‘bowie’s first word was buster!’
OK!’s kirsty hatcher catches up with ‘emmerdale’ couple charley webb and matthew wolfenden as they mark their son bowie’s first birthday, and reveal how buster is a ‘brilliant’ big brother
en months have passed since we last saw Charley Webb and Matthew Wolfenden’s adorable son Bowie, and we can barely believe how much he’s grown! Sporting a full head of gorgeous blond hair, chubby cheeks and big blue eyes, the tot looks angelic – but that hasn’t stopped him earning himself the nickname ‘Wreck-It Ralph’! ‘We call him Wreck-It Ralph because he’s like a little cannonball rolling around the house, pushing things out of his way!’ says Matthew, 36. Bowie turned one in December and his Emmerdale star parents celebrated with a tea party at their home in Leeds. They were surrounded by friends and family, including Bowie’s six-year-old brother Buster. From the moment we arrive for our exclusive shoot, it’s clear how close the two boys are. Bowie’s face lights up every time he sees him as Buster excitedly says: ‘How big is Bowie!’ The last year has been a busy one for the family. Matthew has tackled his most challenging storyline to date on the ITV soap, with his character David Metcalfe overcoming testicular cancer and tying the knot with Tracy Shankley (Amy Walsh). The spectacular ceremony featured a Steps dance routine, mud and a tractor! Charley returned to the Dales on November 28 after a year of maternity leave. There was no rest for the wicked, however, as her feisty character Debbie Dingle was straight back to it with a big storyline. Her explosive return will see Debbie on the run after spending the last year in France. It remains to be seen who she’s running from, and why she needs a lot of money in a hurry! The star, who will be back on our screens on January 24, admits her first day back on the set wasn’t easy. ‘I did walk into the dressing room and burst into tears,’ the 28 year old tells OK!, adding: ‘I think it’s because the day was
finally there, and I’d been anxious about leaving Bowie.’ Meanwhile, Buster seems to have inherited much of his parents’ creative talent, showing off his singing skills and his body-popping dance moves to OK!. And it seems Bowie’s name is fitting, as he’s a music fan, too! He can’t help bouncing up and down as his nanny, Claire, plays Fleur East’s Sax on her iPhone. Charley and Matthew met on the Dales 11 years ago, and began dating in 2007. They welcomed Buster
OK! met Bowie on our exclusive shoot last year
Matthew shaved his head for his character David’s cancer storyline three years later and got engaged on Christmas Day in 2009. They now reveal that a wedding is still on the cards – but only once they’ve finished adding to their brood! ‘I want four children and Charley wants three, but I reckon I can persuade her!’ laughs Matthew. Here, the couple tell OK! all about Charley’s Emmerdale return, when they’ll finally walk down the aisle, and their plans for more children…
How have you adjusted to having two kids? Charley: It’s amazing. Matthew: It does feel different with two of them. We feel like more of a gang and a family unit. It’s great. Charley: I felt better in myself quicker with Bowie than I did after having Buster. I got the baby blues with Buster, whereas with Bowie I’ve been fine. Has it changed your relationship with each other? Charley: It revolves around the kids more. With Buster we still had a bit of time to ourselves, but with two of them it’s more about them and you as a family. Matthew: We went to the cinema. We do have our evenings back now, but we’re mainly in bed watching Dexter. Charley: I’ve also found I’ve been exhausted now I’m back in work. Matthew: Yeah, I don’t know if it’s changed our relationship, I think we’ve just become more tired! You look amazing, Charley… Thank you! I’ve been doing a bit of yoga with Roxy [Shahidi, who plays Leyla Harding]. I watch her do it in the dressing room and just sit in fascination because she’s so bendy! What was your first day back on set like? It was really overwhelming. I was feeling really anxious about it and I don’t think I realised just how anxious I was until I got there. Did you get upset? I did walk into my dressing room and burst into tears. Thankfully there was no one else in there. I think it’s because the day was finally there and I’d been anxious about leaving Bowie. It was almost a bit of a relief at the same time, because the date had just been looming. I think I was getting myself more and more worked up. It’s a big life change, but I absolutely love my job and it’s been great being back.

Charley and Matthew are adjusting to life with their boys, Buster and Bowie, with Matthew telling OK!: ‘It does feel different with two of them. We feel like more of a gang and a family unit’
Were your fellow cast members supportive? They’ve all been great. I share a dressing room with Zoe Henry [who plays Rhona Goskirk] and she made me the most amazing soup and she also bought me a love heart trinket with the word ‘Bowie’ on it. I’m sure it was a David Bowie badge, but it was the best touch. I was also with Jeff [Hordley, who plays Debbie’s dad Cain Dingle] and Emma [Atkins, who plays Debbie’s mum Charity Dingle] all day, so I was with the right people. Matthew: We’re also so lucky to have Claire, our nanny. She’s the best nanny in the world and it’s made things a lot easier. How long has Claire been with you? Charley: Almost a year and a half now. Matthew: She’s brilliant with Bowie. If he’s with us and Claire comes in, he puts his arms out for her. Charley: If I’ve been at work all day and she’s had him, then I’ve got no chance! He just wants her. Some people say to me: ‘Oh God, don’t you hate that?’ or ‘You can’t have a nanny. Why do you want someone else picking up your children?’ But for me it’s the best thing because I just know he’s happy when we’ve gone to work. I would love for her to stay with us…
Matthew: [To Charley] Forever?! Charley: [Laughing] Yes, forever! It literally feels like she was sent to us from above. There was no way I would have gone back to work and left him with someone I’d just met. It would have been horrendous. She’s the next best thing to having us there. There are no tears when we go off to work and that’s what I needed. Matthew: At some point he will be going to nursery, too. We physically couldn’t do the jobs that we do without someone to help us. One of us would have to give up work and neither of us wants to do that. Did you miss work, Charley? To be honest, I got into such a good routine with Bowie that I didn’t really have time to miss it. I had a year off and I’ve worked since I was 14, so it was nice to have time off and just enjoy it. In the end, going back was fine. I’ve loved it and I’ve only missed one bedtime so far. I do miss him during the day, but everyone’s made it easier. Have you gone straight back into a big storyline? Charley: I have. I’m going to be full on for the next year at least. I can’t really reveal anything, but it’s going to hugely affect the whole Dingle family. What’s next for David, Matthew? Something’s been mentioned to follow on from him surviving cancer. If it did happen, it’d be great as it’s never been done in a soap before. But the next stuff everyone will see is Tracy writing erotic novels. It’s very funny! It must have been full-on with your testicular cancer storyline happening when Bowie was a newborn… It was. All my hair came off when Bowie was only a matter of months old – that was all he knew of me at first! It was a fantastic storyline; it just fell at quite a hard time for us with a newborn baby. I had to go in at 7am every day to shave my hair and eyebrows and we were sharing feeds through the night. It was good, though; I was going to work looking absolutely dreadful. Someone said to me: ‘That make-up is fantastic.’ I thought, that’s not make-up, that’s me!
Above: Matthew and Buster have a kickabout! Top: The proud father with his two sons
How is Bowie sleeping? Charley: We’ve had him set in a routine since day one. He goes down at 7pm and he’s up at 5.30am. He’s the lightest sleeper ever and he talks in his sleep. We have to creep around the house! But then sometimes he’ll stand up in the middle of the night and rattle his cot and shout as loud as he can when he wants attention. Matthew: We call him Wreck-It Ralph. He’s like a little cannonball rolling around the house, pushing things out of his way! At Christmas, when we’d put him to bed and come back downstairs, it looked like

we’d been robbed. There were decorations everywhere and open cupboards. Is he still sleeping in your room? Charley: Yes. I’m still having weird feelings about putting him in his own room. I didn’t want to do it before I went back to work; I felt like I was cut off from him if two big things happened all at once. I love that feeling of him being in our room and being able to hear him. I’m quite a light sleeper so I check on him about ten times a night!

Do you think you’d feel anxious if you moved him into his nursery now? Charley: I think I would. Most of my friends who have children of a similar age had them out of their room at six months, and they’re like, why have you still got him in there? Matthew didn’t want to put him in his own room either. At about eight months, I was like, right, I think we should put him in his own room now. But he said no way, so Bowie is probably going to be in our room until he’s 18! He was previously suffering from reflux – does he still have it? Charley: It’s fine now, thankfully. It was the biggest relief when it ended. It was horrendous and so stressful, because we had to take so many clothes with us whenever we went out as he was sick over himself all the time. Matthew: You would panic every time you gave him a bottle because you knew it was all going to come up. Who do you think he looks like? Matthew: Everyone says he’s my double. He’s a chubbier version of me [laughs]! He’s got my blond hair and blue eyes. Buster looks just like Charley. Charley: They’re polar opposites. One is blond and one’s brown and one has green eyes and the other has blue eyes. Personality-wise, Buster’s a real livewire and Bowie’s quite shy. Bowie turned one on December 19. What did you do for his birthday? Charley: We had a tea party at home with loads of people and all his little friends from the classes we’ve been going to, like baby swimming. Matthew: He had a brilliant time ripping all the paper off his presents. Buster bought him a Hatchimal [a hatching toy animal]! Did you find the day emotional? Matthew: We did. It’s emotional when it’s any birthday for your kids, but we just can’t believe he’s one already. The time does fly, so you really make the most of the moments you have with them. You tweeted that Bowie has said his first word. What was it? Charley: Buster! Matthew: It came out as ‘Bu-Ba’, but it was definitely Buster. Buster was very pleased. If Buster is ever shouting for us he always says: ‘Daaaad!’ and now
Bowie has started saying ‘Daaaad!’ too. It’s like his war cry! How has Buster adjusted to being a big brother? Matthew: He’s brilliant. They’re obsessed with each other. When Buster is in the room, Bowie does not leave him alone. It’s gorgeous to see. You’ve said he’s keen on modelling… Matthew: He’s just started asking if he can do it. He really enjoys having his photo taken. He loves trying on the clothes, pouting and being cool. Charley: If that’s what he wants to do, then we would never stop him.
‘when buster is in the room, bowie does not leave him alone’ What about singing? Charley: He’s really good. He was singing a Jess Glynne song the other day and I just had to record it. He won’t listen to himself back, though. We got him a karaoke machine for Christmas and he was absolutely thrilled with it. Matthew: We also got a projector screen for their playroom and we’ve linked it up to the karaoke machine, so he can have the lyrics on a big screen. He’s been singing away to Justin Bieber! He doesn’t want to act at all but he does want to get on the stage and sing. He also goes to street dance classes. He had a show the other night and he got up and sang Cold Water. He was brilliant! Who do you think he gets it from? Matthew: Charley is a good singer and I did five years in the West End. We’ve always sung with him and encouraged him, although I think he’s naturally talented. He’s better than me!
The Beckhams have been criticised for letting their 11-year-old son Cruz release a charity single. What are your thoughts on that? Charley: If Buster wanted to do something like that at 11 years old and that was his choice, then I don’t understand why anyone would be bothered. We would allow him to do it. If Victoria and David Beckham want their son to release a single and he wants to do it, then that’s their prerogative. Matthew: Buster has his own mind now and he’s six, so if Cruz is nearly twice as old as that then I don’t see what’s wrong. Charley: If your children want to do something and have ambitions then you shouldn’t stop them. The problem is that people will criticise anything when you’re in the public eye. Do you receive negative comments? Charley: I do, but I don’t read any of it. I laugh at them. The things that people say about me, like I’m miserable, they don’t even know me. Would you like more children? Charley: Definitely, if it’s possible. We don’t know when, but I’d love more. Matthew: We’ve always wanted a big family. We talk about it, so hopefully we’re lucky enough to have another. A lot of our friends that have two said it will either make you want to stop right there and then, or have lots more. Bowie has been such a dream that we definitely want more. Charley: I think if I had a two year old running around and then had Bowie, I’d probably be thinking absolutely no more! It would be completely impossible. But there’s quite a big gap between Bowie and Buster. Have you thought about the ideal time for your next one? Charley: Not really, as I’ve only just gone back to work. But we wouldn’t want to leave the same age gap as we have with the boys. We definitely want two closer together, but we have no immediate plans. Are you still keen to have a girl, Matthew? I would love a little girl. Of course the dad wants a little princess, rather than another smelly boy [laughs]! Charley: I’m just happy if they’re healthy. That’s all that matters.
Matthew as David Metcalfe, with on-screen wife Tracy (Amy Walsh)
‘We definitely Want to get married, but another little one Will be first’
When is your anniversary? Charley: We don’t actually know the exact date we got together, so we don’t ever really celebrate it, but it’s ten years this year. Matthew: We’ll start celebrating our anniversaries once we’re married. As it’s ten years, though, we will do something special to mark it. Now and again we go on city breaks and last year we went to Venice. I’ve been telling Charley I’m going to take her to Rome and show her the sights, so we may do that! Was it love at first sight when you met? Charley: No! Matthew: [To Charley] Thanks! The first time I met Charley it was when I’d just been offered the part of David. We were at an awards do and the press team were introducing me to people. Charley was really unwell and she kind of just said: ‘Oh, hi,’ and then walked off! That was our first meeting. I didn’t think she was very nice. Then we met again and she told me she was ill. [Joking] And then I really got to know her and I realised that’s actually how she is all the time [laughs]! I reckon she did fancy me the first time she saw me, though. What did you do for your first date? Charley: [To Matthew] I don’t think we had

