industry makes a difference in the economy, the environment and the lives of people around the globe. That’s why PLASTICS is dedicated to helping our members make a positive impact every day.

Let’s show the world what we can do, together. PLA S T I C S I N D U S T RY. O R G

WELCOME Every three years, we have the opportunity to gather together to showcase the boldest innovations in plastics, network with international peers and customers and learn from thought leaders who are paving the way forward through their vision for our industry. As the President and CEO of the Plastics Industry Association (PLASTICS), the proud producers of NPE2018: The Plastics Show, it is my pleasure to welcome you to the first-ever Plastics Leadership Summit, designed to help you – CEOs and senior-level management in the plastics industry – hear from experts that will provide senior-level advice tailored to help you understand the factors that determine your company’s success. We were intentional about creating educational programming for this show to better position NPE2018: The Plastics Show as a hub for industry education and knowledge. I learned that there was a group whose educational needs had been somewhat overlooked in the past – plastics CEOs and senior-level management – and from this realization, the Plastics Leadership Summit was born. The Summit is organized to cover the business side of plastics through three unique lenses – Profit, Product and Production – to ensure you’re improving your understanding of each of the critical factors that determine your company’s success. • Profit (Day 1): Focus on taking advantage of capital markets for expansion both internally and through acquisition • Product (Day 2): Focus on projected demand for existing and new product ideas in the medical, consumer products, aerospace and proprietary plastics manufacturing sectors • Production (Day 3): Focus on topics ranging from workforce development to the latest innovations in manufacturing, like the Internet of Things (IoT) and smart manufacturing During the next three days of half-day symposia, featuring two plenary talks, interactive panel discussion and networking opportunities, you’ll hear from recognized experts in finance, sales and marketing, manufacturing, economics and more. Then, you’ll have the opportunity to apply what you’ve learned at the summit to make the important business decisions you’ll be inspired to make on the NPE2018 show floor. We’re thrilled you’ve decided to join us for this opportunity to not only expand your knowledge, but to see the breadth of NPE2018: The Plastics Show and the value it delivers to your organization and the entire industry. Again, welcome and enjoy the first-ever Plastics Leadership Summit. He is driven by the principles instilled in him by his roots in the manufacturing town of Chillicothe, Ohio, where his grandfather worked at a Mead plant for nearly four decades and where he witnessed manufacturing’s ability to raise the quality of life for families and communities. Jay’s knowledge and expertise is valued and respected by influential policymakers on both sides of the aisle in Congress and the Administration. He knows how to navigate the complexities of the policymaking process in the nation’s capital and brings with him an exceptional understanding of manufacturing issues. Prior to his appointment as NAM president, Jay was executive vice president beginning in 2008. In 2005, he joined the NAM as senior vice president of policy and government relations. His previous experience includes serving as chief of staff to Congressman, Governor and Senator George Allen (R-VA) from 1991 to 2002, and a term as executive director of the National Republican Senatorial Committee during the 2004 election cycle. When he first came to Washington in the 1980s, he served as press secretary to Congressman Jim Martin (R-NC) and later Alex McMillan (R-NC). A passionate advocate for the adoption of companion animals, Jay served for seven years as the Chairman of the Washington Humane Society Board of Directors, and led the successful effort to merge WHS and the Washington Animal Rescue League to create the Humane Rescue Alliance. He is also a member of the board of the U.S Chamber Institute for Legal Reform. Jay attended The Ohio State University and resides in McLean, Virginia with his husband, Rick, and their three children.
