Who hasn’t heard of the basic tips on how to protect your identity? Shield your PIN from on-lookers when using the key pad, keep your Social Security card at home, etc. Those are great things to remember. Well, there is an emerging and powerful tool that can be used in many great ways, but also can be a new way for identity thieves to gather information against you…social networking. If you show your face on and social networking site or you become Linked In-to your business and other social contacts, be careful. Pages that you create, though deleted later, can be eternally archived in the electronic world. As always, do not post information that can be gathered to be used to take your identity. Use the same caution with your confidential information and do not let your guard down just because it is a “social” setting. Thieves prey on people who have their guard down. For more tips to protect your identity, visit and see our News and Event section for valuable links to resources to keep your information safe.