an official first date, did we? We’d been working together for quite a while... Matthew: At the time we were both quite young and there was a really young cast, so we used to go out as a group all the time. Charley: That still happens, we’re just not part of it [laughs]! What did you get each other for Christmas? Matthew: We promised we wouldn’t get each other anything this year and just concentrate on the kids, but I felt too guilty to not get Charley anything. I bought her a skull and crossbones ring from this quirky jewellery website. It then turned out that she’d ordered me an espresso machine, so despite saying we wouldn’t get each other anything, we did! Did David’s wedding to Tracy make you think about tying the knot?
Matthew: Well, we’re always talking about weddings… Charley: We just don’t have the time! Matthew: Yeah, we keep having babies. We’ll try for another baby before we plan our wedding. People keep asking us and we definitely will, it’s just when. We definitely want to get married, but another little one will be first. Charley: We’d like to have all of our children at our wedding. Some people are really bothered about it and want to do it before they have children, but it’s a really special day, so why wouldn’t you want your kids there to experience it? Matthew: We’ll have all the kids first so they can be bridesmaids and pageboys. Have you tried on any dresses, Charley? Oh God no! I don’t even know what I’d wear. I think we’ll just end up doing it on our own with just the kids. Two of our friends ran away and got
married and one of my friends got married with just the kids, and they didn’t tell anyone until after it happened. They’d been together for 15 years. I wouldn’t want it to be huge because I wouldn’t want all eyes on me. It’s just not really our style. If we did it big I’d have so many bridesmaids, I actually don’t know what I’d do. My sister had ten and I think I’d probably be up there with her! You’ve not got your engagement ring on, Charley – don’t tell us you’ve lost it? [Laughs] No! It’s somewhere safe. I’m not wearing it because I’m getting the band changed. It’s gold at the moment and I want to change the colouring, but that’s another thing we haven’t had time to do! I might get the boys’ names engraved on it when I get it changed. What did you do for New Year’s Eve? Matthew: We were supposed to be having three WWW.OK.CO.UK 13

Two memorial services are being planned, allowing family and friends to pay their respects. George’s old friend and collaborator Sir Elton John is said to be lined up to perform at one of the funerals. George will be laid to rest beside his mother at Highgate Cemetery in London, where the family have a private plot. Meanwhile, it has been reported that ‘familyorientated’ George has left the ‘lion’s share’ of his £105 million fortune to his ‘favourite’ big sister, who travelled the world

Wearing a pink and black cutaway bikini from Agent Provocateur, the 27 year old showed off the results of her training for Strictly Come Dancing as she soaked up the sun in Miami. The model looked to be having the time of her life as she laughed and splashed in the sea in a pair of black sunglasses. Opening up about her figure during training for the show, Daisy said: ‘I feel more athletic. My measurements haven’t changed much but my entire body has tightened. There’s definitely been some weight loss. I’m losing inches all over.’ But it wasn’t just Daisy’s figure that was causing a stir on the beach. Sparking rumours of a new romance, she was seen

Daisy wore a leopardprint bikini from Fifi Chachnil with a pair of colourful shorts, while her mystery companion wore a pair of blue shorts and an open striped shirt. Daisy was ringing in the New Year across the pond after celebrating Christmas in Puerto Rico. The star has been single since November after splitting from boyfriend Frankie Wade due to her time commitments with Strictly. And things aren’t set to slow down any time soon as Daisy will soon get stuck back into her training for the Strictly Come Dancing Live! tour, which begins on January 20 in Birmingham.
The star will once again be taking to the floor with her dance partner Aljaž Škorjanec, 26, who was also swapping the freezing temperatures in the UK for some winter sun as he joined Daisy on the beach with his fiancée and fellow Strictly professional Janette Manrara, 33. Clearly striking up a lasting friendship, Daisy was pictured laughing with the couple – who will tie the knot this year – and Miami-born Janette’s brother Alejandro. The foursome looked to be getting on famously as they walked out of the sea, with Janette and Aljaž showing off their toned bodies in bright swimwear. Peter, 43, captioned the image: ‘Tired are ya?… We must be related… wait, we are. Awesome,’ with a baby bottle emoji. It’s no wonder Peter and his tot are both feeling sleepy – his wife Emily recently admitted to OK! that their newborn has been keeping them up in the night ever since they welcomed him into the world on November 22 last year. As Emily recovers following her C-section, Peter has revealed that he’s been more hands on with their daughter Amelia, who turned three on January 7. ‘Emily’s recovering well, but she still can’t do things like lift Mills, which I think is what Mills has found hardest, so I’ve had to take on a much more prominent role at the moment with her,’ he said, adding: ‘She understands why Mummy has to spend more time with Theo, but she does get upset sometimes.’ Peter has also revealed how he’s splashed out on a ‘push present’ for his wife following Theo’s birth. ‘I wanted to buy Emily a present for giving me our beautiful son, so I bought her a diamond-encrusted Gucci watch,’ he said. ‘When I gave it to her, I told her: “You better love me now!”’
For New Year’s Eve, the couple donned flower garlands, flamingo sunglasses, beach balls and even posed with giant bananas (below) to host a Hawaiianthemed party in Somerset, where Emily’s parents live. the beckhams share their holiday – but there’s trouble in paradise!
fter a jampacked 2016, the Beckhams needed little excuse to let their hair down on a family holiday in the far-flung Maldives. David and Victoria, who were joined by their children Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz and Harper, hooked up with their good friends Gordon and Tana Ramsay as they soaked up the sun at luxury five-star resort Amilla Fushi. The Ramsay children – Jack, Elizabeth, Holly and Megan – were also there to enjoy the trip, which was reportedly arranged by Victoria to ring in the New Year. The former Spice Girl organised a huge party to celebrate the arrival of 2017 and recruited her close friend Melanie C to perform at the event – with the pair even sharing the stage to perform the band’s hit 2 Become 1! Cruz, 11, who released a charity Christmas single last month, also got up on stage to entertain guests with his guitar and vocal skills. During the luxurious break, the Beckhams posed together for a family picture on the beach (above right). David, 41, shared the image on Instagram writing: ‘Happy new year everyone x.’ Victoria also posted a picture of Harper, four, writing a sweet message to her parents in the sand (below). She captioned the photo: ‘Kisses from my baby girl X VB.’

Reports following the event revealed that David almost came to blows with former F1 boss Ron Dennis, who was also celebrating with a large group at the resort, over an issue with the seating plan. The former footballer apparently ‘flipped’ over Ron’s ‘rude’ comments. However, another source said: ‘Voices were raised but it was all a storm in a teacup.’ Meanwhile, fashion designer Victoria was named in the Queen’s New Year’s Honours list and received an OBE for services to fashion. Sources close to the 42-year-old star said she was ‘delighted and humbled for the recognition’ adding: ‘Victoria is incredibly proud of the fashion brand she has built and ever thankful for her amazing team.’ OK!

‘the voice uk’ special
‘it’s nice cheryl has got her happy ending’ the coaches speak to ok!’s laura hills about the new series, kicking off with will.i.am, who shares his happiness for his friend cheryl
hen Will.i.am first heard that The Voice UK was moving to ITV, he wasn’t sure whether he should continue his coaching role on the show. ‘I thought I was BBC for life,’ Will tells OK! ahead of the first episode airing. The only coach to have taken part in all six series of the show, the 41 year old is very much a Voice veteran and will be rejoined by Sir Tom Jones, who was controversially dropped from the show back in 2015, and new coaches Gavin Rossdale and Jennifer Hudson. The competition will no doubt be stiff between the coaches and, after winning the show in 2013 with Jermain Jackman, the Black Eyed Peas star is keen to succeed again. Here, Will talks to OK! about shaping up for the show and recording music with his new co-star Jennifer…
Have you had chance to catch up with Cheryl recently? She’s awesome. I’m so happy that she’s happy. She was always in and out of bad relationships so it’s nice she’s got a happy ending. She’s pregnant, which is good for her, I’m very happy for her. I’ve not met Liam [Payne] but he seems like a nice guy. Would you like to collaborate with any of the coaches on new music? I know Jennifer’s manager and I told him I really want to work with her. We need to get into the studio together! Are you enjoying working with Jennifer and Gavin? 28
I like how smooth Gavin is, he’s so calm. Then to have Jennifer on the panel is spectacular, I think she deserves her own show. She’s made an amazing career for herself after coming seventh on a show like this. Someone we compete with actually told her no. Simon Cowell told her no on American Idol, but she turned a ‘no’ into a ‘know’. You’re known for being on your phone a lot during the live shows, will that be the same this year? I like to be on my phone because it means I can communicate with a wider audience. There are plenty of people out there watching the show while also looking at social media on their phone and laptop. It allows me to talk to those people. For example, I tweet, saying: ‘If I say dope, pause your TV and post a picture of it,’ and people do it. Then I repost what they put up and they feel like I’m talking directly to them. Was any part of you hesitant about signing up to the show now it’s on ITV? I was a bit torn at first. I didn’t think I wanted to go to ITV, that’s where The X Factor is at and I thought I was BBC for life. I was worried the commercial breaks could kill it, too. Then I was told I could wear whatever I wanted. The BBC had so many rules about what we could wear! I’m going to slim down for the live shows, so I can wear things I look really good in. You’re going to see me in tank tops, no more baggy clothes! Are you going to be hitting the gym? I want to be slim and trim so I don’t think I’ll be pumping iron. My Black Eyed Peas bandmate Taboo [Jaime Gomez] beat cancer recently, so he’s really driving us all to get healthy. If he can beat cancer, I can lose some pounds and stay away from food that isn’t good for me. OK!

‘i was told not to read comments about myself’ Jennifer Hudson on developing a thick skin, working out and her admiration for simon cowell
ennifer Hudson has come a long way since her time as a contestant on American Idol. Since coming seventh on the show in 2004, Jennifer has had three topselling albums, won a Grammy Award and taken home a Golden Globe, Oscar and BAFTA for her debut film role in Dreamgirls. However, there have also been some heartbreaking times for the 35 year old since she found fame. In 2008, Jennifer’s mother and brother were shot dead inside her home and her nephew was found dead three days later. It was later discovered that they had been killed by Jennifer’s estranged brother-in-law, William Balfour. Opening up about the tragedy, Jennifer recently revealed: ‘My mother always told me no matter how negative your life seems to be, you must always look for a positive.’ She added: ‘For the most part it’s not [William’s] fault. It’s how he was brought up. We tried to offer love, but you were so far gone that you couldn’t see that.’ Jennifer has a sevenyear-old son, David, from her relationship with her fiancé, WWE wrestler David Otunga. Here Jennifer opens up about her journey to the top, ignoring negativity and her plans to get in shape for the live shows…
Do you think The Voice is more positive than shows like American Idol and The X Factor? It is, but I agree with our way of doing things and also how Simon Cowell does things. He prepares people for the industry. Going through such a gruelling process with Simon meant that afterwards not a lot fazed me. Criticism prepares you in a very necessary way, you need to know if you have a tough enough skin for this industry. Have you developed a thicker skin since American Idol? You have to or else you wouldn’t be able to make it in this industry. When I started out I was told not to read comments about myself – every once in a while I have to remind myself. I’m not on Twitter any more so that I can avoid all the negativity.
‘i’m not on twitter so i can avoid the negativity’
How are you finding your time on The Voice? I love it, it’s been such a fun experience and I love working with the judges. I didn’t watch any previous shows because I wanted to avoid any nerves. It means that I’m still discovering things about the process, even now. I like things to be real, I didn’t want to look like I was too prepared at any stage.
What’s it like being on the other side of the judging panel? Firstly, we’re coaches, not judges, which I really like. It’s amazing being on the other side of things. I remember when I was a contestant and I relive that moment every time I hear an audition. It sends me right back to that time.
What will you do to prepare yourself for the live shows? One of my New Year’s resolutions is to be more active and physical. I want to start working out more, so then I’ll be ready for you guys! How often do you work out? I’m mainly just conscious of what I put in my body. I believe you should eat what you want in moderation. People often compliment my skin and I get that from my mum. OK! ‘gwen is so great at it’
gavin rossdale is full of praise for his ex-wife, who sits in her own mentoring chair across the pond
tarting a new job is always daunting, but luckily Gavin Rossdale could turn to his former wife Gwen Stefani for some tips about his new role as a coach on The Voice. Gwen is currently a coach on the uS version of the show, and despite their 13-year marriage coming to an end in 2015 following rumours Gavin had cheated on the singer, he says she was quick to congratulate him on landing a place on the panel. The pair have three children together, kingston, ten, Zuma, eight, and two-yearold apollo. during his time filming for The Voice in the uk, Gavin – who is usually based in the States – has been spending some quality time with daisy Lowe, his daughter from his relationship with Pearl Lowe. Here, Gavin, 51, talks about his decision to join the panel and spending time with his family…
Above: On getting the job, Gavin says his ex-wife Gwen (above right) told him ‘congratulations and good luck’
Did Gwen give you any advice about joining The Voice? She didn’t give me any advice, but she said congratulations and good luck. When I watch her on the show it seems like such an easy thing for her to do, she’s so great at it.
How did you prepare for the role? When they called me up to do it, I didn’t have the time to be cool or stand-offish. I was just like, cool, yeah sure. I just knew there was an incredible opportunity here. I want to nurture people to become artists. Do you feel you need to work harder to get acts on your team because you’re new? I was useless at the start! The bottom line is, the fit comes naturally – when you hear a voice and you want it, it comes together. Right now you’re best known for being in Bush, but are you happy to be known by some people for just The Voice? I’ll take it. Most people in the uk don’t know a lot about me, they don’t really know me as ‘Gavin from Bush’ so I guess I would just be ‘Gavin from The Voice’. Has it been nice having more time to catch up with Daisy now you’re in the UK? I usually just pop here and then I have to go back, so this time I’ll have more time to see family and friends. The Voice don’t give us loads of time off, but when I get time I’ll just be catching up with family and friends. Will your sons be watching the show? yes, although I’m not sure how at the moment. They’re excited to see it, but at the same time they’re quite blasé about it!

