out of their lives.” The insider adds, “If I were in Leah’s shoes, I would certainly be telling myself that Tom is a total phony!” There may be even more trouble brewing. Talks of a second season for the show are under way, “and if that’s green-lighted, you’d have to assume Leah has dug up even more bombshells and revelations,” the source says. “That might include the mysterious disappearance of David’s wife, Shelly, who vanished nine years ago and hasn’t been seen in public since. I’d have to believe that the church might be running scared about that.” If tensions indeed escalate, “you’d have to wonder if Tom can keep his distance and stay quiet,” the source adds. But with the memory of Cruise angrily taking Matt Lauer to task on TV in 2005, after Matt defended Brooke Shields for taking antidepressants for her postpartum depression (something the church does not believe in), “if Tom decides to speak out, he’s going to have to be very careful not to fly off the handle again.” SUPPORT SYSTEM In the meantime, Leah is already girding up for battle. “As a former member, Leah says she knows what they’re capable of,” says the insider, who claims: “I’m sure she can handle any intimidation or dirty tricks the church might throw at her.” In fact, Tom’s own divorce from Katie Holmes provided fodder for speculation about the church’s tactics, when hulking mystery men in SUVs appeared to tail her and her daughter, Suri, in NYC, after she split from Tom in 2012. “I’d be shocked if Katie hasn’t secretly called Leah numerous times to tell her to stand strong and offer her support,” claims the source. Adds the insider: “You have to commend Leah for bravely stepping forward and speaking her mind. She’s a woman on a mission, but it’s a real David and Goliath battle, and there’s no disputing Tom’s immense power when it comes to defending Scientology. I’m sure Leah will be watching her back.” H

Katie and her daughter, Suri, looked tense and on their guard in NYC, just weeks after she filed for divorce against Tom.

On July 1, 2012 — just two days after Katie filed for divorce from Tom — two Escalade SUVs with blacked-out windows parked outside her NYC apartment (right). Speculation immediately arose that the silent and muscu-lar mysterious men who were in the vehicles were a team of Scientology operatives trying to intimidate Tom’s soon-tobe ex-wife.
