Becky’s Movie Previews So we’ve made it to the end of the year. It might not have been the best of years but there’s been plenty of amazing films to get us through it. Well the year isn’t over yet so here is what is on this festive month.

Coming Soon… Sully This is the true story about a US Airways Pilot who in January 2009 managed to land the aircraft he was flying on the Hudson River in New York when both engines failed shortly after take off. Barely 3 minutes into the flight at approximately 2,800 feet had they struck a flock of geese, disabling both engines and rendering it impossible to reach an airport safely. Captain Chesley ‘Sully’ Sullenberger (Tom Hanks; Forrest Gump, Cast Away) manages to land the aircraft on the Hudson without a single casualty. In the wake of the event the media hailed him a hero but the experience left Sully with PTSD, repeatedly imagining the plane

crashing into a building. To make matters worse, the investigation into the crash suggests that one of the engines was still running and that it was possible to make it to a nearby airport. As a result of pilot error, which would effectively end his career, he needs to prove to the investigative board, and himself, that what he did was the only option and the only way to save the lives of those on board. With Hanks heading up the cast and Clint Eastwood in the director’s chair (The Changeling, American Sniper) this is sure to be a well shot drama which will have you rooting for the pilot from beginning to end. Release date: 2nd December

Moana There is no doubt in my mind that Moana will not only appeal to kids but to adults as well as this is Disney’s next offering and follows the story of an adventurous Polynesian teenager (Auli’I Cravalho) who sets sail on a daring mission in order to help save her people. Whilst on her mission, she comes across the once-mighty demigod Maui (Dwayne Johnson; Fast and Furious, Central Intelligence) who guides her in her quest. They sail across the ocean on an action-packed voyage, encountering enormous monsters and impossible odds. On the way to saving those she loves, she may just discover something she didn’t know she sought, her own identity.

14

A new direction for Disney, they cast 14 year old Hawaiian native Auli’l for the voice of Moana and the soundtrack features authentic music too. Always a fun offering from the Disney giants this will definitely draw in the crowds, especially with school holidays coming up as well. Release date: 2nd December

Office Christmas Party We couldn’t get away without a festive film in December. Although this isn’t the usual sweetness and light serving we usually get at this time of year. This film focuses on the renowned office Christmas party which is dreaded for a number of reasons including the consequences of having a little too much to drink and making a fool of yourself in front of the boss. The CEO of a large company (Jennifer Aniston; Friends, Horrible Bosses) tries to close the branch run by her bard-partying brother Clay (T.J Miller; Deadpool, Cloverfield). So he decides, along with his Chief Technical Officer (Jason Bateman; Horrible Bosses, Juno), that they must rally their co-workers and host the most epic

office Christmas party in an effort to land a potential client and close a sale that will save all their jobs. Not your usual festive cheer but if it’s something a little different that you’re after then this is for you Release date: 7th December

Collateral Beauty A successful New York advertising executive (Will Smith; Independence Day, Men in Black) begins to worry those that care about him when he retreats from life following a great tragedy. While his concerned friends desperately try to reconnect with him, he seeks answers from the universe by writing letters to Love, Time and Death. It’s not until his notes bring unexpected personal responses that he begins to understand how these constants interconnect in a life fully lived, and how even the deepest of losses can reveal moments of true meaning and beauty.

Christmas is almost here!! I absolutely LOVE it but as always it brings the usual stresses of present buying, socialising and the expectation of being merry. This month I wanted to offer you some quick tips for fighting the Christmas stress! 1) Remember and repeat – “this too shall pass”! This is a phrase I learned to believe in whole-heartedly when I had my son a couple of years ago. It may feel like it’s never ending, but you won’t be queuing forever. The work Xmas party will be over in a few hours. Hang in there - it passes. Christmas lasts a couple of weeks and then it’s all over for another fifty! 2) Learn how to calm down. I’ve mentioned 7/11 breathing in a heap of previous articles. It works! Use positive self-talk and conscious muscle relaxation to cope and ease the strain and the panic. 3) Check your diet. Boring – it’s Christmas which means a box of orange Matchmakers definitely counts as one of my 5 a day. But too much indulgence will leave you sluggish, tired and probably in a sugar crash where you’ll feel extra

grumpy and bah-humbug like! Grab a satsuma and some nuts! 4) Get more sleep. It’s the season of office parties, kid’s plays and seeing absent relatives, often who live far away. We cram a lot into our Christmas holidays (if we’re lucky enough to get time off from work) and this often leaves us sleep-deprived, rather than rested. Take time to get some extra sleep where you can. You don’t have to cram every minute full and you don’t have to accept every invitation. 5) Plan ahead. As much as there is to fit in, there’s nothing quite as head exploding as being ready to set off to a family party only to realise that you need to wrap some presents for some people that you won’t see again. It’s not worth the stress. Get organised avoiding stress is a whole heap better than dealing with it!! I hope that some of these tips are useful and I wish you all a very happy and calm Christmas and huge best wishes for the new year ahead! See you next month.