‘it wasn’t the bbc’ sir tom jones on his departure… and return!
ans were devastated after his departure from The Voice back in 2015, but as Sir Tom Jones rejoins the panel for ITV’s revamped version of the show, there’s no sign of him slowing down. The 76-year-old music legend has a series of live gigs lined up and recently revealed his plans to get back in the studio, all on top of offering his expert advice as a coach to this year’s hopefuls. Here, Tom tells us why coming back was a no-brainer and why he’s glad he can chicken out of being mean this time around…
Do you want to prove that the BBC were wrong to get rid of you? It wasn’t the BBC, it was the powers that be on The Voice. I wasn’t upset with the BBC. The series I wasn’t a part of, the ratings went down, so that made me very happy! Do you think The Voice has let past contestants down because they didn’t always have a record deal in place for them? The BBC couldn’t invest like that, but now it’s different because with ITV they get a record deal with Polydor if they win. I tried to help
Ruth [Brown] after she reached the semi-finals of the first series but she didn’t really know what she wanted. Are you happy that your chair doesn’t turn around if none of the coaches press their button? I always found it hard to tell people why I didn’t push my button. fter a tumultuous 2016, which saw the end of Angelina Jolie’s two-year marriage to Brad Pitt, the actress was no doubt glad to welcome in the New Year. And who better to celebrate with than her six children who joined her in snowy Colorado? With no sign of her estranged husband in sight, Angelina hit the slopes with her brood; Maddox, 15, Pax, 13, Zahara, 12, Shiloh, ten and eight-year-old twins Vivienne and Knox. Like a pro, the 41 year old glided on her skis in a chic black outfit topped off by a blue helmet and a pair of blue mirrored goggles. Vivienne opted for salopettes and a black jacket, Knox donned a camouflage ski suit, while older sisters Shiloh and Zahara went for khaki suits.
Following the chilly session, Angelina and Vivienne enjoyed some mother/ daughter time while exploring the resort of Crested Butte. Vivienne’s often remarked upon resemblance to her famous father was clear for all to see during the outing to the Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory for ice cream and hot chocolate. Health-conscious Angelina stuck with a coffee before they visited the nearby toy store. Knox and Shiloh weren’t left out, as they were also treated to ice creams! Far away from the slopes, Brad is said to have told a close pals: ‘This has been the worst holiday season of my life.’ The friend went on to reveal: ‘Brad’s anguish is palpable right now.’ They also said that the 53-year-old actor is still coming to terms with the fact that he is only allowed to have supervised visits with his kids. ‘These supervised visits are sheer hell on him. He’s broken down in tears so many times – he’s not ashamed to cry any more,’ they said. As their divorce proceedings get under way it’s been claimed Brad is ‘terrified the public will learn the truth’ about the breakdown of their marriage. Court documents filed by Angelia’s lawyer state Brad was attempting to ‘deflect from his own role in the media storm which has engulfed the parties’ children’. Brad is said to have met with five of the six children he and Angelina share in LA on Christmas Day, but according to reports, eldest son Maddox didn’t want to see him. Angelina’s holiday comes hot on the heels of the latest twist in the bitter custody battle, which saw Brad’s lawyers slamming Angelina for revealing private medical details about the children. OK!

er Royal Highness the Duchess of Cambridge welcomed in the New Year with some good news, as she accepted a lifetime honorary membership to the Royal Photographic Society. Kate is the latest royal to be honoured by the educational charity, which promotes photography and helps photographers realise their potential, after being praised for her family portraits and royal tour photos. A keen and skilled amateur photographer, the duchess, 35, first showed off her flare behind the lens by taking the first official photographs of Princess Charlotte soon after her birth in May 2015. Taken at Anmer Hall, the Norfolk home she shares with Prince William, the photographs broke with royal tradition and captured Charlotte being cuddled by Prince George. Kate melted hearts once again when she took a series of adorable photographs of Charlotte for her first birthday. A special day for George was also marked when she photographed her son on his first day at nursery at the Westacre Montessori School.
The charity’s chief executive Dr Michael Pritchard praised the duchess, who is a graduate in art history, for her ‘talent and enthusiasm’. Kate’s photography skills were was first put into practice while working for her parents’ company Party Pieces in 2008. She later had photographs published of the Asian and Pacific tour she went on with William in 2012, including an impressive shot of a misty Mount Kinabalu and a vast rainforest in Borneo. She follows in a long line of royal members of the Royal Photographic Society. Queen Victoria and Prince Albert were early patrons. Royal photographer Arthur Edwards praised the duchess, saying: ‘The big test of all of Kate’s pictures is that when you look at them you smile. ‘i’m not ruling out finding romance in the house’ Bianca GascoiGne opens up to OK! about her recent weight loss and why she’ll do nothing more than cuddle on tV!
ntering the Celebrity Big Brother house last week, Bianca Gascoigne showed off her sensational figure in a tight-fitting red latex dress. The gentlemen’s club manageress recently shed 19lb in six weeks, going from 10st 5lb to 9st, taking her from a size 12 to a size 8, so that she could look her best on the Channel 5 show. Opening up about her weight loss journey – during which she used Forza Shake It Slim and Raspberry K2 supplements – the 30 year old revealed that she has suffered from body dysmorphia all her adult life, confessing: ‘I’m never going to be entirely happy with the way I look. It’s in my nature to find fault with some aspect of my appearance.’ Before heading into the CBB house, feisty Bianca – whose stepfather is former footballer Paul Gascoigne – revealed that she will hold her own against anyone who may try to bully her on the show. ‘I cannot stand bullies,’ she warned. ‘I’ve had to stand up to bullies all my life. I’m not too worried if it all kicks off in the house. I’m used to dealing with confrontation in my job at the club.’
Back in November, Bianca was a size 12 48

Above: Bianca is greeted by Stacy Francis and Ray J in the house. Far left: Bianca’s before and after (left) shots Here, Bianca opens up about her weight loss, plastic surgery and why she hasn’t ruled out finding love in the CBB house… You look fab! Why did you want to lose weight? I wanted to get in great shape for Celebrity Big Brother. I also have a favourite pair of jeans with a 26-inch waist that I couldn’t get into. I was determined to slim down so that I could wear them again. I can fit into them easily now. Why has your weight changed over the years? My weight fluctuates all the time. I work nights and I’m always eating the wrong things at the wrong time. It’s very difficult to get into a regular healthy regime. That’s why it was so good for me to team up with Forza Supplements. They’ve instilled lots of good habits into me concerning diet and exercise. Instead of a heavy fattening evening meal I’ll have one of their 204-calorie Shake It Slim meal replacements and the Raspberry K2 supplements. Tell us about suffering from body dysmorphia… I’ve had it all my adult life. No matter how good I look there’s always a problem in my head. I’m always looking for faults in my body.
Above: With stepfather Paul and her mum Sheryl (top)
You were in hospital back in October – what was wrong? It was my 30th birthday, but it was a tough time because I was ill with quinsy, a rare and potentially serious complication of tonsillitis. I spent ten days at the Princess Grace Hospital in London. What surgery have you had over the years? I had my first boob job at 18, I’d lost a lot of weight and my boobs went down to a 34A. I wanted to be bigger and went up to a 34C. Three years later, I wanted to be bigger still and went up to 34DD. My mum Sheryl wasn’t happy about me having the second operation. She thought my boobs looked fine as they were, but I wasn’t happy. I think they look good now and I have no plans to have a third operation. But I’m definitely up for having other procedures. Have you had any other surgery? I’ve had Botox for the past three years and have new injections every six months. I see it as purely preventative. If I never get wrinkles in the first place, I won’t have to get rid of them! Are you dating anyone at the moment? I’ve been single for the past three months. I’m not ruling out finding romance on Celebrity Big Brother, though. I’m an extremely affectionate person, so I’ll be having lots of cuddles, but I would never get more intimate than that. OK! ‘I was destIned to adopt’ nicole kidman on her most personal fIlm yet, how beIng a mum comes fIrst and her phenomenal 35-year career
aving adopted two children with her ex-husband Tom Cruise, Nicole Kidman seems to be made for her role in Lion, the critically-acclaimed upcoming film about an Australian woman, Sue Brierley, who adopts Indian boy Saroo. Nicole, 49, movingly describes the movie as a ‘love letter’ to her adopted children, daughter Isabella, 24, and son Connor, 21. English star Dev Patel plays her character’s son, who is searching for his biological family. Nicole explains how her own experiences helped her identify with her character in the film, saying: ‘When you’re an adoptive mother, of course you think about the birth mother and the birth parents.’ Despite the fact that her 11-year marriage to Tom ended in 2001, she philosophically says: ‘It was a beautiful marriage and all of those things that came out of it. Two beautiful children. The rest is history.’ As well as Connor and Isabella, Nicole is also mum to daughters Sunday, eight, and six-yearold Faith (who was born via surrogate), with her musician husband of ten years, Keith Urban. The family live in Nashville, and recently spent the festive period in Nicole’s native Australia. Despite rumours of a split, Nicole and Keith, also 49, looked more in love than ever while they soaked up the sun in Sydney. ‘He’s my rock,’ the actress says of Keith. ‘I wouldn’t be able to do anything without him. When something good happens to me, I say to him: “Baby this is ours,” and he does the same with me.’ She adds: ‘Our union is so nourishing and strong and healing – with the two of us it really is an “us”. I’m amazed we were able to find each other in this world – amazed and grateful.’ Oscar-winner Nicole explains that despite her success, family comes first. ‘I’m not a single girl and not a childless woman, and I need to bow down to that,’ she concedes, adding: ‘As you get older you appreciate the simpler things more. So just waking up in the morning and seeing the day starting makes me happy.’ As she approaches her 50th birthday, Nicole opens up about motherhood, her shifting priorities and why now is a great moment in her career…
How do you feel about turning 50 in June? I’ve been doing this since I was 14, so God, 35 years working is quite a horrifying number to say out loud. But it’s also really gratifying and 50

Nicole and husband Keith Urban have been married for ten years comforting because I now have that deep well of emotion that only comes with life experiences and I can call on those memories that I didn’t have in my twenties.
The couple in Sydney with their daughters, Sunday and Faith
Do your daughters tend to travel with you when you work? They’ll come wherever I’m working. But it has to work for them and their lives, their routines. I can’t pick up and take a job because it appeals to me, because it’s what I want to do. Would you call right now a great moment in your career? Oh yes, it’s good. I mean, if you look at the directors I’ve worked with this year alone – Yorgos Lanthimos, Sofia Coppola, Jane Campion, Jean-Marc Vallée. Getting to work with one of them is incredible. Getting to work with all four of them, one after the other, is unfathomable! Would you like to do more theatre after the success of the play Photograph 51 in the West End in 2015? Photograph 51 was such a profound, spontaneous, incredible experience. I loved that instantaneous reaction, which you never have with film. I wanted to do Photograph 51 on

Broadway, that was the plan. But then I put the plan to my girls and they said nope! When I did it [in London] it was hard; I wasn’t there for bedtimes, I wasn’t there for dinner, and this is where a balance between work and family is impossible. You have to make a choice and it will always be them. The story of Lion is so moving… This is a hugely emotional, instinctual role for me – I cried a lot during filming. I knew I had to play Sue, I had to play Saroo’s mother. It’s generally assumed that those who adopt do so because they can’t have their own children. This wasn’t the case with your character Sue, and you also adopted before going on to have biological children… You have women who adopt because yes, that’s where they’ve arrived. Then there’s adoption because of circumstance, like my grandmother, who adopted my mother’s cousin after her family passed away. And then, like Sue, there are women who just know they will adopt. ‘i love that karen is a nutcase!’
‘strictly come dancing’ professionals kevin and karen clifton tell ok!’s phil gould about life as the ‘odd couple’ and their new little bundle of joy…
he’s the fiery Latin dancer and he’s the bloke from Grimsby. But Strictly Come Dancing stars Kevin and Karen Clifton seem to have choreographed a winning partnership both on and off the dancefloor. In the past few years, the couple have established themselves as firm favourites with fans of the ratings-topping television show. Originally from Venezuela, Karen, 34, moved to New York as a child and first set eyes on Kevin, also 34, when he was appearing on Broadway. The couple went on to star together in the show Burn The Floor in New York and London. In April 2013, theatregoers got a surprise when Kevin went down on one knee and proposed to Karen on stage. They tied the knot in London on July 11, 2015. The last season of Strictly was one of highs and lows for the pair. Karen was partnered with pop star Will Young and they were one of the favourites to lift the Glitterball, but Will unexpectedly quit the show after just three weeks. Kevin’s partner was
pop singer Louise Redknapp, and the couple made it to the final, only to see Kevin’s younger sister Joanne lift the crown with sports reporter Ore Oduba. It was the fourth year in a row that Kevin had made the final. When we meet up with the couple for our exclusive shoot in the beautiful surroundings of The Stafford, London, they seem on fine form, looking forward to the Strictly tour at the end of the month and then, later in the year, for the first time headlining their own tour. Although Kevin and Karen openly describe themselves as a ‘pretty odd couple’, it’s obvious they adore each other. We sat down for a chat with the twinkle-toed duo to talk about their own tour, which could see Kevin proposing 24 times on stage, hear how he felt after losing out on the Glitterball to his sister Joanne and their new arrival… Hi, Kevin and Karen – tell us about your tour… Kevin: It’s the first tour of our own, which we’ve wanted to do for quite a long time. It’s going to be based on our story, because I think Karen and I are a pretty odd couple when you think about it! In what way are you odd? Kevin: Karen is a feisty, South American New Yorker. Karen: And a loudmouth! Kevin: Then there’s me from Grimsby. Somehow our paths crossed and we ended up together. I think when we first got together, people thought, what? That doesn’t make any sense! What will the show be like?
Kevin: It will reflect our dance backgrounds as Karen comes from a background of authentic Latin American dancing, where they do it for fun, and I’ve been brought up in the English ballroom school of doing competitions. It’ll show what we’ve learned from each other. Karen: I’ve done contemporary and ballet, too. So it will use that and have influences from choreographers like Matthew Bourne. It will be unique to us. Will the audience be able to take part? Kevin: There will be a section in the show when two people from the audience get to dance on stage with us. We’ve done this in the past at Grimsby Auditorium and it was the bit that went down the best out of the whole show! People went nuts! Karen: And we had a glittery fish as a trophy! [Grimsby is synonymous with the fishing industry.] Kevin: We’re expecting carnage but it’ll be good fun. As it’s your story, are you going to be proposing to Karen on stage every night, Kevin? Actually that might be in the show now you’ve mentioned it! Karen: Does that mean I get a ring every night [laughs]?! Was is it a big decision to do a show under your own names? Kevin: It is, because if nobody turns up… And we want to show what we can come up with ourselves. It’s scary that it’s our names but we’re really excited. Karen: We’ve talked about doing our own show since we met. Seeing your name in lights is what dancers live for, but it’ll be hard work.

Was it sad saying goodbye to Len Goodman? Kevin: When we did that final ballroom dance for Len, it was really emotional. Karen: Even when we rehearsed it, everybody was teary-eyed. We knew it would mean something to Len. It wasn’t flashy. It was a traditional ballroom number that Len liked. You could see from the twinkle in his eye that it was heartfelt. Is there anybody you’d like to see as a new judge? Kevin: We’re always the last people to know, even though we try and find out. There are a lot of rumours about Anton [Du Beke]. I don’t know if he wants to do, it but I think he would be a good choice. There are rumours about Karen Hardy, and she is well respected in the ballroom world. They will probably have a ballroom-specific judge. Do you keep in touch with your previous celebrity partners? Kevin: Yes, I’m good mates with all of mine. I chat to Susanna [Reid] all the time. Frankie [Bridge] is good mates with Louise, so when it was revealed that Louise was taking part, I got a text from Frankie, saying: ‘I really hope you get Louise.’ Karen: I am always in touch with Jeremy Vine and [Hairy Biker] Dave Myers. We are BFFs! I went over to Dave’s new house in the summer. Jeremy lives 15 minutes away from us, so we will go for lunch. Mark Wright will randomly call me and go: ‘What’s going on with the show?’ I still hear from Nicky Byrne, too. That’s the great thing, you become such good friends. Above: Karen tells us she was devastated when her celebrity partner Will Young (below) quit Strictly, revealing: ‘I have never cried so much.’ Below right: Kevin’s sister Joanne wins the Glitterball with Ore Oduba
You’re doing two shows in Grimsby. Are you like the prodigal son when you go back there? Kevin: I was until Jo won Strictly last year. Now it’s all about Joanne [laughs]! Everybody has been so supportive, I hope they don’t get sick of me. I think it’s down to the whole town voting, why I’ve been in four Strictly finals in four years! Let’s talk about Strictly. How are you feeling about the outcome of the 2016 final? Kevin: To get to a fourth final is brilliant. When Kellie [Bright] and I made the final in 2015, it was a big surprise, so last year I was made up to do it again. After the semi-final was off air, I broke down in tears because I couldn’t believe it. Louise was crying, too, and she usually keeps her cards close to her chest. It was really emotional. I was proud of it. But what about not winning the final? Kevin: The final was mad for a number of reasons. It had been a tough year for Karen [her celebrity partner Will Young quit the show] and it was awesome to have my sister dancing in the final. When Jo won, I just screamed: ‘This is amazing!’ I ran over to Jo, 54
picked her up and swung her round. Apparently I just missed knocking over the Glitterball by an inch! And what about after the show? Kevin: I have never said it other years, but there was a feeling of, oh man, four in a row and I still can’t get to win! It’s weird, we’ve been talking about it quite a lot. Karen: We’ve been going for counselling [laughs]!
Who are your friends among the other Strictly dancers? Kevin: Aljaž [Skorjanec] and Janette [Manrara] have been close friends since we were in the same dance company for Burn The Floor. Aljaž, Giovanni [Pernice] and me call ourselves the Three Musketeers and have a WhatsApp group. We’ve just bought Gorka [Marquez] in as D’Artagnan! Wasn’t there a report saying you weren’t friends with the other dancers, Kevin? There was an article saying I struggle to make friends because I thought I was better than everybody else. It said it was well-documented that me and Aljaž don’t get on. We’re best mates! It said I didn’t pay any attention to new dancers like Giovanni and Gorka. I did think about ringing up and saying: ‘You do know we have a WhatsApp group called the Three Musketeers…?’ Karen: This series the girls really bonded. We had three new girls come in and it was one of the best casts we’ve ever had. Kevin: It was one of the most harmonious groups since we’ve been on the show.
‘four in a row and i still can’t get to win!’
Has she been giving you a hard time since lifting the Glitterball? Kevin: I thought she was going to, as she did throughout the series. After the show was off air, Jo started crying on my shoulder. She said: I’m so sorry, I thought it was supposed to be your year.’ I told her not to be silly. I’m nothing but proud of her.
Karen, were you gutted when Will Young quit? I was heartbroken. He started out with a bang and was the perfect partner. I’ve had some amazing partners in the past, but with Will, dancing came more naturally; all the ingredients were there. To get that phone call the day after we’d danced the salsa was like a slap in the face. I have never cried so much. Kevin: Karen could have totally been in the final. Karen: It didn’t feel nice. It was like getting over a relationship
Has Janette been asking you for any advice about her wedding, Karen? She has a wedding planner! She’s so happy and it’s so lovely to see that. It makes me want to start planning our wedding all over again. I’m so excited for her and Aljaž. I know it’s going to be absolutely beautiful. I can’t wait to see them get married.

Posing for our exclusive shoot in the beautiful surroundings of The Stafford, London, Kevin tells us he loves Karen because ‘she’s just a little kid, very playful and daft’
Kevin: I’m looking forward to Aljaž’s stag weekend. I bet it will have something to do with football!
Karen, you’ve described Kevin as a chick magnet… I was talking about chickens. Ducks and swans love him too [laughs]! When I first saw Kev it was on stage in Broadway. Everybody had told me about this Kevin Clifton guy who was amazing. I said: ‘I’ll tell you if he is amazing when I see him.’
Over the years, the professional dancers have become celebrities in their own right. What’s it like when you’re out and about? Kevin: When Strictly is on, you can’t walk down the street without somebody singing the theme tune. But then it calms down when we’re off air. When Strictly isn’t on, I’m much more of a scruff, too! Karen: You just get people doing double takes when you walk past them [laughs]! The kids recognise us right away. Where we live, they’ll say: ‘It’s Kevin and Karen,’ but everybody is lovely and we feel part of the community now. You’ve been married for 18 months – has that changed you in anyway? Karen: I just do more housework now. I change the light bulbs now [laughs]! We’re just more secure and more confident in our relationship. Kevin: I feel like I should have changed but I don’t think I have. What are the best things about each other? Karen: Kevin makes a great cup of coffee. Kevin: Really? I love that Karen is just an absolute nutcase! Above and facing page: The couple recently So that’s a compliment? moved house, with Karen making all the Kevin: Yes! When people first arrangements while Kevin was ‘bang in the meet Karen, I don’t know how middle of Strictly’. Below right: Karen with they perceive her because of the couple’s mixed terrier Betty the way she looks. Karen: Because I’m scary? I’m not sure how people perceive me. Do you ask Karen for advice, Kevin? Kevin: But she’s just a little kid, very playful and Because Karen is there and the best dancer daft. Not what you would expect. She makes me I know, I just want to show her what we have laugh because she’s an idiot… in a really good done in the day on my iPad. She’ll say: ‘I don’t way [both laugh]! want to talk about dancing, I want to watch Bake Off!’ You moved home last week. Why did you Karen: The thing is, when I get home I have to decide you needed a new place? worry about doing the laundry, cooking and Kevin: What happened was we got this dog. We making sure the house is clean. weren’t allowed to have one in our old flat so we Kevin: I’ve got a feeling I’m not going to come had to move. This all started bang in the middle out of this chat looking good! of Strictly. I said there was no way we could do it, but Karen had her heart set on this dog. I told her that she needed to take care of the move. While Strictly is on, I’m a maniac! Karen: And I like a project! How did the move go? Kevin: We moved in last week and that was the first time I’d seen the place! I had seen pictures. But Karen took care of everything. Karen: And he loved it! I didn’t want Kevin to feel stressed as his focus was on Strictly. When we were in Blackpool, I was signing everything off online. He just had to pack his own clothing and the fridge. Do you two take work home with you? Karen: I can cut off and just watch television. Kevin: This is our biggest issue because I find it really difficult to leave work in the studio. I become consumed by Strictly and can’t stop thinking about it. Karen: It’s the only little thing we ever argue about. 56
‘i thought karen was the hottest girl i’d ever seen’ Karen: I’m just an ‘old school’ wife. Kevin: I don’t expect this, by the way. That’s just how Karen is. So what first attracted you to each other? Was it Karen’s domestic skills? Kevin: I have to be honest, when I first saw her I thought she was the hottest girl I’d ever seen. Then I saw her dance and I thought, wow, she’s the best dancer I’ve ever seen. But then I thought she would be horrible and have a massive ego. Then I met her and she is a nutcase and has this stupid sense of humour. It was the perfect combination!

So what was he like? Karen: I was absolutely taken by him. He was a star up on that stage. This will sound weird now, but it was his hands that got me – the way his hands moved and he articulated them. Didn’t you say he had Liza Minnelli hands? Karen: Exactly, they are a bit feminine. Not in a bad way [laughs]! He had this rugged, bad boy look on stage. When I met him he was the kindest man I had ever met and just laid back, which I’m not – Kev makes me feel calm. So it works. I’m crazy. I don’t know how sometimes he doesn’t divorce me [Kevin laughs]!
Is Kevin always calm? Karen: There are times when he starts ranting. He has these little moments and I love that. It’s the other side of Kevin that nobody ever sees. He’s like Jekyll and Hyde! Kevin: This interview is going to look really bad for me! It’s like Kevin the monster. Karen: And Karen the nutcase! This is what our tour is going to be about! Kevin: We’re such a weird couple and that’s why we’ve chosen to base the tour on that. We are so different. Let’s talk about your dog Betty… Karen: Yay! Louise Redknapp found Betty on a website for this charity called Wild At Heart Foundation. They rescue dogs from Cyprus, Bosnia and Romania. Betty is mixed terrier from Bosnia. What did you think when you first saw her? Karen: I fell in love with her right away. I contacted the charity and they pretty much reserved her for me. It’s one of the best things we’ve ever done. In the last month since we’ve had her, she has completely changed my life. I adore this dog. How has she settled in with you? Karen: We don’t know what she’s been through, but just seeing her little face and how gentle she
Is Betty going on tour with you? Karen: she is coming! when we’re busy rehearsing, she goes to barry the dog jogger. she’s surrounded by people who adore her. so she has gone from the streets of bosnia to streets of wimbledon!
Joanne can’t do the Strictly tour [she’s starring in Thoroughly Modern Millie], so Karen you are going to be partnering Ore… Karen: i am dancing with ore, it’s great. i think he’s going to be dancing with kevin next! i’m excited to dance with the champ on tour. Kevin, are you hoping you and Louise will win a few nights on the tour? it would be really lovely. Jo has won the glitterball and christmas special [in 2015 with harry Judd]. karen won the children in need special [with lutalo muhammad] and now she’s dancing with ore. it would be lovely to get something, just to keep up with the girls! Celebrity wedding Fever! OK! takes a look at the Famous Couples set to tie the knot in 2017
Carley stenson and danny maC
Former Hollyoaks stars Danny and Carley are set to waltz down the aisle this summer, following Danny’s star turn in the 2016 series of Strictly Come Dancing. Hands-on Danny, 28, recently revealed he’s getting stuck into the wedding planning. ‘We’ve got some really nice things already set up and we’re going to have a really, really fantastic time,’ he said, adding: ‘It’s a nice team effort.’ He also let slip that the wedding would be ‘towards the end of the summer’, and would take place in the UK. Danny and 34-year-old Carley got engaged in March 2016 after dating for five years. 58
pippa middleton and James matthews
The younger sister of the Duchess of Cambridge is tying the knot with her banker boyfriend on May 20 at St Mark’s Church, near Pippa’s hometown of Bucklebury, Berkshire. While Prince George and Princess Charlotte are likely to act as page boy and flower girl, Kate will apparently not be a bridesmaid for fear of upstaging 33-year-old Pippa on her big day. James, 41, big brother of Made In Chelsea star Spencer, proposed with a £200,000 art deco diamond in June when the couple had been dating for less than a year.

Sadie Stuart and elliott Wright
One wedding clearly isn’t enough for former TOWIE favourite Elliott Wright and his fiancée Sadie. The pair are planning two glamorous 2017 ceremonies – one in Marbella and one in England. Elliot, 35, said: ‘Sadie’s taking liberties. She wanted an expensive wedding in the UK and then a big wedding party in Spain! I don’t know what we’ll do.’ Mark Wright’s cousin revealed the happy news of their engagement on Twitter in June, writing: ‘I met this girl ten months ago… I knew she was special…Thankfully she said yes!’
Jacqueline JoSSa and dan oSborne Dan and Jacqueline had to postpone their summer 2016 wedding because they ran out of time to plan. But the EastEnders favourite, 24, and her 25-year-old beau – who are parents to daughter Ella, who turns two in February – intend to make it up the aisle this summer. Jacqueline recently revealed to OK!: ‘I’m getting so excited for the wedding now. We’ve been to see the venue and I can really imagine what it’s going to look like.’ She also said that Ella can’t wait to see her mum and dad marry: ‘Ella is getting really excited – I’m going to dress her as a mini version of me.’ TUrn TO pagE 20 FOr ThE cOUplE caTchIng SOME WInTEr SUn In MExIcO.

Jason spent £250k on a five-carat diamond ring for the proposal. If their pre-engagement period is anything to go by, fans might be waiting a while for a wedding, but sources have speculated they will tie the knot this summer. rosie, 29, gave a rare insight into the couple’s relationship last year, when she revealed they argue about normal things such as who’ll take the bins out, but she also called her 49-year-old fiancé her ‘best mate.’ ‘he makes me laugh every day,’ she said. ‘I almost feel like I never had a proper boyfriend before!’ WWW.OK.CO.UK 59

Aljaž, 26, proposed to Janette, 33, in August 2015 at London’s Dance Attic Studio, where they first set eyes on each other. Janette recalls the moment Aljaž got down on one knee, telling OK!: ‘I was about to start crying and then I thought, what if he is just tying his shoes? Then I saw the box come out and I thought, oh my God, it’s happening!’ The couple, who have been together since 2010, will definitely have an international flavour for their nuptials as Aljaž is from Slovenia and Janette is from Florida. Expect guests from Strictly Come Dancing past and present to be there to watch the happy couple say ‘I do.’

Notorious lothario Russell is a reformed man following the birth of his and Laura’s first child in November. The comedian proposed to Laura in the spring of 2016, shortly after she became pregnant with daughter Mabel. According to sources, the 41 year old wanted to do ‘the right thing’ by his 28-year-old girlfriend, who he’s been dating on and off since 2007. The couple celebrated with an engagement party in the garden of their Oxfordshire home, which was attended by Laura’s TV presenter sister Kirsty.

After triumphing in the I’m A Celebrity – Get Me Out Of Here! jungle and finishing in third place, Emmerdale star Adam Thomas’s next big gig is to wed his long-term love Caroline Daly this year. The pair have been together for eight years and are parents to two-year-old Teddy. However, they’re still in no rush to walk down the aisle as they’d like their big day to be perfect. Caroline, 26, recently revealed to OK!: ‘We have booked the venue and I’ve ordered my dress. We’ve got plenty of ideas about what we want the day to look like. We want to make it really personal.’ And with his two brothers, former Corrie star Ryan, 32, and his twin Scott, Adam, 28, is sure to have a tough time picking a best man. ‘I have a few options,’ Adam said of the big decision, adding: ‘I don’t want to upset anybody.’ 60
Olympic diver Tom revealed his engagement to 42-year-old film director Dustin with a traditional announcement in The Times in October 2015. Tina and Adam got engaged last February at Didsbury House, with romantic Adam, 30, filling their suite with candles and flower petals. ‘He immediately got down on one knee and asked me to marry him,’ 33-year-old Tina said, adding that she felt ‘like the luckiest woman on the planet’. The pair have been together for five years and have a two-year-old son, Beau. They’re yet to confirm a date, but are hoping to tie the knot this summer. Matt’s super-romantic proposal to EastEnders favourite Lacey on a Venetian gondola in September will take some beating. Matt uploaded a snap to Instagram after the event, showing a visibly shocked Lacey with her diamond sparkler, alongside the excited caption: ‘She said yes!’ Although the pair, both 28, are still in the planning stages of their 2017 nuptials, they’re already having problems cutting down their guest list. ‘We’re trying to keep it quite small but it’s hard as Matt’s got a huge family,’ Lacey exclusively told OK! recently. She added that some of her EastEnders co-stars have made the cut. ‘I’ve been friends with some of the cast and crew for 12 years now, so some will be there. The whole world went through Adele’s heartbreak with her when the album 21 was released in 2011, but rumour has it that she may be officially off the market. The 28 year old reportedly got engaged to partner of five years Simon Konecki back in November, and their nuptials were thought to be scheduled for 2017. However, last week the Hello singer was spotted sporting a simple gold band on her ring finger while out and about in Los Angeles, sparking speculation that the pair may have already tied the knot. The former Hollyoaks star, 23, announced that she was pregnant last May following a whirlwind romance with her Celebrity Big Brother house mate Jeremy McConnell. Since then, there have been accusations of infidelity on both sides, with Jeremy, 26, publicly doubting he is the father of Stephanie’s baby – although she reveals she’s happy to raise the child as a single mum. ‘I want him to be there for the baby once he’s born, but Jeremy should be facing up to his responsibilities while I’m pregnant,’ Steph exclusively told OK! last year. ‘Neither of us wanted a child to be born without its parents together, and I’m devastated it’s come to this.’

Irina, 31, first sparked pregnancy chatter when she walked in the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show on November 30 wearing several tummyconcealing outfits. The beauty began to show noticeably just before Christmas when she stepped out in Los Angeles wearing a floaty minidress. She managed to attract even more attention a few days later when she was spotted wearing an emerald and diamond sparkler on her ring finger! Having prompted speculation she and Bradley, 42, have also become engaged, the pair are yet to comment officially.
GerI horner A new member of the Spice family will be welcomed into the world this year, after Ginger Spice Geri revealed she is expecting her second child. It will be her first baby with her husband, Formula 1 boss Christian Horner. Geri, 44, is already mum to ten-year-old Bluebell, whose dad is screenwriter Sacha Gervasi, while Red Bull team principal Christian, 43, is dad to Olivia, three, from his relationship with Beverley Allen. Geri announced the news on Instagram in October, posting a cartoon of a smiling pregnant woman next to the message: ‘God bless Mother Nature #mamaspice.’ Over Christmas, she posted a picture of herself at home with a large baby bump (right). She and Christian wed in May 2015 and are said to have conceived naturally. 64
alex joneS Mum-to-be Alex can’t wait to welcome her first child with her husband Charlie Thomson. The One Show host, 39, recently revealed that she ‘feels so lucky’ to have fallen pregnant after worrying that she’d left it too late to become a mum. The star, who is believed to be due this month, had previously opened up about discovering her own mother had been through an early menopause, and panicking that she could follow in her footsteps. Announcing the happy news on the BBC show, Alex said: ‘I feel great – I’ve had no sickness and no tiredness.’
The Saturdays singer rochelle managed to keep her pregnancy a secret for a whopping six months before telling the world she’s expecting her second child with husband Marvin. Opening up about her first trimester, 27-year-old rochelle admits: ‘I felt horrendous, but no one offers you a seat because they don’t know! Now I’m six months, I feel great.’ during a New year break with her family in the Maldives, rochelle showed off her growing bump in a black dress (above). rochelle and Marvin, 31, are already parents to three-year-old daughter alaia-Mai, but can’t wait to extend their family. Taking to Twitter, presenter Marvin wrote of the baby news: ‘We’re over the moon!’ rochelle recently revealed that Marvin believes she’s expecting a boy this time around.
Billie Faiers Blooming Billie exclusively told OK! that she’s expecting a boy when she gives birth in March. The former TOWIE star and her fiancé Greg Shepherd, 31, first revealed that they were adding to their brood in September, when Billie uploaded a picture of their two-year-old daughter Nelly pointing to her stomach. Opening up about the moment they discovered they were going to be parents again, Billie, 27, told OK!: ‘I said to Greg: “I feel sick, I’m off my food, I’ve got headaches, I’m hot, I need to do a pregnancy test.” He and Nelly went to the chemist to buy a test and I was so nervous.’ She added: ‘I shouted to Greg: “I’m pregnant!” with a massive grin on my face and we couldn’t stop laughing. ‘we’re just over the moon that they’re healthy’
‘emmerdale’ star lucy pargeter tells OK!’s chrissie reeves about her joy at finding out that she’s expecting twin girls, becoming a family of five and being fuelled by toast and chips!
hile many people were happy to see stop eating and how she’s struggling with this the back of 2016, for Emmerdale pregnancy more than ever… star Lucy Pargeter and her fiancé Rudi Coleano, it was one of the How are you feeling about having twin girls? most magical years as they found out they were We had an idea before because we had blood expecting twins after years of trying. tests and there were no ‘y’ chromosomes, which The couple had yearned for a baby ever since means there were no boys, but we wanted to the birth of their 11-year-old daughter Lola. Lucy, double check at the five-month scan. It was two 39, went through a gruelling round of IVF last weeks later than it should’ve been because of year – complete with uncomfortable bloating, work, and the babies were all over the place and endless blood tests and scans – and was left wouldn’t keep still – Rudi and Lola were with me devastated when it failed. But after changing and Lola was like: ‘Yay!’ clinics, they tried for a second time and were ecstatic when Below: Lucy plans to a pregnancy test gave them a leave Emmerdale (below positive result and an early scan left, with Emma Atkins) revealed they’re expecting twins! six weeks before the A scan on December 19 birth, and return when confirmed something else and the twins are four Lucy – who is now 23 weeks months old pregnant – couldn’t wait to reveal some more exciting news exclusively to OK!. ‘It’s two girls!’ said Lucy. ‘We found out at the five-month scan just before Christmas, and we’re just over the moon that they’re both healthy – it was the best Christmas present!’ She told us: ‘My due date is May 3, but because it’s twins, they won’t get me go over 37 weeks so we’re expecting them in mid-April.’ And while football coach Rudi had secretly hoped for a boy to add to their brood, the couple are now just ecstatic to be welcoming two healthy girls into their new Yorkshire home. Here, Nottingham-born Lucy, who plays Chastity Dingle in the ITV soap, chats to OK! about their long-awaited baby girls, non-
How did Rudi react? One boy and one girl would have completed the family because Rudi has four sisters and, with him being a goalkeeper, he would’ve loved a boy to carry on the goalkeeping in the family – instead of a dog with one brain cell! But we’re just over the moon that they’re healthy. Two girls are easier, there will be no split car journeys on a Saturday taking one to football and one to dance class. And clothes sorting will be a lot easier. Are you tempted to try again for a boy? Someone said to me recently: ‘Oh next time it could be a boy!’ And I was like: ‘What do you mean next time? Is three not enough?’ We still have two frozen embryos but I can guarantee they will be more girls. Mind you, most people say that when you go from two to three children, it’s a massive difference, so three to four might not be that bad. Was it a good Christmas present to find out? Yes, it was nice to be able to tell people at Christmas. I don’t understand why people don’t find out the sex – it’s not like it’s going to be a kitten, it’ll be a boy or a girl! I’m a list girl, I’m practical and want to organise the nursery, clothes, everything. We need to rejig the house first because it’s not going to work with two babies, so we need to put a small extension on the back before we start the nursery. Have you bought much for the babies? Nothing. I went into The White Company yesterday but I couldn’t bring myself to buy anything, I’m too superstitious. We’re going to have to get premature baby stuff to begin with.
Have you packed your hospital bag yet? No, but my twin expert keeps telling me that I need it packed from 30 weeks because twins can come any time. She’s amazing and has given me lists of twin routines, things I need, forms to keep track of their weight, log sheets to see how much they’re eating, sleeping and bathing. My twin expert is amazing, I want her to move in! 66

Will you get a night nanny or any help? god no, i haven’t got a budget for that and they’re our kids so we’ll deal with them ourselves. besides, as soon as my child starts crying, there’s no way i can go back to sleep – it’s not like i have a house with a spare wing. we’ll have help from friends with things like ordering the shopping, or bringing over a casserole or putting some washing on. How are you feeling? i keep having dizzy spells and a lot of gas but i’m very windy anyway. i’m also downing the gaviscon for the heartburn. i’m finding pregnancy harder this time – i don’t know if it’s because i’m so much older or because there are two babies, but i’m a lot more tired and i’m struggling. i also know the implications – before i was like: ‘oh, wow, there is a baby coming!’ but now i’m thinking about what’s happening in the world and how it will affect them. i worry if i’ve done the right thing because of my age, because when they’re ten years old, i’ll be 49 and when they’re 20 i’ll be 59. it’s only natural to think like that and when the hormones kick in it’s all about protecting them. A lot of heartburn is meant to mean hairy babies… that’s what i thought with lola – i’m surprised she didn’t come out looking like gaviscon, i drank so much, but she was bald for three
‘i’m not up for a spa day because i look like a massive whale’ years. i’m waking up a lot in the night, but that’s because the dog needs the loo. i’m a smoker when i’m not pregnant so i’m having loads of dreams about smoking, then i wake up panicking thinking i’ve had one. Are you missing alcohol? yes, but on new year’s eve i lasted until 1am and i even had a dance – i was too busy being entertained by everyone being drunk to realise the time! Have you got a birth plan? no, we’ve talked about a c-section and a natural birth. with twins, you often have one naturally and one can end up being a c-section. the recovery time with a c-section is difficult afterwards, but a natural birth can be horrendous, too, so i’ll see how it goes. i had a 36-hour labour with lola. i wanted to do it naturally but then had an epidural after 20 hours because i was shattered. i wanted to keep her attached to the umbilical cord because most of the blood supply and nutrients are still in the placenta and it only takes an hour for the baby to take everything. when the cord stops pulsing it means that she’s had all she needs, but i don’t know how viable that is with twins. i also don’t want an episiotomy – i’d rather have a c-section rather than be cut. Are you going private or on the NHS? nhs – we’re booked into the local hospital. Have you thought of any names? we’ve got a list but finding names we both agree on is hard – lola wants to choose the names, too. we had an argument about one name that i keep trying to get in there, but lola was like: ‘no!’
Will you have a baby shower? if my friends want to do something then i will, but i won’t plan it. i’m not even up for a spa day because i look like massive whale anyway, so a dressing gown isn’t going to help! i’ve eaten far too much over christmas so the weight i’ve put on is all food. at work there is always toast on the go and Emmerdale is sponsored by mccain, so there are always bowls of chips and biscuits around! Are you finding it harder to dress? yes, there is nothing i can wear in my old wardrobe, even my big shirts are too tight. new year’s eve was interesting; i ended up in leggings and a tent dress i’ve had for years – it was the only thing i could fit into. the costume
department at work has bought me loads, so i’m borrowing from there. How long do you think you’ll take off work for maternity leave? my producer has told me my exit, and i won’t be winding down very much – i’m happy with the way i go, it’s plausible and nice, but it will be fullon until i leave. i’m planning to take six weeks off before they come, and four months after. ‘i tend to attract drama’
‘made in chelsea’ star binky felstead tells OK!’s chrissie reeves about starting the year single, her winter health kick and her 2017 goals...
ast year, Made In Chelsea star Binky Felstead had her fair share of drama. Her on-off relationship with Josh ‘JP’ Patterson was at the centre of the E4 show, and when OK! catches up with the 26 year old, she’s keen to wave 2016 goodbye. ‘I didn’t enjoy last year. I don’t even want to think about it, to be honest – it’s all about a new start now,’ she tells us. Although she called it quits with the 27-yearold property developer, a reunion isn’t totally out of the question. Here, Binky, who is the new ambassador for Reebok, talks all about her New Year’s resolutions, and how she hasn’t turned into Bridget Jones just yet…
Binky, you had a lot of drama last year – are you glad to see the back of 2016? Yes! I don’t know why I tend to attract drama, but hopefully not anymore. It’ll be nice to have a calmer 2017. Are you starting the New Year single? I’m single, but I’m speaking to JP again. We’re obviously very fond of each other; we have been for two years, and it’s a bit complicated at the moment. Who knows if we’ll get back together? I’m not going to say yes or no – it’s for me and him to work out. What will January involve for you? I’ll get back in the gym with my personal trainer Tyrone [Brennand, from Be The Fittest in London], focus on new adventures and work hard. You’ve always talked about your desire to live in the country with horses, land and kids – would you like to see 2017 turn that dream into a reality? This year might be a bit early for that, but I’m looking forward to that stage one day. I’d love to keep my place in London and buy a big house in the country with horses and animals running around, with an Aga and an open door policy, like I had growing up. I’m in a much happier place now than I was, and it’s going to stay like that. I don’t want to sound like Bridget Jones, because I’m not!
January will see Binky get back in the gym with her trainer Tyrone Brennand 70
You’re looking great. Did you indulge over the Christmas period? Yes, but I went to No 1 Boot Camp in Ibiza before Binky says she’s the Reebok speaking to her on-off shoot, so boyfriend JP again I took it easy over Christmas. Boot camp was intense – I did five hours of workouts a day and I don’t know the numbers but I lost 5lb in four days! I wanted to get in serious shape. Before that, I’d been filming and I wasn’t in the mood for the gym. I try to train three or four times a week but I believe in rest days, otherwise you knacker yourself out and perform badly – which leads to injuries. Did you party a lot over the festive season? Not really. I went to the country with my family and I also saw my best mate and her baby on the Isle Of Wight, so I’ve been very grown up. Are you doing dry January? No, I don’t drink much anyway, although I do enjoy the odd glass of red wine. Louise Thompson is looking great, too. Do you swap fitness tips? No, but she’s dating a personal trainer, which helps. I love my trainer, but not in that way! JP and I trained together and he was a good coach. I gave him some burpee exercises which he couldn’t do as well as me. That made me laugh!
The star went to boot camp to get in shape for her Reebok campaign
a chicken, coconut and vegetable broth, which is delightful. I do a very spicy Jalfrezi curry, too! What do you think about your ex Alex Mytton dating Lottie Moss? I love her. I’ve met her a few times and she’s quite young [Lottie is 19, Alex is 25], but we get on really well, she’s a lovely girl. You never know with Alex, but I hope it lasts. I know he’s pretty besotted.
Alex Mytton’s ‘lovely’ girlfriend Lottie Moss has Binky’s approval
How did you feel about Stephanie Pratt trying it on with Alex? She’s hilarious for doing that! She didn’t realise he was dating Lottie, so it was quite a shock when he told her.
What do you think about Spencer Matthews doing The Jump? I’d be too scared of getting injured to do that show, but I’ve skied with Spencer and he’s a very good skier, so he’ll smash it.
Do those who train together, stay together? There’s some sort of pheromone that happens when you train together, so yes.
What reality shows would you like to do? I’m a glorious dancer, so maybe Strictly will have me one day.
What do you eat in a day? Breakfast is eggs on rye bread, avocado and smoked salmon, or ham and tomato. Lunch is fish and salad, and dinner might be chicken broth with lots of vegetables. I’m a big believer in a little of what you fancy does you good. I can cook, too.
Have you got any New Year’s resolutions? Before Christmas, I visited some children at the Royal Brompton Hospital so I’d like to do more charity work, focus on my career, and make this year the best yet. OK!
What would you cook to impress a boyfriend? Boys love roasts, which I’m good at. I do a mean Bolognese and I’ve learnt how to cook paella and

Last week, on my first day back on set after the Christmas break, Simon [Gregson, who plays Steve McDonald, above right] and I watched the entire episode for the first time. Acting the scenes and watching it on telly are quite different – it’s like trauma times two – so work thought it was important for me to watch it ahead of it being aired. They’ve really taken care of me. Watching it back reinforced why I agreed to do the storyline in the first place – to help other people who’ve gone through something similar. I think we’ve done it justice and I can be proud of it. Yes, I’ve been to some dark places and I’ve had to revisit the emotions I felt when I lost Archie, but hopefully some people will gain from it. I’ve had a lot of lovely messages already from both charities, including Tommy’s, that raise awareness of stillbirth and from other ‘angel mummies’, as we call ourselves, who have been through a similar traumatic experience.
My family have been really supportive and are proud of me. Matt was also great while I was filming the scenes last year. I had to relive such a tragedy in my life that it was bound to affect me, but he was there at the end of the day to lift my mood and cheer me up, as were my kids. I feel very fortunate to have the people in my life that I do. Going back to work was a good time to get back into a healthy lifestyle after a couple of weeks of eating to excess and, with that in mind, I bought a mountain bike in the New Year and I haven’t been off it since – I love it! Matt and I [right] have been going off road in the woods near where we live and doing ten-mile rides – it’s been so muddy! It’s great to get out in the fresh air as well as going to the gym – the fitness regime is most certainly back on!

att and I had a fancy dress party at ours for New Year’s eve. We went as Ron burgundy and veronica Corningstone from Anchorman [left]. David went as Mrs Doubtfire [below right], which made me cry with laughter! he’s 6ft 1in and built like a brick outhouse so it was hilarious to shop for his costume. We were in charity shops trying to find old lady skirts and he was holding these skirts on and I was in tears. polly was polly from Trolls [left] and emilie and her boyfriend Matty went as Sandy and Danny from Grease [far left]! It was great fun and we were up until 3am. At midnight, we set off a balloon into the sky in memory of Archie, as we always do.

She was talking about her daughter Matilda a lot. helen’s clearly loving being a mummy, but she also loves being back at work. She’s slotted straight back in and it’s been like she never left! She’s really enjoying it and it will be great to see her character Rosie Webster back on screen in february.
we’re up for some awards! T he shortlist nominations for the National Television Awards have been revealed and, although I was on the longlist for best Serial Drama performance, I didn’t make the shortlist. I’m not disappointed at all, though, as Jack p Shepherd [who plays David platt, right] is up for the award for Corrie and he thoroughly deserves it. I’m really pleased for him and I do hope he wins as he’s been fab all year! faye brookes [who plays Kate Connor, left] has been shortlisted for best Newcomer and she’s absolutely overjoyed. I saw her at work and she was jumping around like a little puppy – she was chuffed to bits! OK!

‘i went with my boyfriend and came back with a fiance!’ ‘love island’ couple olivia buckland and alex bowen tell us all about the romantic rooftop proposal in new york, plans for their big day – with caroline flack among the guests – and babies!

I think I said: ‘Oh 23, tells OK!. ‘I know a lot of people think it’s my God,’ about 50 times when he proposed! too soon for us to get engaged, but when you know, you know.’ Tell us about the proposal… We caught up with the loved-up couple Olivia: Alex told me we were going for a meal last Friday, the day after they returned from on a rooftop and he said it was a chicken and New York, which is where the romantic beef place, which seemed really random. With no arrived at this huge hotel and we went to the expense spared, Alex, 25, hired out a rooftop rooftop and he’d hired out this private terrace terrace overlooking the One just for us. The view World Trade Center and proposed was amazing and with a show-stopping squarethere was a little cut diamond ring in front of the table with a bottle Manhattan skyline. ‘Put it this way, of champagne on I wouldn’t have been able to afford it. It was the the name Kai: ‘It’s most emotional thing that what we called our has ever happened to me! Love Island baby’ I didn’t know what to do with myself.
Were you nervous, Alex? I was pretty nervous. I was going to wait until the end of the holiday to propose, but I thought I’d just be sh***ing myself the whole time. I had flu before going out there, so I blamed my mood on that. Olivia: He was so quiet that day – I was thinking, he’s really ill today, he must be getting worse! Who did you tell first? Alex: We rang our families and then our friends, but pretty much everyone knew I was going to propose apart from Olivia! I’m one of these people who can never keep anything in. We bought each other surprises for Christmas and two days before we told each other what we’d bought, so I was really proud I hid this from her! I asked her mum and dad for their permission at the launch of her Quiz clothing collection, and her best friend. When did you book the trip to New York? Alex: When we got home after Love Island. I booked it as a surprise for her birthday [January 3]. I wasn’t actually going to propose in New York, I was going to wait until this year and do it in April in somewhere like Venice, but then I was in Lakeside Shopping Centre two months ago and I just saw the ring. I knew what type of ring Olivia wanted because she showed me a picture of a Tiffany one when we were messing around. I saw one like it so I just bought it there and then. I rang my best friend and my mum, and my friend said there’s no better place to do it than New York. Olivia: I knew he would propose to me because we’ve spoken about it for a while, but hand on heart I thought it would happen this summer. My face was a joke when he asked me! How did you know Olivia’s ring size, Alex? It’s actually a bit big so we’re going to get it resized. I had to guess her size – I couldn’t take one of her rings because she’s always wearing them and she knows when one is missing. Where did you hide the ring for those two months, Alex? It was at my mum’s because Olivia is a bit of a snooper! I thought if she went looking for Christmas presents at ours she might find it.

What would you say to people who say it’s too soon and that you’re too young? Alex: Because of Love Island it feels like we’ve been together for a year and a half. It felt completely natural to me and I’m really happy, so it feels right. I don’t really care what other people think. If I love the girl and I want to marry her, then I’m going to marry her. When we first came out of the villa, people doubted us, but we’re having the first Love Island wedding. Olivia: Alex is the first boy I’ve ever met who has old romantic ways and wants a long-term relationship. I know we did meet on a reality show but it’s grown so naturally. It doesn’t feel too soon for us. These days I know we are young to be engaged but my mum was at this age. If you find the right person you don’t have to worry about how old you are. We know each other inside out. You said on Snapchat that you’ve picked a wedding date… Olivia: I’ve always said I really want to get married in September, so I’m gunning for September 2018. That’s around 20 months away so it gives us enough time to plan. If that doesn’t happen then it will be 2019. Have you thought about what sort of wedding you’d like? Olivia: Not yet, but we know it’s going to be big. It will be glamorous and beautiful, with loads of flowers. We’re going to go all out. My mum got married last year, so she’s going to be really involved with the planning. Alex already knows he’s going to Las Vegas for the stag do, and I’m going to go to Dubai with my girls.

Below: The couple in New York Were you worried about getting the ring through security at the airport? Alex: I was a bit nervous. I had the ring in my backpack and it was wrapped in one of my jackets. Luckily when we went through customs, Olivia went through a different way to me to have her bag checked, so I said to the geezer: ‘Look, I’ve got an engagement ring for her in here, so can you be discreet?’ Once we got to New York it was in my jacket pocket the whole time. I thought Olivia was going to find it because I bought an extra box to put it in that’s really big and lights up when you open it so the diamonds sparkle more. She kept cuddling me on my left side when we were walking and I was thinking, if she puts her hand in my pocket I’m going to be screwed! Describe the ring to us… Alex: I’m not sure how many carats it is. Put it this way, I wouldn’t have been able to afford that ring before Love Island. It was very expensive! I got it from Beaverbrooks. Olivia: It’s very sparkly. It has a square-cut diamond in the middle and then two levels of little diamonds around it. 86
Alex: It’s actually a Canadian diamond. It comes with its own passport and details of where they found it and its co-ordinates. It was New Year’s Eve the day after you got engaged. What did you do to celebrate? Olivia: We went on a yacht called the Hornblower Infinity and sailed all around New York and watched some fireworks in Times Square. We celebrated that night and got very drunk! We got home at about four o’clock in the morning. It was such a good way to celebrate the engagement and we’re going to have a party now we’re home. It was the maddest holiday and Alex made it the most memorable trip ever. We went out there as boyfriend and girlfriend and I came back with a fiancé! What did you do for your birthday on January 3, Olivia? In the evening we went out for a meal to the revolving restaurant at the Marriott Hotel called The View. New York was obviously my main present but Alex also took me to Saks Fifth Avenue and bought me some very expensive thigh-high boots!
Will you get married in the UK? Olivia: Yes. I don’t think I would want to get married abroad as I want everyone to be there. I love all the massive manor houses with gardens and I want a marquee outside. Have you thought about your dress, Olivia? I think every girl has! I went wedding dress shopping with my mum and I was desperate to try one on. I have a few ideas. I can’t wait to try one on! Are you tempted to design your own dress? Olivia: I’d be tempted to design my bridesmaids’ dresses but I want my wedding dress to be amazing. My dress has got to be one step further. I want it to be tight with a fishtail at the bottom. Is Reggie going to play a part in the wedding? Olivia: I think he should be the ring bearer and be wearing a little tux! Alex: People have perceptions of us because we’re young and so they think we shouldn’t have a dog, but we’re giving him the best start in life. I also get comments saying I’m not a lad any more because I’ve settled down, but I’m 25. I’ve grown up! Will any of the Love Island girls be your bridesmaids, Olivia? I’ve already spoken to Cara [De La Hoyde] about it. We’ve very close. Alex: Her and Nathan [Massey] knew I was going to propose and they were absolutely buzzing! Who will be your best man, Alex? My best friends Tyrone, Dale and Aaron. Will any of the Love Island boys be ushers?

Yes, Nathan [Massey] and Terry [Walsh] will be, and Alex Cannon will be in the mix.
Olivia: She’s welcome! She needs to come to the engagement party, 100 per cent.
Caroline Flack tweeted you to say congratulations. Is she invited? Olivia: Yes, she has to come! The whole Love Island team needs to experience this. It’s the first Love Island wedding!
Did you ever think you’d find ‘The One’ on TV? Olivia: Never! We can’t believe this came from a TV show. When we came out of the villa and we were living apart for a couple of days, we realised we were inseparable and that we couldn’t be apart. We’ve probably only spent a week apart in total since Love Island. Usually spending so much time together can cause arguments, but we never argue, we never get sick of each other. We can be in each other’s presence for hours and not even talk.
Would you consider filming your big day? Olivia: Part of us wants to keep it a little bit private. We’re aware that people are going to want to see what’s going on, but I think filming would be one step too far. Which couple will be next to get engaged? Alex: I don’t know. Me and Olivia just concentrate on us. We’ll get married first, I think. Olivia: Regardless of what anyone else is doing, we’re really happy. Alex is my complete world and I’m his. Alex, you slept with Zara Holland in the villa. Does that still bother you, Olivia? It can’t any more. We’ve come so far from that point. We’d only known each other for an hour when it happened, so I can’t keep it against him or Zara. Is she invited to the wedding?

What do you love most about each other? Olivia: Obviously, he’s ridiculously gorgeous and everyone fancies him, but he’s like no one I’ve ever met before. He’s so sensitive. I’ve never had this type of relationship with someone before. Alex: I love everything about her, but the main thing is that Olivia can go to the shops without any make-up on. I’ve been with girls who are so high maintenance; she’s just natural. You’ve had to deny you’ve had lip fillers recently, Olivia… I’ve always admitted I’ve had them done, but it was over a year ago and I had them once. It was a silly decision and I wish I hadn’t got them done because I am a natural person and I like my natural features. I don’t like people thinking I’m still getting it done and lying about it. Would you ever have them done again? Olivia: I’d never say never, the same as if as I get a wrinkle I might want Botox. But at the moment I’m 23 and there are other things I want to spend my money on.
How do you feel about so many people fancying Alex, Olivia? I feel like the luckiest girl in the world now he’s put a ring on it. There’s not much anyone else can do now! You’ve said you want two kids. Have you thought about names? Alex: I like the name Kai. It’s what we called our Love Island baby. I’d like to have a boy first. Having Reggie is worse than having a child! Olivia: He’s such a handful and so needy. I think we’ll have him for five years before we have children! A naked picture of you was leaked back in July, Alex. How did you feel about that? I was on a TV show having sex for six weeks in front of the nation, so stuff was already out there. I was more gutted about my family seeing it, but I don’t really regret taking it. I never regret anything I do. You had sex more than any other couple on Love Island. Has that continued?! Alex: Of course, it’s still very frequent [laughs]! Olivia: Have you seen Alex? How can I say no?! You’ve hinted you might be back on our TV screens soon… Olivia: Hopefully! We want to update our fans but we’re not allowed to say anything! OK! STOCKISTS: Ax PARIS WWW.AxPARIS.COM; BOUx AVeNUe WWW.BOUxAVeNUe.COM; BUCKleY lONdON WWW. ‘I wIsh my dad could have met lance’
Tom Daley tells Ok! about hIs weddIng plans, how hIs fIance Isn’t copIng wIth the brItIsh weather and makIng baked beans from scratch!
hen OK! catches up with two-time Olympic bronze diving medallist Tom Daley, he’s eager to crack on with 2017. July’s World Championships are firmly in his sights along with his upcoming wedding to Oscar-winning scriptwriter Dustin Lance Black, 42, who Tom calls Lance. Introduced by a friend in LA in early 2013, Tom’s coy about their big day but laughs off suggestions he’ll be wearing his Speedos, insisting: ‘Definitely not!’ It’s been three years since he posted his ‘coming out’ on YouTube, which received an ‘incredibly positive’ reaction. Now, eager to share his healthy lifestyle, he has published Tom’s Daily Plan. Photographed at the south London home he shares with Lance, the book is full of lifestyle secrets and delicious recipes. Here, Tom, 22, talks about his late dad Robert, who died of cancer in 2011, and reveals why Lance is the man for him...
How are your wedding plans coming along? We’re starting to make plans and seeing places that we want. We’ve got dates in mind, too, but we’re keeping it under wraps for now. How has Lance taken to life in London? He loves the fact that LA doesn’t wake up until 5pm, so he has all day to write. He also thinks it’s a great place for writers because it’s cold and rainy so you don’t go outside! He grew up in Texas and moved to California so he’s finding it very cold.
After the 2012 Games I struggled with motivation, but I took two months off after Rio and that made me want to come back. The World Championships and the World Series are this year and I’m training six hours a day for six days a week. It’s intense but very rewarding. Do you have any New Year’s resolutions? To stop biting my nails. I’m one of those who bites all around. How is life three years on from your ‘coming out’ video? Everyone has been incredibly positive. I was worried that I’d become known as ‘the gay diver’, but that’s never happened, which shows opinions are moving forward. You’ve supported Kylie Minogue and Joshua Sasse’s Say I Do Down Under campaign to legalise same sex marriage... I posed for a photo in the Say I Do Down Under T-shirt for her [below]. I think it’s a good political message. Why is Lance the man for you? So many reasons. When we met, there was a connection. We understood each other and what it takes to put so much hard work into something. We laugh all the time and we continue to grow as people, which is really special. What would your dad have thought of Lance? I wish my dad had met Lance and I think they’d have got on a treat. My dad was always a joker and 90 per cent of what came out of his mouth wasn’t serious.
Where do you keep your medals at home? Lance got me a trophy cabinet for my birthday. He keeps his Oscar and Writers Guild awards in the toilet upstairs! Is the year following an Olympic Games a bit of a comedown for you?
Tom with his late dad, Robert 90
Your book Tom’s Daily Plan is dedicated to your dad. Why is that? My dad was never the healthiest of eaters, but every Friday he’d cook a stir-fry and he could also cook an omelette. But he also used to Tom supports eat Farley’s Rusks, the Say I Do baby food, for breakfast Down and then pile up six Under meringues and put double cream on them. I like to think he’d have tried some of my recipes and changed his opinion on health. Did Lance influence your recipe choices? Lance is American and mad on barbecue food, so we have that quite
Above: With fiancé Dustin Lance Black. Left: Tom and Daniel Goodfellow won bronze in the Men’s Synchronised 10m at Rio often. There’s also southern fried chicken in the book. I’ve been lucky enough to try many of the recipes on my travels. Do you really make your own baked beans from scratch? Yes! It’s easier to get them from a tin, but this is about mindfulness and knowing what you’re eating. There’s something very rewarding about preparing your own food. For a weekend brunch it’s fun! Would following your recipes make us healthier? It’s about doing something that’s attainable and maintainable, and about getting physically fit, setting mental goals and mindfulness. I make healthy food that people actually want to eat. You don’t have to live on boiled chicken and broccoli. Is meditation vital to your own daily routine? I meditate for ten minutes every morning. I was sceptical at first, but made myself do it until I got into the habit. It calms me. OK! ‘TOM’S DAILY PLAN’ BY TOM DALEY PUBLISHED BY HQ, HARPERCOLLINS, IS PRICED AT £ 16.99. LANCE’S SCOTCH EGGS SERVES 2; 469 CALORIES PER SERVING
l 2 medium eggs l 250g pork or beef mince l 1 large shallot, finely chopped l 1 large sprig of rosemary, finely chopped l A little oil l Salt and freshly ground black pepper
1 Bring a small saucepan of water to the boil and cook the eggs for 8 minutes. Put them in a bowl of cold water and leave them to cool, then peel off the shells. 2 Put the mince in a bowl, add the shallot and rosemary, season and mix well. Wet your hands and take half the mixture, then spread it out to a thickness of about half a centimetre. Season the meat well and place an egg on top, then wrap the mince around it, squeezing it at the join to seal the seam.
3 Do the same with the other portion of mince and egg. Rub a little oil over each ball and season again. 4 Heat a dry frying pan over a medium heat until just hot. Fry the balls for 15-20 minutes, turning them frequently until they are golden brown all over. They are ready when they feel firm. You can take a peek inside one to see if the mince is done and continue to cook if you need to. OK!

‘i’ve got a new boyfriend every week according to the papers’ Charlotte Crosby talks to OK!’s chrissie reeves about the single life, shaping up and ignoring the haters
hen OK! catches up with reality star Charlotte Crosby, she’s tucking into bacon, egg and mushrooms – and we can’t help but wonder where she puts it all! Last year, the former Geordie Shore star dropped four dress sizes and went from a size 16 to a slender size 8 thanks to a healthy eating and exercise plan – and she looks sensational. Charlotte, 26, has had her fair share of ups and downs in the romance stakes, but as she begins 2017 as a single woman, she’s ready for anything – and we doubt she’ll be short of dates looking this good! Here, the outspoken Geordie – who split from Big Brother hunk Ash Harrison late last year – talks dreams, dating and dealing with the haters…
You’re looking hot! Are you back in the gym? I haven’t started properly yet this year, I went for the first time yesterday and it was painful – I only managed half an hour. Fitness is really important to me now. It’s a constant thing in my life and if I don’t do it, I feel guilty. It releases happy endorphins and makes me feel great mentally as well as physically. I go about four times a week. I’ve got a gym in my house so I’ve got no excuse. Is it important for your next boyfriend to be fit, too? I haven’t had a serious boyfriend in a long time, not while I’ve been skinny and lost all the weight, so I don’t know if it would be a good or bad thing. Do you like your men lean or muscly? I don’t have a preference. I like all different types. There have been some reports about a romance between you and Stephen Bear – are you single at the moment? I’m single, yes. I’ve got a new boyfriend every week according to the papers!
Above: Charlotte’s heading back to the gym. Right: Her new activewear range Are you tempted to do any more dating shows? Are there are any left for me to do?! I’ve been offered Dinner Date but it’d be so embarrassing. I’m a good cook, though. I do a great meatball curry – good man food. How do you drag yourself to the gym after a night out? Even when I was in Geordie Shore I’d go, because it makes the hangover go away. Were you partying hard over Christmas? Not as much as everyone else. There was lots of food, though. I’ve put on 4lb, but it’s not noticeable and everyone is still saying I’m too skinny. What are you eating? I’m not that strict. I have carbs but I have glutenfree bread because I’m gluten intolerant. I get massively bloated if I have it and I can’t poo properly. I’ll still have my Chinese takeaways – I love special fried rice. Are you doing dry January? No!
Above: With Ash Harrison. Left: With Stephen Bear 94
You were compared to the late Pete Burns after posting a photo of you pouting on Instagram… I’ll take that as a compliment, Pete Burns was a legend. I get slammed for every picture I put up, but so does Beyoncé and she’s perfect. I’ve got nothing to say to them. I’ve had five years of it now, I don’t read the comments and I don’t even block them. Some people get
upset by them, but I’m not the type to. I’d only be bothered if my mum or dad or my mates said they weren’t happy with something. Have you toughened up since being in the limelight? Definitely. I went to an all-girls school which was very bitchy, so you have people slagging you off left right and centre. I’ve dealt with that my whole life. I wasn’t bullied but there were so many snide remarks like: ‘Oh, she’s wearing too much make-up,’ or ‘Her skirt’s too short.’ You’ve got to handle that every day. I never got upset, I was the class clown. I didn’t care! Are you watching Celebrity Big Brother? Yes, it’s a good one. I’m looking forward to seeing what Ray J has to offer. I’ve met Bianca Gascoigne and all the British housemates. It would’ve been nice to go in there. Have you got any New Year’s resolutions? No, I don’t have anything I want to change. I’m fit, healthy, I’m happy with my weight and I don’t drink too much now I’m not on Geordie Shore. My goal for this year is to buy a cosy apartment in London. Oh, and go on Strictly Come Dancing. I’ve only ever danced in nightclubs. I’d love to learn. OK! CHARLOTTE’S ACTIvEWEAR COLLECTION IS AvAILABLE FROM JANuARY 12 AT INTHESTYLE.COM. The Bikini Plan recipes I follow are quick, because everyone’s short on time.’ snAcks: ‘Avocado or nuts mid-morning and peanut butter and carrot sticks mid-afternoon.’ Tell us about your Bikini Plan… It’s a 90-day program and every day it gives you a new exercise, new recipes and there’s a progress tracker where you can upload before-and-after pictures and measurements. It’s like your own personal trainer at home. You don’t need a gym membership to do all the exercises, and the recipes are simple – not gordon Ramsay level! How do you stay fit? I’ve been doing all my exercises with my personal trainer Sam Witter since I came out of Love Island. It’s 15-20 minutes of really intense exercise. There’s a lot of bodyweight stuff and we mainly focus on lower-body exercises. We do a little bit of upper body, too. What’s your favourite exercise? Probably lunges, because I notice a difference when I do them. They’re really good for your bum and your legs. How many times a week do you guys work out together? usually three or four. everything we do I can do when I’m away in hotels or wherever I go when I’m mad busy.

How do you stay motivated? I enjoy working out, so it’s not a chore for me. Sam texts me, saying: ‘Are you ready for your session?’ When you’ve got a personal trainer, you’ve got to turn up! Do you and Sam ever train with your boyfriend Scott Thomas? Yeah, we have, but he’s a bit of a slacker – especially last month! He was like: ‘Kady, it’s Christmas!’ How often do you drink alcohol? I don’t actually like the taste of alcohol. If I went for a meal with Scott, I’d much rather have a water or a fizzy drink. Have you ever tried a fad diet? I can honestly say I’ve never been on a diet. My mum is an amazing cook. She’s always made healthy dishes. What’s your guilty food pleasure? I love chocolate brownies! After we’d done seven hours of filming training for the Bikini Plan, Sam let me have a brownie! Are you body confident? Yes, definitely. I was less confident being on Love Island because I wasn’t exercising for six weeks and it was probably the worst I’ve eaten in my life. So when I came out I started training with Sam and my body is the best it has ever been now. What’s your favourite body part? It would be my legs if they were longer! So probably my bum. What is your least favourite? Probably my arms. Whose body do you admire? Kylie Jenner’s, because I love her bum, but then I love Kendall, too, because she’s got really long legs. How do you deal with negative comments on social media? You’re never going to be loved by everyone, but I just ignore it. I focus more on the positive comments. Have you made any New Year fitness resolutions? I’m going to do a 10k run for a charity called Brain Tumour Research. OK! i’m glued to ‘cbb’ I’m loving watching my friend Nicola McLean [right] in Celebrity Big Brother – she was great on the last series and hopefully the producers will show more of her lovely side this time. Speidi are so boring and just a bit weird, they’re only in there for ratings. I can’t believe Jamie O’Hara has gone in – he’s the first active footballer to ever go into the house. I don’t see why celebs put themselves at that sort of risk. It’s absolutely ridiculous. It should’ve been stopped last year when Beth Tweddle [left] broke her back. Athletes train for years to compete like that – it’s not just something you can go into and train for a few weeks.
We went to our friend’s house for New Year’s Eve [top left], for Thai food and champagne – we were playing Cards Against Humanity, which is so funny. We stayed until 12.30am and we brought Taylor and Sofia home with us, and Megs carried on partying until after 1am! The kids painted my tummy with lipstick and glitter for New Year’s Eve [below] and the glitter drove me insane and stuck to my skin. I’ve got my hospital bag packed full of babygros, nappies, aromatherapy oils, hair bobbles, lip salve, chewing gum and a supersoft organic cotton blanket by Nature’s Purest [above]. t’s been a crazy couple of weeks – it was great having Jamie home while he was suspended, but he hates being on the sidelines, so he’s hoping to be back on the pitch soon. We took the kids to see my friend Sam Bailey in panto on December 29 and they had one of Jamie’s masks on stage and made reference to him getting suspended. The audience thought it was hilarious – luckily he wasn’t there! On New Year’s Eve, we went to watch the Leicester versus West Ham game and were joined in our box by Team GB hockey player Susannah Townsend [left, centre] – it was the same day she found out she was getting her MBE, so we had a few drinks to celebrate with her and her girlfriend Dirkie. We’ve got to know her because we share the same manager. She gave Megan one of her hockey sticks because she loves hockey, and all the kids got to try on her Olympic gold medal – they were so excited!

What’s been your favourite holiday yet? I’ve had some amazing holidays – I love to explore and see new places. Last year I went to Santorini for the first time – I’ve never been to Greece before and the island is known for its sunsets, which are so stunning. I had the chance to see one from the ruins of Oia Castle and I enjoyed the amazing Greek food. I stayed in a villa which had amazing views over the caldera, too. What are your holiday wardrobe essentials? I love heading to the sunshine, so at this time of year I’ll try and find some winter sun. I’ll take a koku beach bag, I love the bold colours and the fact they’re waterproof, a Marysia swimsuit – the scalloped edges and cut of the swimwear is excellent – and flat sandals that can take you from day to night. I love Tori from my new

the take that singer is back for good and shining again…
ot many boy band members can boast six Ivor Novello Awards for songwriting and an OBE, but Take That frontman and Let It Shine judge Gary Barlow isn’t just any boy band veteran. Devoting as much of his career to fundraising for charity as to songwriting, the Cheshire-born 45 year old has both fallen from the dizzy heights of pop world domination and climbed right back to the top again. Born at the beginning of the ’70s in Cheshire, Gary Barlow was an early bloomer. Everyone appreciated the youngster’s singing voice and ability to move, with the star admitting: ‘I was one of those kids that’s forever dancing in front of the TV looking at my reflection.’ Young Gary even bought a keyboard specifically to learn Depeche Mode’s single Just Can’t Get Enough. By the age of 15, he was travelling to London to record a Christmas song he’d penned himself, coming second in a songwriting competition run by the BBC. Buoyed by his success,
Above: Gary has come a long way, from boy band singer to OBE (below left)

he launched a professional singing career, playing local clubs for the princely sum of £18 a night. He remembers: ‘I’m the last generation that started off singing in social clubs. My parents would drive me there and people would scowl at this young lad with blond spiky hair about to come on stage. But I loved winning them around – I would make the people go from scowls to standing up clapping. That was my apprenticeship.’ As soon as Gary left school, he found himself an agent and began recording under the stage name Kurtis Rush. Although nothing much came of Kurtis’s career, a chance meeting with casting director Nigel Martin-Smith was the beginning of Gary’s. The idea was to build a boy band around the fledgling pop star and his songwriting abilities. Jason Orange, Howard Donald, Mark Owen and Robbie Williams were auditioned and the group were named Take That. With Gary at the helm, they released their debut album Take That & Party in 1992.

1995 The band release their third studio album Nobody Else. Robbie is asked to leave the band following a period of missed rehearsals. 1996 The band release their eighth number one – How Deep Is Your Love – without Robbie. his own admission, he sank into a fug of depression and cannabis smoke, revealing: ‘i was living in cheshire at the time, going to london and back on the train. i used to heavily disguise myself, with a hat and everything. i was overweight, i wasn’t feeling great. i was embarrassed to be me, to have people recognise me.’ but in 2006, he started to write for the old band again and the boys reformed, minus robbie, for a sell-out tour. a nervous gary went out with his friends on the night the tour was announced. he remembers: ‘i’m not a big drinker, so it’s rare i start feeling tipsy. but this night i went for it. i woke up the following morning and i had

Film ‘la la land’ (12A)
‘i see you ’ the xx
London trio Romy Madley Croft, Oliver Sim and Jamie Smith are back with The XX’s first album in five years. I See You is the boldest and most ambitious of their albums to date, showing their upbeat side and marking a new era for the band. Romy – who recently announced her engagement to girlfriend Hannah Marshall – yet again offers her unique, ethereal tone to numbers such as Test Me and the ghostly Brave For You. OK!’s favourite tracks have to be I Dare You, Dangerous and new single Say Something Loving. If you’re a big fan, you can catch them playing at Brixton’s O2 Academy in March. KH ★★★★ ouT ThIs frIday
nique, uplifting and utterly romantic, La La Land is a gem of a film that will speak to the dreamer inside us all. Director Damien Chazelle gave himself a tough act to follow with the Oscarnominated Whiplash, but he’s risen to the challenge with this original musical. La La Land has a delicate, tender sensibility, conjuring a Hollywood dream lit in Technicolor pastels. It’s one-part whimsical homage to 1950s classics like Singin’ In The Rain and An American In Paris, one-part showbiz satire, and one-part poignant love story. Both aspiring actress Mia (Emma Stone, who may just take home an Oscar this year) and jazz pianist Sebastian (Ryan Gosling) are struggling to be creative while working unfulfilling jobs. Neither of them can seem to catch a break – and both are facing the fact that their dreams may stay just that. Then Seb gets an amazing opportunity and suddenly everything changes. Will their love survive? AR ★★★★★ ouT ThIs Thursday

‘live by night’ (15)
ased on Dennis Lehane’s crime novel of the same name, Live By Night is the latest outing for Ben Affleck as a director, as his friend Leonardo DiCaprio steps into the shoes of producer. While Ben’s 2012 flick Argo scooped up a number of awards at the Oscars, Live By Night is less focused – but it still makes for a good gangster thriller. Ben stars as Joe Caughlin, the youngest son of a Boston police captain who returns home after serving in World War One. He’s soon caught up in a tangled web of crime, lies and dangerous characters, eventually becoming a rum-runner and one of the most of the notorious gangsters of the Prohibition era. Set in the 1920s and 1930s, it’s visually stunning and has an all-star cast to match. Zoe Saldana shines as Joe’s wife Graciella, as does Elle Fanning as Loretta. KH ★★★ ouT ThIs frIday

Although our sun sign describes our character, we express ourselves through our moon sign. Kevin is a Capricorn but his moon is in Sagittarius – as a Capricorn, Costner could never portray anything other than a character with the highest ideals. But it is his moon placement that directs his acting. The role of master bowman Robin Hood, for example, was a perfect fit since Sagittarius is the sign of the Archer. It is also the sign of the sportsman, a role he portrayed so well in Bull Durham.
